Has anyone tried the "Finding your female voice" program by Deep Stealth? I saw a sample clip and I honestly had to do some research to find out that Andrea James was even a transwoman, her voice is just fantastic. She says there was no surgery involved....so, I'm very interested. Hoping someone might have some experience with it and insight perhaps?

I have the dvd. It's very good, however if you follow her instructions you will spend at least an hour every day doing tedious voice exercises. I have no doubt it would work if you are willing to put in the time. The key is to develop the muscles that bring out the female voice.

I haven't used the dvd recently because I took voice training lessons last fall at the local state University, and use the exercises they gave me.

I've been referred for voice training, but I thought it might be good to get a head start, since I don't know when I'll hear back about that.

a passable voice can be achieved without surgery, but with or without andrea james' dvd the quality of your voice will only be as good as it's going to be. Last I checked her dvd was extremely over priced. I was fortunate that I was able to learn how to develop a female voice in every aspect of my life, laughing, sneezing, coughing, talking, and singing, without paying such a handsome price to learn it.

Jenny is correct. It's all in the vocal muscles. Once you've found your female voice you have to practice developing the muscles to control it and speak with it. I used to read books aloud to myself. College texts, you might be interested in cook books, but I would go and read aloud to myself and practice my voice and alter it as needed to sound more naturally feminine and work on the muscles, keeping my voice from breaking and being able to read longer without getting tired. You also have to be careful of not overworking your voice.

You may also be able to find videos on youtube to give you some ideas and beginner help as well. I know someone here has mentioned them before.

Good luck with the voice work and hopefully you'll be able to start the classes sooner rather than later.

No question a good voice can be achieved without surgery.

Isn't the surgery dangerous or something like that?

I have run into a trans woman at our local support meetings over the course of the past 6 months who has had multiple voice surgeries from a Dr in the Portland area. She had really suffered through this process, she had infections, and her voice was always "raspy", when I heard it and spoke with her. I realize her situation is unique, but really made me think twice about attempting such surgeries. Certainly risks there. I bought the deep stealth DVD and like it.

I'm in college! What class would that be under?

It's not really a college class. It's in the speech and hearing building at the University of Arizona and specifically created for trans women. We signed up at our monthly trans women support group.

Do you think you could help me find one for Southern Cali? If possible in LA? ;D <3

You don't have a linguistics department, do you? They may well be able to help you :) I'm a linguistics graduate and I think the things I learned made it easier to make my voice more female... But you may well have to be patient, especially if your voice is really low (mine was 4 years ago - about 90-100Hz! It took me 3 years to get the pitch up to 180-190Hz, and for it to sound natural...) It's definitely possible to get a female voice without surgery, though, IMO!

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.

I am so glad you enjoy them as well. The help things “stay put” so well. It got me through some of my most dysphoric times.   Wow, I hadn’t heard this at last week’s Zoom meeting if you had mentioned it. That is a huge milestone April Marie.I have no doubt that this confidence will only grow in time. The freedom of being yourself, especially in public, is a wonderful feeling. I am truly happy for you.😘   *Big Congratulatory Hug* Susan R🌷

@Abigail Genevieve, that is not an appropriate question, IMO.  This isn't the Army/McCarthy hearings.   Carolyn Marie

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

She was a beautiful young woman ...   "What we do know is that the offender was a very violent individual and should not have been on our streets.”  Whether gender related or not, the mental health and incarceration issues in our country are incredibly bad and need to be addressed.

April,   I'm glad my entries are interesting to you.  TransCentralPA is a great organization with so many caring people.  I would strongly recommend you find a way to attend the Keystone Conference.  I guarantee you'll find it an amazing experience.     Hugs,   Sally

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?

I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?

Congrats to your family on the new addition!
