Unsure Of When To Come Out

So, I'm MtF and I've just recently began to even start my journey, so I'm wondering if I should just come out now? I've come out to my best friend, who certainly accepts me, but should I just wait till I'm further along in transitioning to tell my family? I mean I haven't even yet seen a gender therapist (first item on my list) and probably a good year or more from starting HRT. So wait or just tell my family now?

Hi Berenice :)

That really is up to you when to come out. IMO I would at least wait until you've had time to a GT. You are the one who knows your family best. Just make sure you are prepared for the worst and hope for the best.

Ask your therapist. And work with therapist about how to do it. There is no need to rush. Results typically are better when one has held off, discussed in therapy and worked on how to do it rather than rush and do it.

Don't have a therapist yet? Perhaps a good idea to get one first.

Personally, I'm waiting until I get tired of people giving me weird looks. I'm gonna let the hormones do as much for me as they can. Maybe 6-8 months from now, give or take a few. I already went through the GT thing and now I'm back on hormones (long story and not saying it here). But the 'mones are working fairly quickly for me (did them before) so I might have to come out sooner than I want. I'm buying clothes for work now just in case.
