Another Project to Keep Me Busy

Thank you.

My thoughts are getting a bit crowded lately. So many things on the go at once.

And I felt I'm rushing doing all these projects rather than taking my time so I'm not so stressed out.

I know I'll be able to do this once I've fully transitioned and during I just need to relax and take it easy.

Though I haven't before  ... hmmm.

Anyhow work is going crazy at the moment, weeks of fieldwork and reports needing to be done asap.

And I'm trying to organise getting the front house painted after having new windows installed to replace the old rotten ones.

Feels all too much at the moment, however I just keep doing stuff, one step at a time.

It would be nice to get a decent night's sleep though.

Never mind me, stay safe everyone.

I know how my projects sometimes seem to take on a life of their own.  They demand my attention trying to take my focus away from the routine workaround the farm and home.  Letting go can be difficult but by remembering that they will be done in time and dropping them instead of carrying all that extra worry.  I try to "drop the rock", trying not to hit my toe or the project i have to set aside.  The emphasis here is on the "try" in the previous sentence.

I seem to be the most productive when the plate is full.  Remember to slow down and enjoy the things you do for fun.  Get that benefit of savoring your time with them.  The house type projects are like work.  They need to be done and I try not to get emotional over them.

Yay .. finally got the masking tape and cream paint to try and redo the binding strip around the top of the guitar.

I have been going crazy on the speaker cabinet while I waited to afford the paint and tape.

Aaaargh ... I get so focused and forget about reality.

It was partly things weighing on my mind.

As I mentioned in another post I've done something about it so I can move forward.

Thank you all for the support and wonder comments it does keep me grounded.

Not much to report on the projects.

I have started spraying the clear after finishing the black and sides and cream sudo binding strip (since you might remember i stuffed the real stuff up).

Also got the waterslide transfer for the neck. So i was able to spray the head and sand a nice spot of the transfer to go.

Now the clear coats are going on the headstock as well.

Maybe in a few weeks it will all be dry and cured enough to do the first finishing sand. There will still be another couple of clear coats to go on after that and then the final sand and polish.

The finishing part is so tedious and so frustrating, much like transitioning 😉

I can commiserate about the tediousness of the last mile when doing projects.  Progress seems to be slow.  But keep faith and don't rush it.  It will look great.

I am amazed you are getting as much done as you are as you come out at work and keep up with life.

So been working on stuff, clearing up the garden and getting ready for green waste day.

In between work and house I managed to get my Marshall 1960A tribute on its wheels. Next is to fit the rear panel sand center brace.

The guitar is still waiting for the clear coats to cure before I can start sanding.

I'm also having a conundrum trying to figure out what amp I can use for the bass and the cabinet. I have a really really cheap 15W guitar combo that I was going to try to start with though I suspect running a bass through it might not work terribly well.

Either a dedicated amp head like the TC Electronic BAM200 or a Fender Rumble combo either the Studio 40 or LT25.

Any ways I hope you are all well.

Good afternoon. I have been going a bit stir crazy here, what with having to isolate waiting for COVID PCR test to come back (it turned out negative, so i just had a damned cold).

Well as every girl knows to the best way to feel better is retail therapy.

So apart from some nice cardies (cardigans to more proper English speakers 🤣) I went on a music binge.

As some of you may have seen I'm building a bass guitar and 4x10 speaker cabinet.

WELL it turns out the 15W practice amp I modified with an external speaker plug won't run the 4x10. SO i needed to find a way to connect my cabinet (not finished yet) to the guitar (not finished yet).

Thus I now have a 500W BQ500 amplifier. And oops a Behringer amp modelling pedal. And an octave pedal. And sundry cables. Oh and I accidentally bought a cheap practice bass, oops.

Do I feel better ? Yes a little, throat doesn't feel full of razorblades, head still feels woozy. Other than that okayish.

I hope everyone else is feeling okay.

Lotsa hugs

Robyn

Why can't I leave well alone ?

Ordered a Seymour Duncan bridge pickup as it was on special. Now we wait for the neck pickup to be on special .. LOL.

After listening to SO many Youtube videos I also ordered a set of flatwound Super Slinkys for the bass.

Also having a rest today. Throat is still like swallowing razor-blades and fingers are a bit sore from practicing.

How long does it take to grow callouses for playing bass !?

No picture to show, however the speaker cabinet baffle has been covered with cloth and the logo fitted. It went well considering I'd never done that before.

Sorry to read about your throat.  I hope you get well soon.  That P/U sounds cool.  I like flat wound strings.  They have a warm sound to them.  As to callouses I don't play enough plus I use a pick every so often.

Get well,

Well its Sunday morning here. I got up early so I feel I need a nanna nap about now. So of course I'm posting ... LOL

An update on the Hoffy. Waiting on some fret oil before I string it. I have installed the pickups, tailpiece and saddle. I still have to finish up the controls. So a week or two should see it finished. I still can't play bass ... yet ;)

The solid state amp and valve amp I'm building are on hold, due to needing to buy a new water heater and the money has to come from somewhere. Sadly its my music fund.

Anyhow the speaker cabinet is progressing. Doesn't the final finishing take the longest. Filler, primer then sand. Find more places that need filler then prime again. And round and round. That's nearly done so I will be able to cover it not with Tolex as I couldn't afford it so I will use marine vinyl. It has the same pattern just a little bit thicker.

For the musicians amongst us I have bought and received my new pickups, saddle, bridge and flatwound strings for the bass I bought. So I can get the Motown sound. Being a jazz bass and not a P bass should make a huge amount of difference ... I hope.

Pictures will be forthcoming when I get the Hoffy strung up :D

So I hope you all are keeping safe and well.

I can fully understand the nap time thing!  Some days it's hard to resist.🥱

Great progress on the Bass. It's going to sound cool.  Sorry about the water heater but I can certainly relate to that happening at the worse times.

Cheers,

Jani

At the start of May, finally managed to shake the sore throat.

The water heater is hanging in there, so saving some extra monies so I can get the plumber to install instead of having to do it myself.

And so we are on the final stretch with speaker cabinet .. I hope.

My first ever try at fitting grill cloth, came out okay. The picture really doesn't do it justice. It really does look like the old speaker grille on my parents 3-in-1 stereo from the 70s. Gives me a nice nostalgic feeling, still miss my dad.

The last picture is of the final primer coat to protect the MDF and chipboard from moisture.

Nearly time to add the vinyl covering and white piping around the inside of the front opening.

Wish me luck.

Hello everyone,

Today I present the final but one post for this project. The Hoffy is complete and plays. Surprised me as well :D

The water-slide decal on the head stock came out very lovely, as did the oiling of the fret-board. I was a bit nervous about the final wiring I need not have been. It came out lovely, and sounds as funky as a real Hofner Bass. The dry transfer lettering was a bit of a pain. It keeps the vintage look though with its wonky letters and missing bits.

I am super happy with the way it has turned out and everyone who has been able to see in person and play it thinks so as well. I'm still trying to figure a way to record a sample for you all. That will be the final for the project.

I will add another post when i finally finish the 4x10 cabinet. Its been put on hold until the cold weather has gone so wrapping the outer cabinet glue doesn't need so much artificial heat to get it to cure.

I bought a Fender Rumble LT25 to play my basses through until the cabinet is finished.

Anyhow, stay warm/cool wherever in the world you are.

Hugs Robyn

Absolutely. Being able to encourage, to help, others is so empowering. I've been helped by so many people over the years, I love being able to pay it forward.

Good morning, everyone!!   A busy day ahead for me - need to cut the grass and then pick up the clippings. The grass grows so quickly this time of year. I cut almost 7 acres so that will take up most of my day. At least I can get some sun on my legs and arms!!   Time for another cup of coffee as I catch up here.   Enjoy this beautiful day we've been given.

I started shaving my legs years ago - I started getting an occasional mild contact rash on my shins. That became my excuse to shave them for both me and my wife. Over time, the rash didn't expand...but my shaving did. Full legs....groin......chest......and finally my arms. Keeping the rash at bay was my excuse until I came out to my wife. Now I typically do a full shave on Sunday mornings. The hair is lighter but I just feel better with it gone - it helps with the dysphoria and dysmorphia. I will also typically do a chest touch-up mid week since I notice the growth more there.   I wish someone would invent a pill that would stop hair growth everywhere except on your head.

Good morning.   im not sure where the time went.  I had a decent nights sleep,  didn’t  tell Alexa to let me sleep another 5 minutes,  I didn’t do anything extra but it’s almost time to leave and I just got here.  Definitely only a one cup morning.    I have the overhead console out of the Ford. It needed some repairs with toothpicks and glue.  Been sitting all night t for the glue to harden. I’m always to impatient with glue but not this time.  I want it to hold. Ok the next owner won’t be able to change the lightbulbs however in my defense, the are led so they will likely still work when the car goes to the salvage yard.   gotta go. Not as much on my plate at work today but it’s always busy.   Willow

Yes, my programmer friends and I think that antivirus software is a virus.  It's constantly searching your system and slowing it down.  If you install your own OS and software on your machine, and you make backups of your personal files, then you can recover from viruses in an hour or two.  My computer is 10+ years old and is working as good as the first day I had it.   As long as my computer is doing what I want it to do, I don't care if someone is spying on my system.

If you get a ticket, always say not guilty and go to court. Much of the time, the officer will not show up, and often the district attorney or the judge will not want to take the time. They ticket harvest because most people just agree to the fine and send them a check by mail.   If you are not a commercial driver, Most states also have a ticket forgiveness program. You take a little easy Driver's Ed Course, and it doesn't go on your record or increase your insurance prices. Explore your options!

Shaving my legs (very early on) was the first BIG STEP in my self-affirmation.  It also felt Real and Natural ... Finally (after all my years with fairly hairy legs). My wife was shocked but I think she thought it was 'OK' as long as didn't go any farther ... well that wasn't going to happen.  It was actually Step 1 of many to follow.  I did feel the need to hide it from others but eventually didn't care.  And, men shaving their legs is much more common these days. Home IPL (laser) made the hair removal permanent over the course of a year or so.  Whatever was leftover has been reduced to peach-fuzz by HRT. I don't deny or reject all my years living in the realm of cis-males ... it was part of my Journey to get to where I am today.  But since committing to HRT and living in an environment and community that supports my transition, I find it difficult to go back into Boy-mode.  The times that I do have to do that ... I can feel the dysphoria rising up again.  No going back ... at this point.

Congratulations @EasyE on your continued progress! I think it was about 6 - 8 weeks for me that I truly started to notice (and feel!) the changes.  They were not enormous (no pun intended) but I could notice my breasts were starting to plump up and my hips also.    fyi - I talked to my Provider a couple of days ago and based on recent labs agreed that I could start progesterone.  I did a LOT of research and after expressing any concerns with my Provider we both felt confident in starting.  I have been almost a full year of estradiol and I think my breast and other body changes have started to settle down.  Hoping the 'P' will give them another jump start. Thank you for sharing your progress.  I think you're going to be Happy with with the next couple of months brings

I have this one particular antivirus with the VPN, I thought I paid for everything to be activated, but it turns out to be I have basic protection and they want more money from me to turn it on. I wished the store salesperson told me this soon, I would have brought something else that has everything in it, not half protection missing lol

Hi @Mealaini - nice to meet you and Welcome! You have an important story and experience to share so I am happy you are open and willing to do that.  Also, I want you to know that this Forum was a very important part of my own Self-Acceptance and helped me navigate both my Progress and the Coming Out process to my wife, kids, and other family/friends.   It's not an easy Journey - sometimes it can seem slow and painful - but for most of us here, it's one that is essential to our Well Being.  I hope you have a similar experience as myself as you connect with others on this Forum and gain the benefit our each individual Experience and our Shared Humanity. Deep breaths ... One step at a time

It seems to me that antivirus software often acts like a virus.  McAfee is really tough to get rid of.  I got a laptop a few years ago that had it pre-installed.  Didn't want it, and the process to cut out every last piece of it took a long time.    As for VPNs, check out Ultrasurf: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrasurf   It may not be the best, but it is free and seems to bypass many government restrictions.  Its one of the few tools in GF's toolbox that I actually understand how to use.  As in...click the button!

Hi Thea, I can relate to that, to this day I find video games that has female role characters in them, the ones that takes leadership.

Divorce sux.  My husband has an ex-wife somewhere...far, far away.  I guess she turned into somebody completely different right after the marriage, and she divorced him after a couple of years.    My partner (his "Wife #1) married him pretty soon after that divorce, and I guess he kind of missed her back then, but that fades with time.  I wonder... is it harder to stay in contact after divorce, or harder to cut off all contact completely?    I was very clear with my GF when we got together years ago.... to choose me is to keep me forever, as a breakup (and heartbreak) would probably be fatal.  I told my husband and other partners the same thing.  Once I've made my nest, don't push me out of it.  I will curl up in a corner and make myself very heavy and hard to grab   Even GF has never said she wanted to get rid of me, although she gets frustrated with me sometimes.  I'm pretty sure I'm safe here.

Odd that this topic showed up today. With the warmer weather approaching, I decided to do something about my legs. When I was in my twenties, my legs were quite hairy, but have become less hirsute as I age. I decided to mow the hair with my manscaping device to make eventual shaving less messy. This made me realize that due to a lack of limberness and practice, shaving might be a major undertaking, so today I applied depilatory from mid-thighs to my ankles (no hair on feet, fortunately). The odor wasn't as unpleasant as I expected (didn't use a common store brand*), and the results were gratifying. I'll try it on my chest next.   *I'm not sure whether mentioning product names is allowed – think of a musical by Lerner and Loewe.
