Ever walk into a room and wonder 'what just happened here'...

Sometimes, after being a way for a while, I'll come back to Laura's and I'll believe I am sensing something has happened in my absence, something that has changed the mood, or the 'tone', or something, though I cannot put my finger on it...

Sometimes a thread will have disappeared, or a regular poster (or two) will have departed, or just, I dunno, people seem to be 'different' somehow...

I don't know where I am going with this, I guess I just wanted to say that nothing happens in a vacuum, everything ultimately affects everthing else...

Feeling something, not sure what, why or for how long...

Just a lil' something I noticed...

You are probably not too far off in your awareness. As with any place that is alive with a worldwide plethora of ideas and viewpoints, dynamics can change over time, especially if the last time one was on, those dynamics were already in process to change.

I think too that perhaps the more we interact with each other, the more we ALL learn something from each other. And I think sometimes that new-found knowledge can affect how we look at things and how we respond to things.

Very interesting observation, Svenna. :)

I know the feeling very well. There'll be a shift in the, "Site dynamic" that's hard to pinpoint. True, the absence of a regular active poster, someone who for some reason has a gift for adding topics that are fresh, interesting and sort of apply to everyone, can make the room feel, "empty". By the same token, a new member who becomes active can cause a shift and oddly enough, the room also feels empty. Or not quite the same.

In time, things may sort themselves out and other times, the "old" feeling never returns.

One musical site I was on was taken down by one member who was disruptive without violating any site rules. People dropped off and it faded away. Two entertainment sites shut down because the members were all using FB and a specific site was too much effort to stay active and do FB.

If you do come to a conclusion about the what and why, I'd be interested to know.

Reading your posts shows me someone who has a genuine concern for others and you seem to make an effort to reach out to any and everyone who needs a bit of advice or just a boost in spirit.

I think you'd be a good judge of a change in the tone of the site and honest enough, concerned about the welfare of the site overall, that you'd not be afraid to let someone know.

In the past I have likened Laura's to a kaleidoscope. Because of the nature of the site and the lives we live, the journeys we are on, people come and go.

There will always be those who work against a site and others who do harm blindly but we are lucky that we have people overseeing the site who protect it and us. They have made Laura;s what it is. A safe haven. And often a literal lifeline.

And while the picture changes as people come and go the way a kaleidoscope does when rotated there is a new picture that is equally beautiful that takes it's place. Sometimes it may briefly be a pattern we don't care for as much but eventually the dynamic changes and becomes as beautiful as before. Each day is actually unique here .

I think because it is such an important intense time many of us cherish and prefer the picture as it was when we came. Though for each of us it is a different one.

But Laura's is still here and still beautiful and it will be tomorrow too although tomorrow the picture will be shifting yet again.

Johnny: I love that analogy!

Svenna: Its funny that you mentioned it because I noticed it too but was not able to put my finger on it. I know I have recently been exploring some of the other forums here which opens a plethora of new avenues to explore. Alas, there is only so much time I have to spend but I try to make it here everyday at least once or twice.

This place is truly amazing

Always a pleasure to get your take on things, Johnny...

I am a big believer in the potential for renewal that good will engenders, and without a site like this, a site that thrives on good will, many would still be lost and/or suffering needlessly. The urgency of these situations does not escape my notice, and it tears at my heart...

Change is inevitable, change for the better? Optional..

Still not sure where I was going with this, hmmm....

Svenna,

I just, "Calls 'em as I sees 'em." There is something special about the members here and regardless of how a person may identify or is on the path to identity or spinning in little circles like myself, we have a bond that transcends other connections. Perhaps a member had a good solid home life but always knew, "The Truth" or had a poor home life and had a glimpse of a truth, we are unique. Not different, merely unique.

I find I more apt to open up here and I find it easier to express my love here, as if for years I felt "Love" was bottled up inside and I can let it out here without fear of being laughed at or mocked. I think as someone who is a female inside, I can apply "Love" across the board, in either sense of the word, at Laura's and to me, that releases a feeling of lightness and happiness I can't find elsewhere. I agree with Zoe that when someone explores new forums, there is a different view into that dynamic that makes up Laura's. And It's difficult to define. Puzzling, but intriguing.

Johnny's kaleidoscope analogy is just great, shifting and sometimes the display is breathtakingly beautiful, other times, just slightly different but noticeable. That's when I feel that something about the tone, feeling kicks in. Maybe not bad, but just different.

Regardless, Laura's has more than it's share of folks who are, in the words of a character from Doyle's, The Abbey Grange,".....people who are, Large Souled."

Off to the groomer with one of my dogs and back for more coffee and start my day.

Best of today to you all,

Much love,

Sara Lee

This is a really cool thread because it is pretty much about the way life is. Everything concerning life is in a constant state of change and by some weird, I don't know what you would call it things seem to find a way back to the beginning, if that makes any sense. I believe to some degree we all recognize the ever changing cycles of life but I think the important thing is how we embrace these changes. I believe that how we embrace change has an effect on the out come or where a certain change ends up. Like a negative change will remain in the negative if no one embraces the negative to turn it into a positive. Do I make any sense here? Or did I slip over the edge, I see what's in my head but not sure I'm displaying it in the right words. Any way have a wonderful day.

You make PERFECT sense! That is the beauty on here at Laura's - we understand each other pretty well.

There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar. The average person's left hand does 56% of the typing (when using the proper position of the hands on the keyboard; Hunting and pecking doesn't count!). A shark is the only known fish that can blink with both eyes.

Good morning   well its big bike week this week American/Canadian made. Followed almost immediately with metric bike week.  And let’s not forget the Myrtle Beach Classic golf tournament last week.  Our business has been very busy. So much so I need to leave earlier to make certain I get my work done before I have too many people in the tpstore and can’t get it done.   Hi ho silver and away   Willow

I guess this was commonplace in females. But if your prostate gland is still in place this can contribute to urinal difficulties too.

https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/05/15/peru-chooses-bigotry-medical-services     The Health Ministry tried to put the best face on this unscientific gibberish of a decree, but it won't diminish the harm it will do to the Pervian trans community.  They undoubtedly already suffer from severe discrimination and bigotry in a very macho-opriented society.   Carolyn Marie

I'd never heard of it until reading this.  From the thread title I thought it had something to do with the state of Idaho.  But perhaps combined with something about Hobbits, which seemed odd.  My brain goes in weird directions.
    • VickySGV
I had my surgery 11 years ago, and yes, I too find it much more of an urgent thing than it ever was before.  One possible culprit is going to be T blockers if you are still on them, also the urethral sphincter which holds the pee back is closer to the urethral opening now and more subject to stimulation. When we gotta go we gotta goooooo!!
    • VickySGV
I notice that the Wikipedia article does not mention the U.S.A. which I can understand a bit.  The entire month of June here is Pride Month for all the organizations and is tied to the 1969 Stonewall Inn riots in New York and also our medical authorities are also not tied as thoroughly to the WHO as they are to the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations which write the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health which is generally in line with the WHO which does not play as big a part in our medical practices here.  The WHO does not impact us the way it does the other world countries which is why we are in the dark about the day.  Ironically though, one of the U.S. States is named Idaho which sadly is one of the most conservative and frustrating to the U.S. LGBTQ Community.   The day is international though in the sense of other European and Southern Hemisphere countries it seems.
    • Mirrabooka
Hmm. Must have been that pesky 'International' word which made me assume that it was well known! I only became aware of it myself last year.   Brief history: May 17th is the day IDAHOBIT is acknowledged as it is the anniversary of when in 1990 the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. It was conceived in 2004 and first celebrated in 2005. It has gone on to include trans folk in 2009 and bi folk in 2015.   International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - Wikipedia

A year and a half post op. I've noticed that once the urge to pee hits, I can only hold it for about 15 minutes or so until it gets to the point where I feel like I'm going to piss myself. I used to be able to hold it a lot longer (as I  remember it).  I know my urethra is a bit shorter now, but I don't think it is enough to account for this. Am I imagining it?

It's also networking.  Sometimes jobs come along because someone knows someone else - these older people might know someone.  "Hey, Ashley," someone might say,"My nephew is looking for love. He likes tall women. Whatcha think? Can he call you?"   Don't discount their ability to match make.  It is about networking.
