Should I tell her?

Who am I?

Recommended Posts

I have been questioning my gender and I don't know if I should tell my Mum. I don't know if she knows that something's going on. I've tried to be more masculine to experiment with my gender to see if I'm a boy or not, but it seems to upset her. She says I'm a beautiful girl and I should try to look like a beautiful girl. She lives my girly hair, and says it will break her heart if I cut it short. I want to be myself but I also don't want to break her heart.

She's not exactly transphobic (she doesn't really care) but I don't think she fully understands trangenderism and she believes binding gives you cancer ?. I don't know if I should wait until I'm sure of my gender, since how can I expect her to understand how I feel if I don't? However, if she knows, I may be able to experiment more.

What do you guys think I should do?

You have to do what's best for you ultimately. My suggestion would be to bring up the topic of trans people without having the focus be on you to test the waters. To see what her thoughts are on trans people. Depending on her response, then talk to her about your own personal feelings about trying to figure out what your own gender is. It can take a long time to figure everything out if you're not able to explore. So I hope things go well for you.
