Rib pain

I’ve been having rib pain and feeling like I’m going to throw up every time I put on my binder. My ribs started hurting about a week ago really badly and I stopped putting it on for that week. What should I do?

Alexander,

I'm so sorry to hear that you are experiencing pain. I'm not a medical professional so I can't give any medical advice. That being said, I did some research and found a post that might give you some guidance. The article does a good job of explaining the anatomy of the torso and possible complications of binding. If possible, I recommend seeing a doctor. I'm a firm believer that pain is the body's way of telling us that something is wrong. The most important thing is to make sure that you are safe and healthy!

This is an issue with binders.  They can cause rib and/or breast pain if worn too tightly or for too long.   Give your body a rest as you have been doing.  If it continues I would see your doctor.

I wear binders, and have never had this issue. In saying that, I wear mine for only 8hrs a day (with a rest day), and made 100% sure it is the right size. I also only wear GC2B ones.

If you don't mind...

How long are you usually wearing it for?

And are you sure it's the right size?

Rib pain is serious, and should not be ignored, or accepted as the norm. A binder that's too tight, or worn for too long, can cause you to develop chest anomolies and breathing issues.

And especially when you consider that if it continues you can end up not being ellegible for top surgery in the future (not sure if your considering it, but you should definately be aware).

I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but it's a real risk when your binder is causing you a lot of pain.
