Told parents about upcoming changes

My parents just got back from a 2-week vacation. They wanted to know how my appointment with the Endocrinologist went. I told them about the upcoming T shots, the changes to expect, and the medical conditions this approach is supposed to be helping, but I still can't tell them I'm Trans. Just keeping things medical and leaving out the transitional verbage, my mother was totally overwhelmed and my dad just sat silent. They are supportive as long as I keep things in the medical realm and leave my gender preferences out of it, but wondering how long I can keep this pretense up. They HAVE to suspect something at this point, but no one is asking questions yet. Hoping they can wait until I move out, but if not, things will get pretty awkward pretty quickly. I don't think my uber-religious parents can handle having a transgender child...I'm just glad they're supportive with the medical issues angle!

Hi Ronin,

My guess is that your parents probably suspect more than they let on. It may not go so badly as you fear. My oldest sister is very religious and I feared she would be the most likely one I would have trouble with. But she has been very accepting of me. We never really know what there reaction will be. Just prepare to give them time.

Lots of love,

Good luck with this.  If you are seeing a therapist they might help with explaining things to your parents to help them find acceptance.  Hopefully they will find a way forward with love as you also move on.

Hugs,

Good luck with your transition.

Maybe you ought to think about investing in a journal, so you can write out your thoughts about all this. It's not good to let these things fester beneath the surface for too long. Also I agree with others who said your parents probably suspect more than they let on. They are probably just looking for a way to cope.
