Hi,

I have a lot of questions. Since I found out about gender change late in life ( I was 40 ).

I need as help & info. As I can get. I live in Texas,

I know every state is a little different.

I will be getting my name changed in the next 2 months

Questions !!

1.)Before I go to get new driver licenses what do I have to do to get the gender changed ?

2.) I have heard that in order to start T ( HRT ) most if not all Dr.'s require a letter

from a Therapist. Can anyone tell me if that is true.

3.) Since I am older how do you handle the change in the work place & / or future

work. I don't plan on changing jobs but you never know these day's plus at some

point I will be moving back to TN. & my resume has my what will be my former

name & gender all my past employer's know me by it.

So any feed back on how to handle that ?

I am just so unsure of how to handle my transition. Any help would be greatly Appreciated !!

Dear Jamie,

Sorry young lad but late in life?!! My son is 39. Many of us here have started with a few more years gone. I was 63 when i decided to transition. Please do not think that age should hold you back from living the life you feel you should live.

I am not sure what Texas requires for ganging the gender marker on your license. NJ requires a doctors note which i downloaded from their website and my primary doctor filled in. You may hear from a Texas trans person but google your MV site and they may well post the information.

Most MD's do require a letter from a therapist. Even if they don't it is certainly the best thing you can do for yourself. A good GT can help immensely. Mine helped me with many of the issues you described as well as helping me to understand possibilities. Perhaps of most importance she helped me to feel comfortable with my path. The guilt i had always lived with slowly lifted. Please do go to a Gender therapist it is worth the time and $.

Please take some time and read the coming out forum. Many there have described their experiences with employment. All have different stories. You may do well to find out your companies existing policy. Many large companies have established policies that outline topics like notification and acceptance down to rest room use.

Best of luck and please understand that your not alone. The support i got here helped me a great deal in finding a safe and "easier" path.

Hugs,

Charlie

Jamie, here is some information on Texas DL changes, including the gender marker:

https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLicense/changes.htm

Transitioning in your current job can be easy or difficult, largely depending on the policies of your employer and the attitudes of your supervisors and co-workers. Usually you need to have the name change in hand, and then go through a process of educating and informing your HR staff and management. As Charlie said, there are many examples of success, and unsuccess, in the Coming Out Forum.

As far as changing jobs, it is difficult to remain stealth while seeking new employment. As you said, names used on a resume could be problematic, but don't have to be. If you let your current employer know that you will be using them as a reference, you can make arrangements for them to use only your new name, or they can note that you changed names while employed there. You should have your Social Security info changed by then, too.

Good luck, hon.

HUGS

Thanks all !!

I am lucky, I just read that the company I currently work for has been voted the best place to work by the LGBT for the 7th year in a row.

I have seen a terapist a few years ago, but had to stop before I got my letter. I do plan on starting back when I tart T or if I have to before I can start T.

Carolyn Marie I will definately check out the site to see what I need to do. I just feel to live as a man for a year or two before being able to move forward

I would need my drivers license to match my gender. I will also look at the coming out forum, at 1st glance I thought is was more about coming out to family & friends.

Again Thanks All !!

Getting you gender marker changed is gonna take a court order. A lot of us get it changed when we do our name change. Some counties have judges who grant them and some do not. I know a lawyer who does them in Dallas county and she is very affordable.

Congratulations on getting the go ahead with HRT. I'm so ready for my wife to drop her opposition. As for the mood swings... I would look forward to them myself.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Three reprimands and they suspend attendance for a couple weeks.

Good for the other participant. What's involved in a reprimand? At our age, what are they going to do? Withhold snacks...   @BirdieI'm sorry you have to put up with such discrimination's. I'm proud that you're standing up for yourself.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Associating LGBTQIA+ with pedophilia or "grooming" is a conspiracy theory as old as the study of psychiatry (mid-19th century) when early "scientists" theorized that homosexuality was caused by childhood trauma of having been molested by older men. Some of us have moved on and become educated since those days, but conspiracy theories have an uncanny staying power...the "power" of ignorance, including the titillation of scandal. There is some psychology about people being attracted to outrage and fear. Life is naturally dynamic and uncertain. Unless you have developed a transcendent mastermind, most people have some level of discomfort with that. Therefore, it is weirdly comforting to target a particular thing as a threat and to make a big fuss about it, whether or not it has any credence. And it is comforting to be one among a mass who are equally outraged about a thing, whether or not the thing is real. It is also boosts the ego to speak with vehement "authority" about a thing that is a known trigger for the masses. Like Vicky said, Dunning-Kruger Effect.   However prominent a movement there is or not of pedophiles claiming that their perversion is a sexuality (I have heard of that, but never as it being a major influence), it is the case that much of the viral spread of disinformation associating LBGTQIA+ with pedophilia is due to online trolls. Surely, there are loads of 'em. But here's just one reported story. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/posing-gay-men-twitter-troll-goes-viral-attempts-falsely-tie-n954721

Another interesting day at the day-centre....   Another participant called me "sweet cheeks" and we both got reprimanded for inappropriate behavior. 🙄

She stood at the world's edge, awaiting judgment Isolation judged to be an insufficient burden The skies above required a hand, precisely two To keep the heavens high and keep the vaulted sky from crushing you She bent her knee and gritted teeth, awaiting weight Mentally preparing mind and body for the grimmest fate. Her head was bent, the firmament so hard to hold, Her back against the wall and braced against a fall And all that matters is she never ever drop it There she stands.  If they weren't full, her head would be in her hands. Heroes they came, from far and from wide to gawk at the girl who held up the sky.

Lets get this topic back on track folks.  Please spell out your acronyms for your specific meaning of the letter combinations and then re-read your own typing before hitting the send button.  We are here to be supporting each other and not stomping on someone's last nerve.  In the past we have used our DWF (Dirty Word Filter) to interpret certain acronyms and then the members were begging us to delete the posts for them one or two leaving with injured feelings.  Community Rules 7 (about posts being in clear English and Rule 8 (being suitable for people under 18) can come into play here. Thank you.

I could be described, I suppose, as a RWNJ.   A little stereotyping seems to be going on.  Don't complain about Trans stereotypes if you turn around and stereotype others.  A lot of RWNJs are actually decent people and get called that by people who pick up on one or two alleged beliefs.  I would rather single out influential individuals of whatever camp and call them to correction.   Trans folk are a small minority, even as small minorities go.  There are probably a lot more RWNJs running around than there are trans folk.

They cut a lot of trees here as well.  A lot of them toward the coast end up chipped up and sent to Europe to burn in power plants.  That bothers me, seems like a dumb idea.

Most likely.   Unfortunately this was expected.  I expect it will be the norm in any GOP controlled state that hasn't already done it.  So much effort expended against so few.  I certainly haven't seen my area being overrun by trans kids.   And yeah, I fully expect them to go after my HRT next. I think those that are railing against us are much more dangerous than some non-binary high school sophomore.

Her name is Sunny and she is so much fun. But, as you said @KymmieL, it is a challenge with a new puppy. Thankfully our 13 year old Lab is taking the addition in stride and being supremely tolerant.
