Why Do They Not Like Us?

I was going to post something but edited it down to that there are far to many categories in the alternative sexual universe .

The gay community might see us as diluting their cause.

Gulp.

I always saw it the selfish way...they're diverting & distorting our cause

Don't know if I really get what you're trying to say though. Maybe you edited down a bit much

After careful consideration and reflective thought. This post has been overanalyzed, rationalized, scrutinized and caused brain freeze.

The gay and lesbial community is as varied and different as the straight and yes the transgendered community. Each G/L person can not be categorized, classified, and filed as hostile, anti this, or anti that.

Some are religous, some alcoholics, some cheat on their partners, some are sluts and some are completly monogamous.

There are racists, antisemmites, others in the forefront of civil rights for all,yes insluding transgendered rights.

Some are macho and look for fights and others are great peacemankers...................................Let It Go..................Mia.

Mia I agree with you and I think it all comes down to the fact that we as humans (whether we are straight, gay, bi, trans, male, female, andro, old, young, black, white, red, yellow, brown or even purple polka-dotted  - hope I didn't leave any group out but I probably did and if so you are included too) tend be uncomfortable (some alittle & some alot) with what is different and "outside of" our own box. Some of us are more willing to try and step out of the box and some aren't. Humans don't like change very much (check history - ain't a pretty sight in that regards). All of this is just my own personal opinion for what it is worth. There are good and bad in all groups, tolerant and intolerant in all of them too (even among the trans I would bet). I try to say and live by the Serenity Prayer each day.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change (everything outside of me),

The courage to change the things I can (myself and only myself),

And the wisdom to know the difference.

The Gay Lesbian movement represents gay lesbian rights , not transgendered rights . Straight society lumps us all in together and that upsets the right of center in the GLB community . Most of straight society would not be able to tell you the difference between transgendered , transvestite , crossdresser . It they did they certainly would not correct somebody at Starbucks who called a transexual a crossdresser .

For the most part ours is the last frontier in acceptance .

My only role would be as a good representation of my type and make an effort to accept other types and be a nice person.

Thanks Denise you reminded me that I hadn't said the serenity prayer yet today.

Great Aunt Lizzy

Liz I thought you knew me better'n that :( . Never personal. Opinionated maybe. But never personal.

Your great nephew six times removed on his mother's side :D

Evan

I have my own issues with the GLB community...excluding those who are trans. And here's why -one word: jealousy.

now thats an interesting take on things.......

Though, I don't know if the pride marches are giving them more stigma. I mean, maybe that's why they're getting the "my best friend is gay" etc. because due to the marches etc they've had enough visibiltity and therefore become normalized?

I actually think I know what you mean.....however, in the interest of avoiding Mia's brain freeze, I think she's right....who really cares why they hate us. Let em.

hmm, maybe i used the wrong word. I think it's better to say they make themselves "stick out" more than to say they stigmatize themselves. It makes them not "common". Rainbows are a lot brighter and easier to spot than plain, earthy colors

But what if I want to blend in? It bothers me that because we are a part of that, they are making us stick out in society, and what I want more than anything (with the exception of fully functional male parts :P) is to be your average person. The way I view most people - "average people", but each one has something that distinguishes them as an individual. One has great musical talent, one has a great sense of humour, etc. So i just want to be that average person. I'd have my own personality and everything but I wouldn't seem "unusual" in any negative way.

PS, if anyone here watches South Park, the "Conjoined Fetus Lady" is my hero. Because she seems to feel about her condition the same way I do about mine (if you want to call what we have a "condition"). She seems to be a bit better at expressing herself than I do though. :P....So maybe just screw the second half of this post and listen to the conjoined fetus lady's speech instead

Well, GLB is a sexual preference, but T is a gender identity.

They are not the same thing and shouldn't really be in the

same box. I remember when the T was added, I said it

didn't make sense but people said, hey, we'll have more

political power if we merge. So what did we get ? 12 years

later our gender group is still crammed in the same unheated

and un-air-conditioned room with cheap hard chairs... while

the GLB part of the organization receives over $1 million per

year and has cushy couches and air conditioning. They haven't

spent 2 cents on us in over 12 years but they spent 12 million

bucks on themselves.

That's why I dropped out of the local GLBT group.

To be honest with you, I couldnt give a rats bum weather the GLB "communities" like me or not. I neither live in their community or any other. I live fulltime 24/7. Im in the world 24 hours a day everyday. I am only keen on weather I like me and ya know what??? I Do. I am a proud T woman living in the real world, not worrying if some minority groups like me or dislike me and Im certaintly not a 3rd class citizen in the world or amongst my many friends, both male and females friends. To those who know me, Im another woman that they know with a great heart and whom is a good friend. I do not crave for what I already have.. I have happiness and the love of my friends and I have a life in the reality of the world.

I have to admit that I never understood being in with the GLB either, but I am more in line with Amanda's take on it all!

You go girl!

I just want to be a human being first a woman second and if anyone needs to know a trans woman third, but the most important is the first!

Let's go for human rights and no group need be left out!

Love ya,

:o What a thread! It goes on and on, but it winds all around.

Mia - dear, whatta think, are we both opinionated or what! and from a comment in private - IQ? Darn, you fishin for compliments?

April - we ARE related dear - think on it. Family here at Laura's

Evan - sorry - I just saw some conflict, you are a sweety - everyone knows that but you - "methinks you protesteh too much" (Francis Bacon) - and you my cousin at the least, but a brother in spirit, I swear.

Why am I doing this - listing personal comments - augggggg that's what PM is for. Yikes.

But things stand OUT in this topic:

[the relationship between women and the concept of "personal' ] beautifully said

[ I couldnt give a rats bum] succintly said

[For the most part ours is the last frontier in acceptance] wow - well said

[even purple polka-dotted] colorfully said -grin - hey, some of my best friends are purple polka-dotted

:P To the tread Lizzy to the thread.

Hey I was invited to the monthly local GLBT group meeting tomorrow - by them! I had written an email asking when they meet. I told my therapist and she said there may be several FTM there but I will be the only MTF. I am presenting male as I don't pass yet - well as male as I can now. I wanna see what it is like there - after all the nasty stuff we have been saying.

We have a GGA meeting Sat and I am going to it. (Gulf Gender Alliance) Thats people like us.

Ya wanna report on all that?

Well - ole opinionated Liz probably give you one... ha!

Hey my first time at either meeting. I complained to my therapist I have been talking to so many transgender people, but have never met one in person (not even my good friend who is post op - she lives in another state). I asked if it was all a dream and I was the only one in the world - sound familiar? She laughed - definately more out there than you know, she said.

Wait Evan opinionated and doing wordy tirades, no never not Evan :P ROFL (you know I love you right Evan  ). Hon you could never, never be just guy #4,978,700 doing anything. I think we all know what you mean about being an average person (I at least do) but we are who we are and all we can do is live with that and try to make tomorrow better for all of us. Remember to "leave the world a better place than how we found it".

Thought about this for awile. Remembered the Federalist Papers from undergraduate American History 101, god that was amillion years ago.

Anyway Madison had warned about factions and infighting among special interest groups and how that would destroy the structure, and the purpose and goals of that group. So learn from history or be doomed to repeat it. Put away the differences and unite as one community.........................Mia.

I'm thinking the GL community doesn't like us because many of us can just get GRS and get married like any regular straight person. Why fight for gay marriage when it doesn't apply to us?

speaking of not liking us, I've been meaning to write to Sirius/XM radio and let them know there's no T in their GLBT radio station! I don't think there's any B either. but that's beside the point.

From what i see the reason the GBL community dont like us is because they dont understand us. As well as the fact that the feminist movement sees us as a threat because for some reason they see us as invalidating there ideals. That being said, I have had no bad experiances in the GBLT community. Personally the gay guys i have meet have be completely sweet and adorable, and the lesbians have thought that it was great..... ( could be because im often mistaken for a lesbian.... which im not..... instead of being found out to be MTF) Over all i think its the person and not the group. Some people just have hate in there hearts and have to take it out on someone. Others are weak minded and follow whatever group they can. Either way to me its the person and not the group.

I finally located the local GLBT here and went to what I thought was a regular meeting but is was actually only for the T part. Saturday I went to a GGA meeting which was mainly TS and CD.

I was shocked at the bravery and understanding I found. There were lesbian people at one meeting, and they had the same horror stories we hear from our TS community, many of the same problems. I know this was not a true representation, I mean two meeting? But I suppose my point is for everyone to start attending some of these things, listen, learn and then start asking questions and giving opinions.

I am guilty of believing what people tell me about GLBT. I wanna see and make decisions on my own. And I will concede we have a powerful TS advocate here where I live, and she is really militant about our representation as transsexuals, so what I see might be slanted because of that. But is it fair to judge without first seeing what's really going on?

I think it is part of our responsibily to educate society as well as complain about society. I suppose it may be that our nature as TS tends to make us want to have acceptance and blend in. We don't tend to 'rock the boat' that's all... but is that right?

And the point about us being able to marry in most jurisdictions? I never thought about that and what it would mean to the GLB people. I will eventually be able to change my birth certificate from M to F after SRS. The homosexual community can't do that.

Complicated!

WEll stated Liz. We can't end up in victimhood. WE need to advocate for ourselves and also be an active part of the LGBT community and theri political action committe. Well stated. Mia.

I've been transitioning now for eight months but have been wearing women's clothing for 2+ years. I am over weight and approaching my 72nd birthday. I have purchase my solid color clothing online and recently graduated to 'V' neck tops. I have been hesitant to get anything more girly due to family issues, though with my hair style I am able to totally pass when dressed in a skirt and blouse.   About two  months ago I finally went and got my nails done (which I truly which I had done long ago) though not red nor pink (again family issues). To date I don't think I am having problems with being trans unlike others seem to have. The biggest problem I am having is with my clothing. Any suggestions my girl friends might have would be greatly appreciated.   Cindy

Umm.... if a post is ignored, live with it?   My stuff gets ignored sometimes, and its OK.  My life is different, and may seem kind of wacky to others.  Some folks just can't relate, or if I'm needing advice they just don't have it.  Diversity is like that sometimes.  If your post gets missed, don't take it personally.  Also, stuff that is new on weekends seems to get ignored more, since most folks are busy with family or other stuff during that time.  Overall, I think people here are pretty helpful.

I'd really love a professional stove.  There's actually one I want at Lowes, but its like $6k.  I've got plenty of money, the issue is that I'm not the queen (king?) of my den.  Or even of the kitchen.  My partner (husband's wife #1) owns that territory, and she's very attached to what she's got.  One of our stoves has 6 burners and a large oven, the other has 4 burners and a regular household sized oven.  And of course, there's always the wood-burning equipment.    Today was interesting.  We had the first campaign fundraiser for our sheriff and my sister.  My sister is running to be constable of our township.  Pretty sure she'll win, as her opponent is an old dude who is mostly running on "Don't elect a woman for a man's job"    What's weird is our sheriff is running as a Democrat, but he's conservative.  And his Republican opponent sounds like a leftist.  Welcome to Upside-down-ville   And of course all the kids got the chance to sit in a sheriff's car, and play with the lights.   We had a barbecue lunch and a dessert auction.  I baked three apple pies for it, and I was shocked that they sold for $20 each, since my cooking isn't that great.  My partner made her famous "Chocotorta."  It's like a chocolate layer cake with cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, and it tastes amazing.  Usually we have it for Christmas and other really special occasions.  Two guys got into a bid war, and it sold for $175!!!    Yep, this is politics in the South.  Barbecue, pies, and police cars.  A great way to spend a Saturday

It seems plain to me, that this thing is simply a cherry-picked excuse to persecute trans people - especially trans youth in the UK.  And it will also be used here in the states to legislate against trans care here as well.   The right wing has already made up their mind about us, and they are just looking for "evidence" to legislate against us.     Seems like if they were really for "freedom" as they claim, they would leave us alone to live in our personal "delusions".   I mean, I have no problem with cis people.  Some of my best friends are cis people.

I think this can be a big part of it. There are times when I just don't have the experience or expertise to respond.   Is there a specific post we've missed @Ladypcnj?  I remember that my intro post had less than 10 responses. Some of that has to do with timing, too.    I've also found that the more I posted to various threads the more responses I've received. But, I can tell you that there are times when almost no one responds to my posts. Don't take it personally. Keep posting where you feel comfortable and people will get to know you.   It really is a friendly and accepting place.

Oh, the guilt can be overwhelming, can't it? It's kind of like the joke about the difference between Protestants and Catholics.   Protestants have sex without guilt.   Catholics have guilt without sex.   It seems as if guilt is just a natural by product of our gender identity confusion whether we have any awareness of it or not. We feel different and so we blame ourselves for not feeling as others say we should.   What a tremendously uplifting moment it is when we can finally shed that guilt. Bask in the relief, M.A.   And having the right therapist seems so crucial to me. I had, fortunately, a very quick and strong connection and trust in my therapist. She was a life saver for me. Literally.   Again, welcome to TGP!!

For me, with my former therapist, it was almost more like a frog in a pot slowly coming to a boil - I don't think either of us realized the scope of what we were dealing with until fairly recently. And she helped me find my new practitioner, which was incredibly helpful too <3 It feels very strange and new - I've framed this, whatever this is, as 'being bad at being female' for literal decades, since puberty really, and the idea that maybe it's not my fault, that I've never done anything 'wrong,' is a little overwhelming.

I had fun doing this a few weeks ago.  This is how I got rid of -money:     This music player code of mine is really working out nice.  My music collection is all mp3 files.  I put them on my server and then code things like that to play them and loop them.  And then I coded an app while I was in the mental hospital in 2009 that I use to transcribe my music with.  It's a Windows app and you can browse to an mp3 or use a URL to an mp3.  Once it is in the program, it looks like a normal music software timeline and there are sliders to slow it down and speed it up by octaves, semitones and cents, so you have complete control over what key the music is in.  And you can create loops in it and I added a feature a few years ago where it remembers all the settings so when you open it again, you still have the same loop set with the pitch settings.  I've been putting my favorite recordings in it lately, setting the funkiest loop I can find and then slow it down an octave or more.  Then I play drums to it and piano stuff, or pennywhistle.  I like playing drums on the floor.  Even though I got rid of money and well, I should have done that decades ago, I had a good time the other day hitting my bin of GO stones with my drumstick.   I don't know if I'll get flagged for self promotion here or not.  You know, I'm a musician and I'm just sharing ideas for how to listen to and enjoy learning to play music.  I'm not the only one who has made tools like this.  I'm really geeking out on my roommates drumset.  I learned to play in the 90's, but I haven't had a set since then.  I've been playing 5 gallon plastic water bottles as hand drums for 30 years.  They are relatively inexpensive and common and they sound great.  Very fun to play along to your favorite music.  And if you can slow the music down, it can make it easier to play to for some songs.  As advanced as I get as musician, I still enjoy just meditating on playing some simple pattern over and over.  Lately I've been playing an Emin7 chord going to an Fmaj7 chord on the piano.  It's all white keys.  You just play an E and then skip a key etc...  Every other key for 4 notes and then just move that all up one key for the Fmaj7 chord.  I just like the droning quality of it.
