So, Came Out to My Parents...

I left them a letter before going on a trip to drop off my boyfriend back where he lives right now. It's a six hour trip one way, so I knew I'd be gone for more than 12 hours. It went well enough.

I mean, they took it well. My mom sent me a text saying “Whatever is going on with you I want you to know I still love you.” So I know they saw it.

My dad may have even said “Go get him” to my dog when I came in the door.

Aside from that, I wouldn’t really know they’d even read it, though. When I finally came back home it was like nothing ever happened. Not sure how I feel about this. I mean, I’m happy for the most part. Their reaction could have been much, much worse. I’m lucky. They would never kick me out or disown me. This not talking part is just kind of weird.

At least I don’t have to hide it anymore. I'm gonna give them some more time to process it, I think that would be best.

Hi Kai,

All I can do is share with you my experience when I came out. Initially everyone appeared to be very supportive, but questioning. Later there was a lot of waxing and waning between supportive/understanding to questioning why. There was a period for me where I was spending many hours day after to day explaining what I was all about and what being transgendered meant. For me, the whole process took about a year plus.

Eventually, everyone in my family calmed down and finally understood. That was a lot of work.

Aww Kai that is wonderful I am glad they took it so well!

I think your parents will just want to know just a lot about you and how you found yourself, and I'm sure they'll want to learn just what it means to be transsexual. After that, life looks good for you congrats

Yay, dad has finally said something.

He said he wanted me to know that it didn't matter to him. That he didn't care. He knew that nobody had really said anything since I had left the letter so he wanted to make sure I knew that.

I am so happy.

Now we'll wait to see what Mom says about it face to face. It'll be interesting to get more detail about exactly what she thinks about it.
