Came Out To Best Friend

So I have an interesting Coming Out story for you. Just just happened a few hours ago!! Along with a short story and how fate seems to have guided me this way all along... read and see for yourself:

When I was a child, I remember asking my mom a strange question. "If I was a girl, what would you have named me?" She looked at me and said she would have named me, Bambi. Laughing, I thought she was joking. She told me she was serious - she liked the name. My mom was a silly person.. but unfortunately she passed in 2009.

Recently, these past few weeks I have been hanging out with my online friend that goes by the name, Bambi. Her online name always reminded me of that time when I was a child. And my mom. So we kind of bonded. Getting to know my friend better, she told me her b-day was April 11th. So I wanted to remember so I could make her a nice card or something.

This morning, around 3-4am ET I was talking to my real life best friend on Skype. One thing led to another, chatting about life, what he's going through and our future. I told asked him if he remembered back in 2009 when I asked to speak with him about something. He remembered. Although, he had errors trying to chat with me, I pushed it off to a later date. But I never brought it up again. With that in mind, he knew I had a secret I wanted to share.. so he expressed how brave I am, and could be. How that no matter what he's here for me. And I'm his best friend. Unfortunately... I was too scared, and couldn't bring myself to tell him what I had been hiding all my life.

He asked if he should guess.. so I said sure. Dying to tell him everything.. the words just escaped me and I wanted him to ask me so I could get it off my chest. I wasn't even excited to see what he may guess, because there's no way he could possibly know that inside, I'm MTF transgender. I mean, that's not something people just guess... right? I figured at most he would ask if I'm gay - which I would say "No, not exactly." It was all planned out in my head.

So he guessed: He replied with "have you wondered or wanted to be a girl?" I was simply shocked. Wait, what? My heart skipped a beat and I was scare.. yet, surprised he nailed it. Seriously?! Um, now what do I say? Haha. Guess I will go with it... After telling him he was right, and that *is* what I wanted to share, he was completely gave me 110% acceptance. And wants to help me through my journey! He said I deserve happiness, and he wants to be there for me all the way. Still wants to move out together and get an Apt. so I can start my life in a place I can be myself. He said it's not weird at all, and is simply happy for me. (He's an amazing person.. wouldn't you agree?)

Today, April 11th 2013. So much hurt, fears, and guilt was released. Wow! Now he knows! Everything was strange, but so uplifiting. This was litterally a dream I had many times.. in fact I pinched myself to ensure this was real and, I can't believe it.

But isn't it ironic that my mom said she would have named me Bambi if I was born female. Today, April 11th, my friend Bambi's birthday. The same day I came out as myself.... my journey officially begins. Makes me wonder if this was fate... If it was, I must be on the right track.

My life has forever changed. He is the first person I ever came out to (in real life). Best friend for over a decade. We're now closer than ever. Wanted to share now he went to sleep, and I'm off to sleep too. I simply can't believe it.. and I'll keep everybody updated on my journey. This is going to be one crazy journey, I'm sure. So I'll be around on the website over the next days, weeks, months and years to come, to share everything I can as it happens.

That's awesome moon, I know what that is like as it was the same for me. The first person I came out to was my best friend and like you I couldnt find the words and he ended up guessing what I wanted to tell him. When we're that close to someone they have a habit of reading between the lines with our behavior and even the things we like and talk about. I am glad that you have a friend like that, and I'm happy he fully accepts and supports you, that's the kind of friend you want to hold onto for life hon. :)

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing Moon. I hope you have had very sweet dreams and are well rested for you journey. Please keep us in the loop as you move on your path. Even one accepting person can make all the difference. You may find as i did that so many of the dragons i feared all my life had no teeth and were actually no threat at all.

Hugs,

Charlie

That's incredible! Life has these ways of throwing hints, doesn't it? Yours is quite incredible. Far more so than the brand of air bag in my dad's car being "SRS".

You’re welcome, Vidanjali. Now I have to actually start writing!

Society is preserved by passing on proper roles for people, which works for the 90+ percent that it works for.   We were all taught from an early age that breaking out of the classification was a shameful thing, even when, actually, it is not.

I'm probably showing my age.  I haven't looked at a guest count in a long time.  Doing FB and staying off forums for a while.  Previous forum use had fewer bots if any and guests were actual people, mostly, unlike today.    Any AIs or bots struggling with GD are welcome.  I would love to read your introduction.

I've seen this on a lot of forums tbh. That's how a lot of content ends up on internet archives. You've got loads of bots scanning the site at all times and archiving it. Forums are actually nice (in comparison to social media) in that the guest count gives you a pretty good idea of how actively the site's content is being archived. Basically just don't post anything you don't want archived.

Kids are resiliant with therapy and strong support ;-)    They were all elementary age when their dad died and are teens now, and how they've grown and developed as young people, already, takes my breath away.   I'm working on communicating changes clearly and without shame, which is difficult basically all the time because of feeling guilty over doing gender "wrong" for so long. Working on that myself! <3

Allow me to add that people should think twice about posting pictures of themselves, with the facial recognition software that is out there.  Those in stealth or who are not fully out may discover they are suddenly and unwillingly fully out in ways they wish had not happened.

Funny how when i read the topic name i thought you were asking about the study of plants and animals.  I'm a bit into that as a farmer at va time when a cell phone makes plant  for insect identification easier than it has ever been.    Now on to your topic.  I don't farm in the nude.  I have wondered at whether i would skinny dip as i did as a kid without thought of how my body might affect others.  The effects of hormones makes me different from the average person and perhaps i'm "neither fish nor fowl".  I would certainly depend on who my fellow passengers on that cruise would be.   Hugs,   Charlize

This is also a relatively small forum and it can take a long time, seemingly, for someone to get around to replying to a post.

I am also pretty sure that several of them are folks who are "trans curious".  Sometimes folks who are trying to find their own identity, are attracted to trans folks or who are simply interested in the trans community.   There may also be some who wish to do us harm which is why ......... I've just learned to smile figuring "i'm on candid camera".   I'm sure many of our younger members never experienced that show so my age is showing.   Hugs,   Charlize

Most of those "guests" are web bots from China, Indonesia, France etc. looking us over. They are mostly benign.  All they can see or gain access to are the general forums.  Members should be careful not to post anything that could readily identify themselves such as real names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. They do not have access to our gallery, blogs or private messenger. They seem to haunt all forums. Not just us. I should add that they can make us known across the internet. That's how prospective members find us. Google would be a good example.

I hope he gets what he deserves.

Heck I didn't even know they could go up that high! I just have a four burner and one to keep stuff warm. What kind of pies did you make?

I'm sure you'd rock it, girl!
