Monday morning I managed to get the EEO Chairman alone for a few minutes.

I plopped a copy of the OPM Guidance for Transgender Federal Employees (http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/diversity-and-inclusion/reference-materials/gender-identity-guidance/)

and the Transequality.org TG Federal Employee workplace rights document (http://transequality.org/Resources/FederalEmployees_Feb2012.pdf)

on his desk and told him that I'm transgender and currently transitioning from male to female and it was time to get HR and my management together and discuss a timeline and any issues that may come up. He took it in stride and said he'd speak with HR himself and help them decide who is required to be at this meeting and when would be a good time and so on.

So today I am informed that next Tuesday morning is the date and time of the meeting. Only one of my supervisors has said that he can't make it, but I came out to him a couple weeks ago so we can just backfill him on the details later.

That means that Tuesday I'll be officially out at work! :D I'm so excited! I'll finally be 100% full time. No more putting makeup on in the parking lot before I go home :P:rolleyes:

Very cool! And looking great, too :) If I may ask, how long on HRT for you so far?

I'm probably going to have to go full time earlier than anticipated because of a job opportunity. I'd rather start as female than transition on the job if at all possible.

Nevermind, I saw in your gallery some rough dates for 9 weeks, and it looks like you started HRT within a few days of when I did :)

Nice!

Thank you all for your replies. I'm so excited and anxious about the meeting on Tuesday. It seems a little surreal that I'm finally getting this part done.

I'll be sure to post an update after the meeting! :D

So, this morning's meeting went very well. I brought enough copies of the documents I linked in my original post for everyone, including the HR representatives. I was hoping that HR would have had more experience with transitioning employees, but they had at least done quite a bit of homework so were knowledgeable. I am very happy with the positive attitude of all the people there, especially the managers.

The biggest issue, of course, was the bathroom dilemma. The facilities manager is looking into converting one of the bathrooms near where I work into a unisex bathroom, ostensibly for me to use as a temporary measure. That suits me just fine, temporarily. ;)

My immediate supervisor brought up the fact that the federal guidance explicitly states that I should be addressed with my new name and pronouns and he wanted to know if I wanted that to happen immediately. I told him that immediately wasn't necessary since I am still waiting on the court papers for my name change, but that once they go through, hopefully this week or next, that I would be changing my ID cards and email address and such and that would be the proper time to switch over. He seemed to like being given a short time to ease into it :)

All in all it was a great experience. So much support from my supervisors, it makes me feel much more confident that this was the right time to officially come out. I feel like a great burden has been lifted of of me.

That's fantastic Kay. Everything is moving in the right direction, and I'll bet it only gets better from here. :)

That's great news KayLee, glad it went so well for you. I can assure you that it only gets better from here on in. One day, you will be walking out of your office and suddenly you'll think 'wow, I'm accepted as me - they are accepting me as a girl' and it is the most wonderful feeling. It won't be long until you suddenly find yourself no longer thinking about it anymore and that you are just getting on with your life as you - that again, is such a nice feeling. Yes, it's a wonderful thing to find acceptance as you. Congratulations.

Hugs

i'm so glad for your news. Now you can celebrate by going to a meeting. I'm glad it has gone so well. The weeks ahead will be full of excitement and joy combined with some moments of fear and worry i would guess. That's how it was for me at least. We are here for you. What a wonderful journey!

Congratulations! It sure is one of the best feelings being able to come out at work and become yourself in all parts of your life.

be prepared for some people who can't be bothered saying your name / pronouns properly. I can only suggest you request it said earlier than later, as it will help them get used to it.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful replies. I'm so glad we are all here and so readily support each other. I honestly don't think that without all of your support I would be where I am right now, moving steadily toward a life that I have only dreamed about, that I thought was just a fantasy that I could never actually achieve.

It feels surreal at times.

Hi Kaylee;

Thank you so much for providing a link to OPM's policy on transgender employees. As a federal employee I have been somewhat concerned as to how to approach coming out to my employer. You have provided an invaluable resource, thanks again hon and Congrats to you for your continued journey to full womanhood!

I guess this was commonplace in females. But if your prostate gland is still in place this can contribute to urinal difficulties too.

https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/05/15/peru-chooses-bigotry-medical-services     The Health Ministry tried to put the best face on this unscientific gibberish of a decree, but it won't diminish the harm it will do to the Pervian trans community.  They undoubtedly already suffer from severe discrimination and bigotry in a very macho-opriented society.   Carolyn Marie

I'd never heard of it until reading this.  From the thread title I thought it had something to do with the state of Idaho.  But perhaps combined with something about Hobbits, which seemed odd.  My brain goes in weird directions.

I had my surgery 11 years ago, and yes, I too find it much more of an urgent thing than it ever was before.  One possible culprit is going to be T blockers if you are still on them, also the urethral sphincter which holds the pee back is closer to the urethral opening now and more subject to stimulation. When we gotta go we gotta goooooo!!

I notice that the Wikipedia article does not mention the U.S.A. which I can understand a bit.  The entire month of June here is Pride Month for all the organizations and is tied to the 1969 Stonewall Inn riots in New York and also our medical authorities are also not tied as thoroughly to the WHO as they are to the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations which write the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health which is generally in line with the WHO which does not play as big a part in our medical practices here.  The WHO does not impact us the way it does the other world countries which is why we are in the dark about the day.  Ironically though, one of the U.S. States is named Idaho which sadly is one of the most conservative and frustrating to the U.S. LGBTQ Community.   The day is international though in the sense of other European and Southern Hemisphere countries it seems.
    • Mirrabooka
Hmm. Must have been that pesky 'International' word which made me assume that it was well known! I only became aware of it myself last year.   Brief history: May 17th is the day IDAHOBIT is acknowledged as it is the anniversary of when in 1990 the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. It was conceived in 2004 and first celebrated in 2005. It has gone on to include trans folk in 2009 and bi folk in 2015.   International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - Wikipedia

A year and a half post op. I've noticed that once the urge to pee hits, I can only hold it for about 15 minutes or so until it gets to the point where I feel like I'm going to piss myself. I used to be able to hold it a lot longer (as I  remember it).  I know my urethra is a bit shorter now, but I don't think it is enough to account for this. Am I imagining it?

It's also networking.  Sometimes jobs come along because someone knows someone else - these older people might know someone.  "Hey, Ashley," someone might say,"My nephew is looking for love. He likes tall women. Whatcha think? Can he call you?"   Don't discount their ability to match make.  It is about networking.

He is simply doing to get more votes. He held a Trump for trans during his first run and found out the majority of his voters were against us so he simply followed the crowd.

The sad part is I'm the third oldest member. One is in their 60's and the other is past 70's. I'm even older than the president lol. It's a younger crowd that's for sure. I like to come here to feel young again lol.
    • Sally Stone
Ashley, I think searching for relationships are a lot like searching for jobs, they tend to come along when you aren't actually looking.  Perhaps you could step back from actively searching, at least for a little while, and instead, concentrate on just being out and about as yourself.  Like Mae and Abby have already mentioned, just keep up your volunteering, but don't focus on a need to find someone.  Maybe, just maybe, changing your tactics will result in someone finding you.    I do wish only the best for you, and I hope someone comes along who connects with you.
