Songs that you relate to transition

I have a few songs that I consider sort of personal transition songs, because I relate to them so well even though they weren't written in relation to transgender issues.

My girlfriend designated "Porcelain" by Marianas Trench (Let's just get this out of the way early, most of them are Marianas Trench. lol.) as my coming out song.

I was sitting in my car with her in the moments before I was preparing to go home and leave the letter for them, terrified. I didn't want to do it, I wanted to just run. I knew they would never kick me out, but I was still scared as hell. She told me later that she was thinking of this part of the song in particular:

Oh, when your heart releases,
You won't fall to pieces
You'll let those old diseases lie
Oh, and your heart releases,
You won't fall to pieces

But the whole song is great for the situation, I find. (It will also likely be our wedding song. That or "Beside You," but this one has more significance.)

And the next song, called Ever After, is the one that makes be think about the day I return to my hometown after transitioning. After the point where I decide I won't hide anymore.

Apologies, I'm not myself but I can guarantee
That when I get back, you won't believe
That you knew me well
Don't want to think about it
I'm f'in tired of getting sick about it

In the beginning it's like describing me as I was, before I even discovered i was trans*. With all the anxiety, and feeling wrong somehow and not knowing why. Then describing the return, when everybody will be surprised because most of them would never have had an inkling that I was transgender. And the rest is rather self-explanatory with getting sick of hiding, and fighting for the need to be myself.

Another line in that song is "Face the Music when it's Dire." It reminds me to keep going when things get hard, it's what I thought to myself when I was sitting in the car, terrified about telling anyone. I had to just do it. When I left my coming out letter I was actually wearing my concert t-shirt that said those particular words. I plan to have it tattooed on the inside of my left arm. (Appropriately, I plan to have some kind of subtle emphasis on the letters F, T, M.)

Now, the third song that comes to mind is a song that has become ENORMOUSLY popular after the release of the movie it was featured in. That would be "Let it Go" from Frozen. I'm sure that a lot of trans* people relate to this song. Particularly the parts about hiding it in the beginning, and then just learning to say "to hell with it" and letting yourself be free.

My favorite part to sing is:

I'm never going back,
The past is in the past!

Let it go, let it go
And I'll rise like the break of dawn

I have a lot more that relate to my life outside of being trans, and if anyone was interested I'd be happy to type that up, too. But I figured I would start with this. I would love to see what other songs everyone else relates to, whether they were intended to be trans*-related or not.

it's my life, the no doubt version. I love the lyrics and the tone she use as she sings.

It's funny how I find myself
In love with you
If I could buy my reasoning
I'd pay to lose
One half won't do

Just a general comment regarding this and other song threads: you are welcome to post links to sites with song lyrics. Copyright issues then become that site's problem, not ours. But you cannot post more than 4-5 lines of lyrics on this site. Nor can you post links to Youtube or other music video sites unless they are directly trans related, or you have permission of a Moderator or Admin.

We don't do this just to be cranky and bothersome. A single law suit would put this web site out of business. So please, no lyrics. Thanks very much.

I've found some songs to empower me, keep in mind that these are personal, and might not be for everyone.

Katy Perry - Roar

Make it Shine - Victoria Justice

I'd have to say definitely my favorite songs to jam to when I'm thinking about this topic would be Satellite or Make it Stop both are by Rise Against. But I have a few other favs like:

Just about anything by Linkin Park

Bring me to life-Evanescence

Survive-Rise Against

Mirror- Lil Wayne

Even if it breaks your heart- Eli Young Band

A lot of Eminems more serious music

Boulevard of broken dreams- Green day

I have a lot more that I can't think of but I think I'll leave it at those for now.

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.

This wouldn't even be a problem if they would just leave us alone.  It is a no-brainer.

OMG.  I'm glad it wasn't worse, and you were able to get on it quickly.  Lots of blood can be scary.

Like I said, I'm no tankie, but I do see a world of difference between Joseph Stalin and Bernie Sanders.   If the point is not wanting 'government control' the Right is pretty good at that themselves - as they've been demonstrating lately. This stuff gets complicated.

So, I am curious. Is the Governor going to mandate vaginal or penile recognition photos before one enters the restroom? Considering the Governor has no balls to do the right thing, will he have to pee against a tree outside? Inquiring minds would like to know. I love it when the job recruiters contact me about the wonderful jobs available in Oklahoma. It is so much fun telling them there is no way I will ever go to Oklahoma. When there are no workers, then they can shutter the place.

Ngl, probably Sonic the Hedgehog, the Beatles, or the Monkees. Those are the three subjects I know the most about so I could drop hours of info on them.

Isaac Asimov, Albert Einstein and Robert Kennedy, in that order.

Thank you! I'm out of coffee so I have been drinking hot tea instead. Looking forward to the 1st. It's crazy that we are almost in May. This year has flown by really quick! Good to hear that y'all got to sleep in. Hope you have a good weekend too!

It's nice to care about others but you need to live your life as you please. No one be your only source of happiness. Love yourself and don't look back. I lost over 40 family members it hurts but apparently, they didn't truly love me. True love will always be there through the thick and thin. I can honestly say that HRT has made me think in ways that I never thought I would. I get myself some shoes or clothes every month because retail therapy not only helps but it is a reward to myself to show love. I have over 100 dresses. I have a whole walk-in-closet full of clothes and 67 pairs of shoes. I love who I am. I was born in 84 so not all people in the 80's think that way. As far as the name just take your time and be happy with it. I knew I loved the name Ashley. Take care and welcome!

Congratulations Sam,   The common saying her once someone starts HRT is: “Enjoy the ride.”   Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

WOW @Ashley0616 it’s good that you have skills to treat traumatic injuries, as well as the ability to remain calm while managing others needs to get yourself and the boys ready to go to the hospital. Proud mama bear skills. I’m glad that he’s doing well.    Meanwhile back at the ranch, we slept in and I’m just now finishing my 3rd cup of coffee.    Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well yesterday was not fun. I was getting ready to make dinner and I hear screaming and crying. I look over and my son put his foot through glass. He gashed near his Achilles tendon. Thankfully that is intact. I didn't freeze for a second. All of my military training came into play. I doctored him up and got Jett ready and myself and we headed to the ER. He is doing ok today. He says he is in pain but doesn't need Tylenol. He is a tough cookie!

Hi,   It's seems today is my trans birthday.  I'm beyond excited. Just picked up my testogel from the pharmacy. Although I naturally have doubts as I'm sure do we all, they are rapidly disappearing. Yesterday I was so nervous I kept claiming I'm not trans, despite grinning like a fool knowing I can pick up my prescription the next day. I'm shaking and on the verge of happy tears. I will put on my first sachet this eve. Thanks so much to this forum and kind words from people. This is the first forum I found when I began seriously questioning.
