Age, HRT and Appetite

This is the exact opposite of the recent thread on always being hungry.

I have noticed for quite a while that my appetite and ability to eat even medium portions of food has decline markedly in the last couple of years. I have a feeling its due to my age affecting my metabolism. But I wonder if HRT effects it also? It's probably been discussed here, but I'm too full to look. ^_^ All I had for dinner was some soup, one chicken thigh and a little Asian noodles and greens. Not so long ago, two thighs and a big helping of sides would have been just right.

Complicating things is the fact that, if I eat too little, I have to be really careful not to overdo my insulin dosage or bad things can happen. Sorta like walking a dietary tightrope. Ah well, living to a ripe old age sometimes sucks, but it beats the alternative.

Hi Carolyn,

Oh, I wish! I've never lost my appetite since the old T days. A few years back, I'd dieted down to a perfect weight, but HRT and a lack of exercise reversed that. I ended 2013 with a painfully fat belly. I've launched back onto the diet and exercise program again and the determination of regaining fitness has been my strength against overeating.

Maybe one day my appetite will match my needs. But not yet.

Love, Megan

HRT does affect appetite I think. I need to space my injections more and bring my T levels down a little. I noticed when I did that I was not hungry for a couple of days for the first time in 3 years. Literally can't remember a time since starting T I haven't been hungry till then. I had my shot and the hunger was right back. What it may have been like prior to transition I can't be sure because at 350 lbs I obviously wasn't letting myself get hungry much - I ate all day every day.

I'm also really surprised at the difference between male and female metabolism because on an E based metabolism it was a matter of the less you eat the more weight you lose while it seems to be with a T based metabolism it means finding an optimal balance and when I eat too little I don't lose-I just feel bad and slow down. Hard to describe exactly except that it is different for me.

Somewhere I read that our bodies think we are going through puberty again when we start hormones-something that varies enormously between individuals. Maybe your metabolism has now decided you are a grown woman now Carolyn and therefore need less to maintain a healthy life. For myself because I literally have tens of thousands of empty fat cells screaming to be filled it will probably never happen that way but it would be nice and I envy you that not hungry feeling.

The main thing is to enjoy what you are hungry for when you are as I'm sure you do.

Hugs

Johnny

I have found that i also need less food. I seem to be stabilized at a reasonable weight. The farm keeps me somewhat active but even so this weather has kept me in more than usual. i get hungry but now a soup that used to be a start is the meal. I think it is for the best! Being a veggie though if i feel the need for more i can graze on greens for a good while and not gain weight. I rarely add any oil so they are mostly fluid and crunch.

Hugs,

Charlize

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.

I am so glad you enjoy them as well. The help things “stay put” so well. It got me through some of my most dysphoric times.   Wow, I hadn’t heard this at last week’s Zoom meeting if you had mentioned it. That is a huge milestone April Marie.I have no doubt that this confidence will only grow in time. The freedom of being yourself, especially in public, is a wonderful feeling. I am truly happy for you.😘   *Big Congratulatory Hug* Susan R🌷

@Abigail Genevieve, that is not an appropriate question, IMO.  This isn't the Army/McCarthy hearings.   Carolyn Marie

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

She was a beautiful young woman ...   "What we do know is that the offender was a very violent individual and should not have been on our streets.”  Whether gender related or not, the mental health and incarceration issues in our country are incredibly bad and need to be addressed.

April,   I'm glad my entries are interesting to you.  TransCentralPA is a great organization with so many caring people.  I would strongly recommend you find a way to attend the Keystone Conference.  I guarantee you'll find it an amazing experience.     Hugs,   Sally

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?

I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?
