Outted Myself

Exactly what the title says; I came out to my mom today that I was gender dysphoric, and she took it pretty well. She told me right off the bat that she and my dad (who doesn't know yet) would be there and support me no matter what. The conversation lasted only a few minutes, and it was still pretty uncomfortable. I would think it wouldn't surprise her too much, what with my long hair and working towards de-hairing my body (a long process, to say the least).

What I'm asking for with this post is for websites other than this one that would be good to teach my parents a bit more about transgendered, transsexual, and androgynous topics. Thank you all in advance.

I count myself lucky that my friends and family are so understanding and I hope that it goes as well as it did for me for everyone else. Love you. <3

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

Thank you for sharing, Sable Dove. Your mom will have some questions later so be prepared to answer them. One book I recommend is "My Husband Betty" by Helen Boyd. I'm sure that there are resources here that will help them.

Dear Sable Dove,

I am so proud and happy for you that you came out to your mom and she immediately said they she and your dad would support you. That is so wonderful!!! I don't know of any URLs offhand (eventhough I have been to other sites). I suggest that you google on "transgender" or "gender dysphoria" and get some URLs that way.

Anyway, good going, and good luck!! You are on your way!!!

Thanks, gennee and bernie. I'll be sure to be ready for any questions, and I'll look in to finding "My Husband Betty."

Wikipedia is thus far my friend, and it's got plenty of good info that's at least mostly correct, if not entirely.

Congratulations Sable Dove.

I always suggest going to Lynn Conway's website - it is a wonderful source for information and has galleries of successful Trans women and Trans men so they can feel a little more comfortable about the possibilities of a brigth future for you.

Tha's always the main concern for parents - the site is predominently about MTF because that is Lynn's story but it has tons of good information.

Here is one for transgendered youth and family - I think they will like this one, it's for the parents as well.

There is a book called "Always My Child" by Kevin Jennings he talks about coming out as Gay in a Southern Babtist town and how his fammily dealt with it.

I hope that helps.

Love ya,

Sally

Hey, congrats!

This is all stuff I showed to my parents after coming out to them:

Here's a pretty good video that explains some trans 101 basics:

Here's a booklet from PFLAG called Our Trans Children

Thanks Sally, Liam.

But I can't seem to get Liam's links to work... I keep getting:

"The error returned was:

Sorry, some required files are missing, if you intended to view a topic, it's possible that it's been moved or deleted. Please go back and try again."

Again, thanks; my "TG/TS/AG Resources" bookmark folder is becoming larger every day.

Hmm... I don't know why they're not working. I'll post them again in a different format and we'll see if they work now. But regardless, if you highlight the link and then copy it and paste it into your web browser, it should still get you there.

OK, Sable,

I checked Liam's links and they all worked for me.

Good sites Liam!

If they don't work for you , I think that it is a browser problem.

Love ya,

Sally
