Yeah while I don't really like the idea of the punishment for a crime be determind by what the person was thinking. I mean you've gotta get these people out of our society, they kill us, literally, rape and beat us to death.

Well I'm sure they don't arrest everyone that says "I'm going to kill [blank]. It's fairly easy to tell when someone is just venting, joking, or means it. But this banger was bearing down on her door screaming it at the top of his lungs, probably beating on the door at the same time. Not to mention he was caught plotting the crime and was constantly harassing Nova. Most of the time hate crimes like this escalate so in this case yes just him uttering the threat should defiantly be enough.

Maybe thats what was bothering April about the situation and if so April, you have to have a little more faith that there are soe decent people out there in this world.

I get at least one death threat a month. Last one was a complete stranger when I went for a coffee after my laser on Friday. I don't let these people get to me any more, though that's one coffee selling place I will never go to again.

CAUTION

This is an old topic!

The member mentioned was very active at that time [and is still active here] - we had some working through this topic - and everyone was satisfied.

PLEASE

The topic is VERY IMPORTANT - I approved these newer posts because of that. BUT I suggest we don't approach anything on a personal level that is taken somewhat out of context.

I noticed it was necro'd but I figure the same, it was something worth commenting on. You could make a new topic tho, just on the general subject of death threats and hate crimes and move these new posts across.

Sadly I didn't. That will teach me to look at the date a comment was posted before chiming in.

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you Nova, you did the right thing though and to put a restraining order against him. Please be careful and protect yourself. I'm thinking of carrying mace with me pretty soon, just for added protection.

Today I received a death threat from the guy who lives across the hall. right now he's in jail.

This morning I heard sweeping sounds outside my door. I opened the door to see what was going on. He was standing there with a broom and a giant pile of trash by my door. He says "what the ---- are you looking at." I said, "don't leave your mess by my door this time." I closed the door. He yelled, "---- you, I'm gonna come through that door and take your stuff and break it, and then I'm gonna put you in your coffin." He screamed these threats several more times. I called the police. When they were talking to him, he tried denying making threats, but another neighbor had heard him. while he was talking to the police he kept referring to me as "that queer", and "he" and "him", and then they cuffed him and put him in jail.

I immediately filed a petition for a restraining order and tomorrow the judge's signed order will be ready. The building manager said he'll have to move out when I get the restraining order. The police said he will probably be charged with a hate crime as well.

I am so upset I feel like throwing up. I have a headache.

You are so lucky. The police here think every word I utter is a lie because I'm trans. I'm so glad your neighbor stood by you.

Well -I hesitated to bring up guns as defense. Now that I have I must add this:

If you carry a gun, if you are threatened and want to use it, you MUST pull it out and shoot to kill - no warning, no posturing, no threatning - pull it out, aim for the center of the chest and pull the trigger - one motion, no hesitation.

If you hesitate, it may end up with YOU as the dead person. Pulling a gun on 'some' people only enrages them and they in turn kill you and claim self defense.

If you cannot kill a person like that - do not carry a gun, it is too dangerous.

And if you are carying a revolver, and it is double action (pulling the trigger advances the cylinder) keep an empty chamber under the hammer, but the rest of the cylinder full. This is for safety. Revolvers do not have a safety lever. You will draw, and pull the trigger. Be familiar with this.

If you are carrying an automatic (no cylinder) it is a harder gun to use. It is self loading from a clip in the handle. You cannot safely carry this kind of weapon with a round in the chamber and the safety on. It will be too likely to accidently go off. Therefore you must draw, point and fire. You cannot draw and shoot. Also many people point and shoot, nothing, the safety lever is on. Be familiar with this, or a thug will take it away from you, turn off the safety and kill you.

And again - shot to kill - never threaten - point and shoot quickly. You can explain what happened later, when you are alive and your assailent is dead. Remember, he came at you - and forfitted his right to not get killed.

I mean, he will 'possibly' kill you? You don't want to wait to find out - you just want to live.

So there is a heavy reponsibility when carrying a gun. All play and kidding is gone. You are suddenly armed and dangerous.

PLEASE be careful...

Lizzy

Lizzy,

You nailed it right on the head! Guns and useing them are not for the faint of heart. Guns are deadly weapons, they are made to kill people. And, if you've got a mad-man coming at you, you'd better well pull that trigger before he can get ahold of you.

As my Dad used to say, " Never pull a gun on someone unless you have the full intention of useing it". I've had a gun pulled on me several times and Thank God, I'm still alive to talk about it.

Yeah, he's been harassing me for almost 10 months. I've never done anything to him. I never tried to come on to him. I've complained to the manager numerous times and had him written up but nothing was done. I think everybody is afraid of him--he sells crack and cooks it up in the community kitchen. I called the police on him once before, maybe that's why he harasses me. He always wears a blue mammy scarf so maybe he's in a gang? He has been dumping trash outside my door for months. Other tenants have seen him do it, He even got caught on camera, but the management always told me to ignore him and he'll leave me alone then !

This sounds soooo familiar- I live on the fourth floor of our building and the coulpe that lives on the first floor are constantly giving me a hard time.

He tells everyone that I'm queerafying myself and makes up stories about me and had someone steal some property of mine.

She uses every chance she can to start a fight with me or my mother- my mother is in the apt. next door to me.

Both of them are in very poor health and use that to their advantage. They have given several people in this building an extremely hard time,

and if you turn them in to the manager they retalliate. I was just to the manager again today about them.

I wish there was a way to get the message across to them to just lay off and stay away. They suffer from a permenant brain malfuction.

I wish you all the luck in the word on your endevers.

Luv Ya

Regina Renea

I saw this concert in which it is said that the famous phrase of Jon Landau "I saw the future of rock and roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen" comes from that night. By the way Bruce opened for Bonnie Raitt that night and she was the better performer . . . just sayin'.

Astronomy and astrophotography.  I have done a few public presentations on the subject and could most likely wing it for an hour without putting you to sleep.   On the other hand if you need a sleeping pill, I could also talk for an hour about flying and you'd be out cold.

Please consider joining us, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what the meetings are like. I've learned so much, had so much fun and gained confidence in myself just by being a part of this amazing group of people. It's a low key, no pressure, non-judgmental chance to just be among people who are supportive, understanding and affirming of each other.    I'm travelling out of state and still planning on dropping in for awhile.    Come see what it's like!!

Thank you, Susan!! It was such an amazing experience for me. I can't remember if I even talked about it on a Zoom meeting.   Here is the link to the post I made about it. And, again, thank you for helping to give me the courage to do it.

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.
