I'm so glad I found this thread.  I am also a musician, primarily instrumental not so much vocal myself.  I do a little bit of writing and I have a project that is focused on my experiences as trans that I recently started.  Maybe as I make progress with it I'll start a separate thread but here's a sample clip if anyone might be interested.  It's still rather rough, though.

@Tory Aoi Very nice piece Tory, melodically really picks up around 1 minute juncture and carries nicely to the end. Excellent ideas on the keys, I enjoyed listening....

I’m not a musician in any sense of the word. I played drums throughout my high school years at a friend’s house. My parents were always encouraging us kids to play an instrument but I was only interested in percussion and specifically drums.  I asked them if they would allow me to buy a drum set. They said, yes, as long as you don’t play it after dinner time (~6pm). My senior year, I saved up and spent $500 on a used Pearl drum set a friend had which barely fit in my bedroom. I played it whenever I could prior to my father coming home from work. He would always come home and have a few drinks before dinner. One day he came home an hour early and walked into my room. I stopped and asked him if it’s ok to continue to play. He said, “Oh sure. You play them pretty good.“  He goes upstairs to have his drinks and I start to play again. Three mins. later (no joke), he screams at the top of his lungs...louder than my drums, “Will you turn that  xxxx off!?!”

Needless to say, I sold them for $300 the next week and I’ve never played since...lol

Susan R?

You should start playing again. It’s a great way to let your frustrations out and burn calories...lol

I know a mtf drummer who I worked with for ten years.  She's stealth for many years though, pretty sure she doesn't do sites like this.

ya never know, giggling in the background could be heard....?

Wouldn't put it past her!!

However she changed before the internet, and doesn't even use text on her phone.  Perfect cover for a social media spy...

I played bass with her on over 1000 all-nighters.   I silently knew her status the whole time, because of someone in our past, but she never came out to me until after I told her I was trans 5 yrs ago.  She was surprised about me.

That sounds great.  I’m currently looking for a Band. I would love to audition. I’m from Jersey though, where are you located?

I’ve considered it many times since. I’ve had a few opportunities to play also but we live in a two bedroom and right now the second bedroom where I’d love to put a drum set is currently our media/computer/reading room. If we ever ditch that purpose for the room, I might be able to bribe my wife..somehow! LOL I don’t see it happening anytime soon though. My life is busy enough right now but if I had the room...who knows?

Oh, that’s too bad. I’m lucky I have a finished basement I can play in. It’s funny , my wife is very tolerant and supportive of my music but not my transitioning.... I guess you can’t have everything.. lol

I have been playing drums for about 350 years. I never took lessons. I never played in a band either. I have more beats than I can know what to do with. I tried jamming with people but, it very rarely was enjoyable. I am not good with structure. I just play for me and that has become a rare occasion at best. I guess my music is not band worthy. We can't all be in the band.:dunno:

Years ago as a teen when I had a drum set I played for me too.  Once I tried to play with others and froze up.  I wasn't good with structure either!   Oh well...

Ego's tend to be the biggest problem and having some not talented enough and hold the rest of band back (can be awkword) but the joy of playing and for me - the experience of live playing cannot be beat EXCEPT when I'm recording.

I never froze up. I just wasn't a drummer that liked being fenced in by other musicians. I could fall in line and make the beats they wanted. It's just that I was not content with that and became bored with the experience. The other people needed a drummer that would keep simple beats and set the pace. I like to make beats that do not maintain a certain time. It makes sense that it aggravated other people, I just do not conform too often.  :)  It was my choice not to play with other musicians. I am happy doing my thing all alone.

that is fair - it is very important to know one's self and live by it. Our current drummer keeps the "simple" beat and then somehow adds bits and flourishes in the spots open for it and he amazes me every time I play with him in his creativity within a band context.

I agree, some people’s egos hold the whole band back. Me and my brothers always got along playing and recording together. It’s bass players we had issues with. I think they know they are in demand.

Michellle - there are 3 bass players here that are willing to add bass to any tracks you might have need of recording via dropbox.

Great ,thanks Shay. I’ll keep that in mind. All I have to do is learn how to record via Dropbox... lol

If you can record wave files then you place them in dropbox (it's free) so we can copy and put into our recording software - add a part and put it in drop box and then you can take the part and add to your recording OR you could record your part and I could help set you up in dropbox and I'd be willingto add parts and mix and send back to you.

The name "Mississippi" comes from the Anishinabe tribe of Native Americans; the word means "Father of Waters."

frustration:  the frustration of creative instinct is a notorious evil of the machine age : the state or an instance of being frustrated. : a deep chronic sense or state of insecurity and dissatisfaction arising from unresolved problems or unfulfilled needs

That's horrible that they are blaming you for her presumption. I hate to say it but maybe they are looking for reasons.

I have no skin in the game here, apart from the signal that a re-elected Trump sends to likeminded politicians around the world, which would result in an indirect yet detrimental effect on many people here and elsewhere. So, hopefully what I write here can be used as a reference for how he, and American politics in general, is viewed from a country that is not directly involved.   It seems to me that politics is not taken seriously by enough people in America. Actually, specifically the USA (America can be anywhere from Prudhoe Bay to Panama to Patagonia). Electing a celebrity to high office just wouldn't happen here, let alone one who has overseen the bankruptcy of several of his business ventures and is embroiled in hush-money scandals. I remember during my teenage years when Reagen was elected; the main point of conjecture here was that he was just a B-grade actor. Equally laughable was Arnie as governor of California, although he turned out to be somewhat more socially progressive than most Republican politicians.    I simply cannot understand why the Dems cannot find a decent candidate. Biden has cognitive issues. Everyone expected Harris to step up by now, but no. Where's Jed Bartlet when you need him, lol! In my mind, if Martin Sheen threw his hat in the ring, he'd be elected in a heartbeat because many of you would actually believe that he was the real deal! Even though he's older than Biden!!!   Sorry if that sounds like I am trying to insult the intelligence of y'all. But y'all asked for it, by valuing celebrity over substance over the last five decades or so.    I have no doubt that Trump will win in November, even if he is in jail. His rusted-on supporters will just say, "Yep! That's our boy!!!"

Well said.    Although this so-called Project 2025 will not affect me directly in an immediate sense, it sends a signal to equivalent minded people and political parties around the world that it is okay to exclude minorities and indeed, to persecute them.   In my humble opinion, the far-right politicians know damn well that there is a very large cohort of less-than-intelligent people out there who are not capable of critical thinking and believe every skerrick of dog-whistling, fearmongering, "they're-out-there-to-get-you" rhetoric. Pander to their rural and village attitudes and you're on a winner!    Correcting them with logic and science won't work; they just double down and get louder with their petulance on full display.

Just waking up so I'm in my pajamas - blue/white madras shorts, a navy blue t-shirt and my sleep bra with sleep-rated breast forms.   Thank you @Susan R for telling us about your mastectomy bra and forms fitting experience before your BA surgery and how sleeping in the bra/forms helped with the dysphoria.    First, hearing about your courage to get fitted gave me the confidence and courage to go out in public.   And, second, finding sleep mastectomy bras and sleep-rated breast forms (I found a set on eBay for a good price) has been a tremendous boost to my feeling comfortable in my pajamas and nightgowns and tamping down my dysphoria and dysmorphia.
