This is a legal Opinion by Walter Bockting PHD who is the past President of WPATH. and who was a keynote speaker at the 2011 WPATH Conference where SOC 7 was presented. His keynote speech contained the basic content of this document in regard to transgender identity.

I have at least 2 IRL friends who were his patients over the years.

This is very much in line with my learning. Part of the problem here and in many cases is how each of us understand different words and the homogenization of words.

Sex is the body the doctor IDs at birth. Gender ID is the sense of self. Many people here have a conflict between the two. If there was no conflict, there wouldn't be a treatment plan involving meds and invasive surgery.

Over the years sex and gender have become the same and gender identity and gender presentation have become interwoven. And people argue when they may be agreeing using different words or others that think they agree really don't.

. . . But to illustrate a simple problem with your ideology, if you get a pet or procure livestock or even simply classify animals in the wild, how do you determine if they are make or female?

Obviously, we will classify animals according to their external genitalia (yet humans are still denied proper identification even after surgical correction of external genitalia) or their breeding practices (even though not all animals/human are fertile). But since we cannot communicate with pets and livestock to the same degree as we can with other humans, it is hard to know to what degree some of them do in fact have transsexual identification due to internal brain incongruency with the rest of the body. We know they have no provisions for transition! ;) And who knows, maybe in their social systems they can be accepted as the proper sex/gender simply based on their behavior? I doubt that they have the same level of body image anxiety as we do. So is this illustration you offered even analogous?

Analogous? Nah. But meant to illustrate that humans classify things by the outward appearance. Why do we do that?

And so I don't sound too cryptic, I'll answer. Because a good deal about 'identity' can be determined by a thing's (anything really / animate or not) physical make up. Identity, at least in my opinion, is a culmination of all aspects of self; not just one organ - even when that organ is the brain.

Everyone seems to want to classify. In my experience, many non-trans people will classify by primary sex characteristics, while many trans people will emphasize gender presentation.

I personally think that when you bring animals into such a discussion (who mind you, have no self identity/free will to understand this) then the idea has went to far.

Animals are indeed free spirits with the ability to care, love unconditionally and many other things that we relate to for companionship but you can not state with a clean opinion that they also have the *ability to get married, have GRS* and many other human related actions/needs.

Thus they do NOT have a sense of being or self personality or *gender identity* they do feel, they do care but this is as far as their ability goes. Im sure many animal lovers will disagree and this is fine but remember, they do not exist or develop as a human does.

I wish to throw this out here as to make a point to this.

I learned a very important fact these past few weeks based on this very discussion. Before a hysto, my body reacted to HRT (T) in a very positive way but most of all,so did my brain/mental stability. But the two hormones over time, overwhelmed each other and began making me ill. (side note: i spent most of my life physically sick,in pain and mentally unstable due to E- long before even touching T) I was now producing more T then i should have been for someone producing E but the effects it had on my brain, were still positive. I was forced to stop for physical reasons until the hysto was complete. After the hysto,I found something very interesting. I decided to wait the 6 weeks before starting again so that i could heal but my brain (now lacking in E as well and no T) had other plans. One could say a form of mena took place and this is partly true. I was very tired, lack of interest in things- this is normal BUT i became angry, aggressive, irritated very easy,i began to have a mental break down,my reaction started to even scare me. i sunk into a depression as well and a VERY deep one,so near suicide. I could not (at the time) understand this extreme reaction mentally. so i thought to myself *maybe i should go ahead and restart* and so i did. A few hours later,as said T began to process through my system, i regained mental stability out of no where. the depression, aggression (which they say T can even cause an increase in but as you can see the results) and such extreme thoughts, had been removed. Now of course many can say many things as to why this is and i will not debate those things but knowing myself as well as i do, the only possible conclusion for me is- my brain literally needs THIS hormone and for reasons that can only be explained within these studies. As the link i posted explains, the severity can depend on the state of arrested development. I honestly believe without a doubt that these brain studies are 100% true and i also do know that i had no such reaction with the loss of E. I was even having migraines. (as i did 99% of the time while having E but until i continued my T as normal, they had stopped and so did most of my physical pain *among many other things*)

With the above,my point is simply that there are many things we still do not understand due to the studies (as a whole) that have been made. Opinion is different from fact and we are all very open and welcome to those opinions. But ones opinion is nothing next to what is fact for me. The same is said for the sex of my brain and its need for its corresponding hormone. Can i explain how E effected my body in such a negative way for so many years? No but i hope to find this out as well very soon. Could there be many other under laying issues? Yes that is very possible but i still stick with what i know due to my mental/brain's reaction to each of them. I ask that you do not dismiss studies that work very hard to push us forward in understanding all of these aspects because you feel your opinion over them,is valid. Until such a time that fact is placed before us in all of these,to prove or disprove ones opinion (aka one who simply has not suffered or dealt with such things) i feel that being fluid is the best way forward for ALL of us.

I totally agree Chris. This is my third week on Estrogen and from the beginning my mind is so calm and clear there is no tug of war going inside my body anymore. I live my life with a clear head now.

I have always believed that there are three parts: gender identity, gender expresson, and sex. If gender idenitity and our gender expression are fluid and on a vast rainbow scale how can our biological characteristics be any different? Like the above posters have posted there are females and males who are still recognized as their sex even with issues with their reproductive organs and chromosomes. We actually learned about this in Biology, our teacher spoke about how there are a lot of differences physiologically that can occur in females.

My sex cannot be just male, otherwise I would be perfectly fine dressing female all the time and just live perfectly with testorterone in my body. However thats not what I can do I hate hate hate getting a beard it has always been super painful, and I also find my penis very foreign to me.

I also really dislike this author, how could someone deliberatly hurt another person just to score a few partisan points. (How he kept refering to Laverne as "he") And gential mutilation? Give me a break.

Love,

Kathleen (Finally picked a permanent name)

I firmly believe I drank entirely to much for about 25 years. Got drunk every day. This was my coping mechanism to keep hiding deep inside that I was a woman. I miss a lot of signs over the years. Now I drink mabye 1 or 2 beers a day don't even get a buzz anymore. totally accept myself and on regret is that I hide that part of my self which  truly makes me happy being violet 💜. I wasted a lot of time before  being self destructive and had no clue I was just hiding th real me

Well it not morning and I haven’t been on her for a while but it’s nice to be back.  Did some catching up on everyone.  I do have a question, how is Toronto Canada for a get away? Is it a safe and friendly area for us to go.  The wife and I are looking for some where to go to allow me to be my true self.     thanks in advance

Hey, everyone. my life is going down the tubes. at least I think. So, today. A customer called about his car, I told him that the oil change was done. The parts to fix the check engine light are ordered. He can come and get it. For the weekend if he wants. Customer says I didn't want an oil change. it was check the engine light and check for an oil leak. Checking the work order says oil change. The boss wrote the vehicle up. checking with the customer on services wanted.   Being that I wrote down the appointment in the book. and clearly states oil leak. She is complaining because she can't read my small ish writing. It seems she read oil and assumed it as an oil change. It seems like she is blaming me.  She wound up going home because she was too upset. She is stressing about an eye problem she has, she has to get eye surgery it seems she has a tear in her eye.    I feel that I am short for this job. because of the BS they are blaming me on. Plus I am still upset about the trust issue. If either one of the bosses start their Shite tomorrow. I am walking out.

"I love you so much,"  Lois said.  They met in the driveway. "I could not live without you." "Neither could I." "What are we going to do?" "Find another counselor?" "No. I think we need to solve this ourselves." "Do you think we can?" "I don't know.  But what I know is that I don't want to go through that again.  I think we have to hope we can find a solution." "Otherwise, despair." "Yeah.   Truce?" "Okay,  truce." And they hugged.   "When we know what we want we can figure out how to get there."   That began six years of angry battles, with Odie insisted he could dress as he pleased and Lois insisting it did not please her at all.  He told her she was not going to control him and she replied that she still had rights as a wife to a husband. Neither was willing to give in, neither was willing to quit, and their heated arguments ended in hugs and more.   They went to a Crossdressers' Club, where they hoped to meet other couples with the same problems, the same conflicts, and the same answers, if anyone had any.  It took them four tries before they settled on a group that they were both willing to participate in.  This was four couples their own age, each with a cross dressing husband and a wife who was dealing with it.  They met monthly.  It was led by a 'mediator' who wanted people to express how they felt about the situation.  Odie and Lois, as newcomers, got the floor, and the meeting was finally dismissed at 1:30 in the morning - it was supposed to be over at 10 - and everyone knew how they felt about the situation.   There was silence in the car on the way home.   "We aren't the only ones dealing with this." Odie finally said.   "Who would have thought that?  You are right."   "Somebody out there has a solution." "I hope you are right."   "I hope in hope, not in despair."   "That's my Odie."

The counseling session was heated, if you could call it a counseling session.  Sometimes Lois felt he was on Odie's side, and sometimes on hers.  When he was on her side, Odie got defensive. She found herself being defensive when it seemed they were ganging up on each other.   "This is not working," Lois said angrily, and walked out.  "Never again. I want my husband back. Dr. Smith you are complicit in this."   "What?" said Odie.   The counselor looked at him.  "You will have to learn some listening skills."   "That is it? Listening skills?  You just destroyed my marriage, and you told me I need to learn listening skills?"   Dr. Smith said calmly,"I think you both need to cool off."   Odie looked at him and walked out, saying "And you call yourself a counselor."   "Wait a minute."   "No."

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.
