Ahh, Piper has reminded me that the server is set to make a daily backup which does put the server under stress and load, for a couple of hours a day, there is a LOT to back up, but to not do so would be very irresponsible of me.

If those with the slowest connections would like Piper to explore further, coould you please PM me with your geo location and ISP name I can pass this info on to Piper and she can chase it up further upstream. Thanks.

I was wondering if it was just me, the page or the server. I'm a software developer myself so I started thinking through the process to see if there was something I could figure out before reporting it. But you already know what's up, so thanks for mentioning it. We appreciate all you do to provide us this site and all the great relationships we have forged here. Bless you @Petra Jane❤️

The last few days have been very sluggish on this site but today  2/5 21 the site would open but nothing would load.

Click to read comments and nothing leave the site open go to another browser and look at other sites with no problems.

5 mins or so come back here and I can see the comments but when I click on to comment it locks up again.

I use firefox on my PC btw for this site and use microsoft edge for my other browser. ME is consistently lousy.

Chrome is even worse and I get more spam and junk.

Yes, there was a site outage today for a couple of hours.  it seems OK now.  @Petra Janewill look into it tomorrow (U.K. time) I'm sure.

Well, I have spoken to Piper again this morning and she has found an issue. Apparently the daily backup processes got themselves into a bit of a muddle and simply kept running until she was able to hard re-set them.

Load speed certainly seems to have improved since, for me at least.

There is even the offer of a server upgrade with better performance a little way down the line, so things should speed up even more.

Yes, it's very sluggish for me too. Hopefully, it's nothing serious.

Earlier today when I tried to log on ia red banner said my account had been locked.

I thought oh no did I do something wrong ?

I just timed it, and it took approx. 90 seconds to load.  It took even longer to save.

It's been getting progressively worse for me. Minutes for me between pages or posting. I either decided to try again later or keep trying to refresh and reload back into the site.

Sites been down for me until just now. I’m dreading Piper telling me we need to do something drastic like prune the database or something like that. All I can suggest is please be patient, the server is in line for an upgrade in the next couple of weeks, hopefully.

Ah...that explains a lot. ?Oy... upgrades, hopefully it solves the issues.

There is one other thing I could try, not something I'm too confident would help though.

That would be to archive older Topics, this would result in them being viewable, but non-replyable. The snag is, there are over 73,000 TOPICS on the forums, limiting the archive to those topics that have no posts for a year or more only would result in less than 1% being archived, so not much of a saving. Making it six months since a reply was posted makes it 3%, around 2,500 topics archived.

Not much of a saving in either case I fear.

What's weird is that it varies day to day (and hour to hour) and it happened all of a sudden. I think the problem is more likely to be server side or the result of a poorly-coded patch. For example, it was a little sluggish yesterday, but I'm getting timeout errors when I post this morning. Two days ago it was pretty responsive. If our provider is doing hardware upgrades it could EASILY have to do with their architecture while they hot-swap equipment.

Hugs!

One of the timeout errors I got today had this advice:

If you're the owner of this website:

The connection to the origin web server was made, but the origin web server timed out before responding. The likely cause is an overloaded background task, database or application, stressing the resources on your web server. To resolve, please work with your hosting provider or web development team to free up resources for your database or overloaded application. Additional troubleshooting information here.

Oddly enough, today it seems much faster.  Like others have said, it varies one day or one hour to the next.

It loads pretty slow for me as well.  I have gotten pop-ups that warn that the page is using a lot of energy.  I've not seen that on other sites.

But I don't want to complain, this place is a lifesaver for me.

I agree. Very, very slow. It's become unusable.

It's not consistent.

I agree.  It goes from loading in a couple seconds to the server timing out in the same session.

I do not know if anyone else is having this issue but I have noticed that my page response times seem to be getting longer and longer so I thought I would ask,

is this happening to anyone else?

Yes me to Dee. Its been like it for a few weeks. But It would seem mine does load just a tiny bit quicker than some users above but still snails pace slow.

On the plus side. who remembers dial up?? It isnt as bad as that.

No one seemed to pay attention to me other than a young woman who complimented me on my skirt and an older gentleman who smiled at me as we passed each other.

Wow, I guess it’s the dat to be in trouble.  I’ve been hit twice by the ASM today and it’s my day off.  Why didn’t you, followed latter with a where is the.  Made me realize that I do t want to continue working long enough to pay for it. I guess I’ll just to have to stick with my 20 year old car for now.   I suppose sooner or later only one of us won’t be able to drive anymore.  Since I am older you might think it would be me but at this time i am the one that does all the driving except when she goes to church or the store when I’m at work.  She hasn’t driven anywhere since February and hasn’t driven more than 10 miles in perhaps a year.  Yet the “good” car was purchased for her not for me because she couldn’t drive the Jeep which we bought strictly for her because she wanted it.  But it turned out I was the one that really liked it.  Can’t win.

Had one like that one time that would bite you on occasion.  Got rid of that thing quickly.

Good morning :)   I have coffee today, but the cup keeps leaking (I guess the cap isn't able to fully seal or something), so I keep having to wipe up the sides lol   Almost finished all my missing work for school, which means if I do a bit more work, I should be out of trouble with my parents (not even that bad of trouble compared to when I was younger, more just an annoyance haha)

Sending good thoughts for you, Raine.

Good morning 😘   Finished packing up my kitchen and pantry for fumigation today. I also modified my backpack to make it day-centre compliant.  I was able to get almost 2 hrs sleep last night, so I'll survive. 😑

I'll be going to some Pride events as a spectator.  Maybe marching in a parade if they have open participation.    The event we'd prefer to go to is held in a small town with a population of less than 600.  They have a parade through all three blocks of their downtown area.  Unfortunately, this year it is on the same day as a memorial service for a friend who passed away this winter, so we'll have to miss it.  So our second choice is a larger town, population about 9000, a bit farther away.    And we are keeping our eyes open for other events in the general area as they are announced.   I dress a bit flashier than normal, with some trans bling, such as rainbow or trans flag earrings, a trans symbol pendant, and a handheld trans flag to wave.  Political sentiment is turning against us, but public sentiment here is still strongly on our side, so getting out and showing the flag, both literally and figuratively, is important.

I had that going on with my last two partners who were 20 years older than me.  One of them looked older for her age as well.  I remember a couple times being in the grocery store a decade ago and having people ask "can I help you ladies with something?" and then I'd turn around with my red beard.  Well before I started transitioning, but my partner knew I was trans back then.   I struggle with this as well.  My music and political career can have a masculine edge to it that I don't like.  It's been really frustrating lately.  I don't like pushing myself on others or telling people what to do.  I've been running a website for 25 years and have virtually never tried to promote it or even look at any analytics.  I don't want to push it on anyone.  I put what I have on it and make it publicly available.  It's part of my production process.  It keeps me sane and if someone else can find it useful, then I'm happy to share.

I'm curious, but then if I am true to myself, I have a hard time being in crowds.  I love hearing great music, but being in an audience is such a turnoff for me that I don't go to concerts or bars.  I'm just very much a producer.  I actually like doing the dishes more than going to concerts because it's an active thing.
