Gender Bullies

I just realized that one of my friends is a 'gender bully' in a sense. He was telling me today that when he was informing another friend whom had met me only one or twice before, that I now go by male pronouns and such... then my friend more or less threatened to kick the others donkey if he had problems with it...

I guess it's supportive bullying... but still bullying. (It was amusing to watch the guy flinch later one though when he learned that not only am I transitioning, but that I'm 'gay')

I would agree. When the threat of violence is there, even as a joke, it's bullying.

Of course I'm a child of the '60s. People were running around trying to make love not war, so my tolerance for violence in any of its forms is probably a bit less than most people's.

I'm at least happy I didn't learn about it for weeks after. I would have been upset all night... I guess though, that by the end of the night the judgmental friend had learned a it on things and is more genuinely accepting of those who don't fit into the binary, not to say he's fully accepting but such things take time and I'm happy that I was able to be part of his view shifting.

Luna; No, I have not. If I do, YouTube will swipe it up and then clue in my evilish brother.

And Micha ; It's chaos to them.

-nod- Thankfully I live in Seattle, so I rarely run into issues to start. My bully friend though is kind of pushing me to learn self defense fighting things though... I usually skirt about the subject(even though it wouldn't hurt) Just because he gets all macho binary on me. He's pulled the line "now that you're goin to be a man, there are things you need to know... number one, can you weatherize a house for winter." (yes I can btw) I usually just stare at him, then laugh... He means well but I don't feel the need to fall into the binary XD

"now that you're goin to be a man, there are things you need to know... number one, can you weatherize a house for winter."

Hmm. Wonder why men need to know how to weatherize, but women don't?

Maybe we're so emotionally locked down that a chill surrounds us?

People behave as if there's a rulebook somewhere that says all the things that men need to be able to do. I wonder who wrote it and where they get off deciding. I've actually fantasized meeting him/her and telling him/her off.

Well my friends defense is "I'm from the south" and feels men should be able to fully build a home from the ground up... I think even without the gender issues he'd force me to learn how to weatherize a house though.... if I had my own....

I love to wrestle, but tickling is still my only real defense. Yep, that's why my nose goes in three directions.

Wrestling. Ugh.

The mere mention of that word gives me PTSD. We had to do wrestling in gym. Of course not being your typical male, my 3D understanding was substandard. I always got whupped, no matter who I wrestled, even if they were much smaller. If I was lucky, the guy wouldn't do something to hurt me and wouldn't taunt me while it was happening.

I wasn't lucky very often.

That unit in gym probably only lasted a month or two but I still shudder thinking of it, more than 30 years later.

hehe, yeah we usually spend 10-15 minutes on actual moves then spend the rest of the time putting me into compression holds while he tries to find one I actually suffer through... still yet to find one.(I'm pliable XD)

Please consider joining us, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what the meetings are like. I've learned so much, had so much fun and gained confidence in myself just by being a part of this amazing group of people. It's a low key, no pressure, non-judgmental chance to just be among people who are supportive, understanding and affirming of each other.    I'm travelling out of state and still planning on dropping in for awhile.    Come see what it's like!!

Thank you, Susan!! It was such an amazing experience for me. I can't remember if I even talked about it on a Zoom meeting.   Here is the link to the post I made about it. And, again, thank you for helping to give me the courage to do it.

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.

They’re not going to stop anytime soon either. Tighten your belts folks were in for a long ride.

I am so glad you enjoy them as well. The help things “stay put” so well. It got me through some of my most dysphoric times.   Wow, I hadn’t heard this at last week’s Zoom meeting if you had mentioned it. That is a huge milestone April Marie.I have no doubt that this confidence will only grow in time. The freedom of being yourself, especially in public, is a wonderful feeling. I am truly happy for you.😘   *Big Congratulatory Hug* Susan R🌷
