At The Gym.........

Shilo's post this morning inspired me to post this......

We've been going to the gym here....

I left my 5 acres behind in Ohio and working that kept me fit and trim....

Now, I live here in New Orleans in an apartment and eat too much southern cooking....

So, we've started going to the gym (4-6 nights a week)....and the best part is that we have a complete one here in the apartment complex about 100 feet from our front door.....

It's upstairs and you have to use a key in the elevator, so, it's safe....

A few weeks back when I started, I could only do 3 sit ups.....

Now I can do 35..... (I used to be able to do a lot more than that in the Air Force, but, that was 45 years ago!....lol)

Also walk on the tread mills and other cool machines....

We've also changed our diets....now when Lizzy cooks, she only starts with two sticks of butter!

At first I actually gained a couple of pounds and I was seriously bummed over it...But, it was explained to me that as muscle which is heavier) replaces fat (which is lighter) it's not uncommon to gain a few before going back down....Muscle actually burns the fat....cool!

And, no.......I'm not bulking up......just working cardio and the right places.....

Yeah, YOU try to live in New Orleans and not gain any weight!

We've got a gym and a swimming pool in our building as well, but I'm too self conscious to work out in public, particularly since I won't wear shorts and my only track pants have pink pin stripes

So we've got a Sweatin to the Oldies DVD to start with, once my doctor says I'm good to start, and a Tae Bo DVD when we're ready to kick it up a notch.

Sure, I could do that back in the Air Force...as a guy......44 years ago.....and way more than 41...

But now I do it as a 62 year old woman!
