I came across this new gem of a movie and thought I’d share it with you all. It’s an inspiring heartwarming story that will leave you with a smile and a maybe tear. This transgender related movie is called Palmer (2021) and it’s an tv+ exclusive so it may be difficult for some to see for awhile. Justine Timberlake (Palmer) is so good in this and young Sam played by Ryder Allen is spectacular. Ryder and Timberlake have great chemistry in this movie.

Here’s the Plot…

A bullied young non binary child lives with a drug addicted Mother and an abusive boyfriend. Palmer (Justin Timberlake) recently released from prison after serving 12 years for attempted murder, moves in with his Grandmother and rediscovers his heart in the process of learning to accept his past and a new way of being in the world.

Hope those of you that have a way to watch it, love it as much as I did.

I just saw this movie! Loved it!

I am so glad you enjoyed it. It’s rare to see a movie with one of the main characters being a transgender individual with a good plot and a happy ending. It was done well.

I finally watched this whole movie instead of leaping to the end—I can't stand violence in a story about a child. But I had to trust it, trust myself. I was better for having seen it all in this case. Life can be painful, yet good things can happen.

@Davie Glad you saw it to the end. It was to me a very realistic portrayal and I agree, it hurts to see any child hurt emotionally because of being transgender. It shows how even one person showing love and compassion can make a huge difference in a child’s life. The end had me teared up in a good way. I just wish more people could see it. It was only available on AppleTV+ when I saw it. I hope it gets into other mainstream platforms so I can recommend it to others I know.

My mother, who was an educator of teachers of English, told me that studies show that just one person is what's needed to make a child come out whole and good from an otherwise horrible situation.  Think poverty and being surrounded by horrible people.  As long as the child has that one person to count on, they come out OK -- Grace.

Violence and bullying are parts of almost all trans-girl stories that I've read, and I've read a LOT.  Before HRT, I could disassociate and get through those parts without really feeling the impact, but now I have to feel it, which was my goal with HRT anyway.  But it seems that for children who know their identity as a child, it's pretty rough.  Even if the roughness is only typical boy interaction or father-"son" interaction.  "male" interaction is still emotionally difficult for a trans girl, even if its not explicit abuse.  Or implicit abuse because dad is trying to beat the girl out of her.  My step-father was just straight out abusive and I embraced the male role to mitigate that; I hid the emotions deep inside.

Thanks for sharing that @GraceHand @Susan R.

Yes, a single bit of light can clear the whole room sometimes.

When I was young my best friend said this to me and it made a huge difference:

"You know, your father is "bleeping" nuts!" That took me out of my isolation with my fears because it made them real. This movie did the same.

Thank you for sharing, @Mealaini, and welcome.    I appreciate your description of IFS and your book recommendation. I have a few close friends who are very enthusiastic about IFS and my therapist is incorporating some of those elements into my therapy.    -Timi

Leg hair.  Shaving it was a surprisingly big decision.  (Not as big as the beard tho)  After I did it a few times, it's never really grown back.  Haven't shaved them in a couple of years and you'd never know it.  A daughter living with me doesn't shave hers, and she is much furrier than I ever was.     I don't exactly hate my living as a guy in the past.  TBH, I was never quite there anyway.  But I just dropped it.  I live full time fem, and it would bother me a lot to go back to being a guy.  But I don't have to appease family or an employer.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Marriage complicates things.  We think we know someone… but then we don't. My ex supports me, but we're certainly not married.  She actually took me out for dinner a couple days ago. But if I said I didn't miss her it would be a lie.  That part is still hard. The hard truth is I had to get away from her, to have the freedom to find myself. Maybe it won't be that way for y'all.

Kymmie, it's hard to think of her as an ally when she's still re-posting anti-trans information. On the flip side my wife is supportive of everyone else in the LGBTQIA community, and reluctantly supporting me.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I'm sorry you and so many others in the military, were assaulted and bullied, just for being who you are. I'm glad that you've seen your old therapist and seem to be better since 2001.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

@Sally Stone This is a great thread and resonates with me as well. Please keep it going!   +1 on leg hair. Mine basically stopped growing on its own in my early 30s (cause unknown), but I prefer the look. Was never comfortable with body hair.
