Grants Kaine's wish. You are now a hairy beast lol :P

My epilator is a Braun Silk Epil 7. It has multiple heads including a shaving head and can be used wet. Was about 100 bucks and is leaps and bounds better than one I had before. The charge last a couple hours and it takes about 30 mins to recharge.

My old epilator was a horrible monster that took ages to clear a half leg and was horribly painful. My silk Epil is heavenly, half a leg takes a few mins and I barely feel anything anymore other than the tender areas like my knee caps.

My Emjoi Divine Hair Remover seems to break a lot of hairs. I'm going to invest in a more expensive one; I've heard good things about the Braun Silk Epil 7. I'm wondering if learning to make/warm wax (I can make sugar wax, but I don't have a wax warmer) will just be easier?

Following on from my earlier post - I have not got on well with the epilator on my legs. I get major problems with ingrowing hair and the recommended solution of exfoliating does not seem good for the appearance of my skin so I have gone back to shaving down to 0.5mm (basic hair trimmer without attachment). Not so good up close but no horrible spots :(.

Waxing seems the best solution on the backs of my hands but does not seem to work well on legs so I feel different parts of my body require different solutions.

I will look and feel good :)

I really wish I would have read this before shaving, my hair was long and thick, like 1/2-3/4" long. I do reccomend using an electric razor before you go at it with a regular one and do take your time, getting cut is almost a garuntee too. Very helpful thanks so much

I have the Braun Silk Epil 7 now. It takes a long time, but it gets the job done. It has a guard on it, but I actually started taking the guard off and just using it bare. The first time I used it, but I just kida looked at it like "Okay, this is what it's doing... it hurts, but as soon as its done with that area, its not gonna hurt anymore... in that area."

I do it once a week, and It doesn't hurt anymore. I mean, you feel it, but it doesn't make me wince at all. I can't do my armpits or bikini line though... yeoch! Just my legs, stomach and chest.

Raven Moon, my own reaction to the epilator was like that early on, but continued regular epilation plus HRT has changed my body hair sufficiently that I stopped having those sorts of skin reactions afterwards. You may want to give it a bit of time. Or you may want to chose some other method for dealing with that hair.

I can say now, being several months later, that using it on my arms doesn't make them brake out like that as much, but they still get a little red here and there, with a few unhappy follicles.

I realize it was a cheap unit, and it seems to not work as well on some areas. I have not been able to use it on my chest; It just doesn't seem to do much besides making it sore and red. And it seems to not work as well not that the hairs are shorter.

So I have taken to also shaving my arms, and the rest of me. I think it's time to start waxing.

My first time shaving my legs was a laborious event, hot bath, plenty of new razor blades and very small strokes before having to rinse. If only I'd thought of using my hair clippers first... Anyway, that was many moons ago and now I can do my legs in the shower in minutes. I have tried an epilator but I never got on with it, probably due to buying cheap one to try it out. I do shave all the rest, but since I am not living full time (yet), I tend to do my legs (almost) every day (can't even stand stubble on them). The rest usually gets done on the weekend with a nice bath and plenty of time, unless I'm going out. My wife bought some Nivea in-shower moisturizer which I'm now addicted to, it really makes your skin feel great.

The first time I shaved I cut my ankle pretty bad and bled into my socks for two days, so it was a bittersweet experience. Clumsy girl. But that was nowhere near enough to turn me off the practice. Being smooth is just too cathartic XD

Shaving your legs can be a great experience or a very difficult one. It is a task that I have mastered over the years and actually enjoy. I too have done it often enough that a few minutes in the shower is all it takes. The first few times can be tough but, once you get used to it, no worries. I don't do it as often in the winter, probably every 2-3 days. There is no finer feeling than freshly shaved legs, lotion, and a pair of tights. :D

Just would like to say. I use an epilator on the arms and legs to above the knees. And it hurts less with time. Great info here and I have not read it all. But if you need a very inexpensive way to shave. Use a safety razor like your grandfather or father use to use. I shave my legs when I don't feel like using the epilator. And I use a safety razor. A decent one on amazon it $28 and 110 Israel reds blades are $20 Did my research course hair like me and I have not changed the blade in over a week and have done my beard 3 times and my legs once. So I figure 1st year cost for razor and blades $50 2nd year $20. And if you want you can use the old school brush and cup with the special paste they sell to save more money. But I use women's shave gel with the brush and bowl or cup and you use less that way. And only have nicked myself a couple times. Close shave with less irritation. Better than any $20 blade. $20-$30 blade VS $4.50 blade that last longer and gives a better shave. And if course that's only till I get the hair removed for good.

I have been shaving my legs for years an after I have been on HRT for over seven months my skin is so much softer an smoother the hair on my legs is growing back thinner an softer an takes a lot longer to grow out an shaving my legs is so much better an easier now. When I'm in the shower I will put baby oil on my legs an go over them with a razor an I'm done all nice an smooth..

Can I say ouch! Ouch! OUCH!

Indeed... And I find the pain when doing the legs nothing compared to the arms (is it just me ?)

As I was epilating yesterday, I couldn't help but think : "My goodness, I wish I was a dude, I wouldn't have to voluntarily submit myself to THAT torture"... And then realized what I just thought and half-laughed half-cried before the irony of all this.

Anyway, for the smooth, hairless skin that I got after that... I can endure. Fortunately, my skin is not really sensitive, so I have little to no redness left, even after a three hours session.

I haven't tried the arms. My legs certainly are less painful than chest and stomach. The chest and stomach are awful.

I just tried shaving and then I'll try epilating, so maybe that'll help.

To keep you up to date - I now have a new shaver which cuts to 0.4mm so almost gone but not too low as to get problems with ingrowing hairs on my legs (at least almost none). My epilator failed so have tried shaving underarms which resulted in a nasty rash - I'm not sure why but I have just bought a replacement epilator so hopefully all will be OK. I also tried waxing underarms but that was not good either.

So currently I am shaving my legs, bottom, belly, chest arms and hands down to 0.4mm. Totally shaving my face and back and using an epilator under arms. Eyebrows are shaved although not too short and plucked . I know shaving these is not ideal but they would otherwise be far too bushy and I a not sure of any other way of dealing with them. Thinking about it (thinking aloud lol) I may try application of almond oil. I have been using this to some extent on other body hair and it does seem to soften and brighten it.

Hi all, I'm new to the forums, poking around, reading what sounds interesting. While I certainly have some shaving to keep up on I'm feeling quite lucky when it comes to my legs. Some years ago now, long before I started transitioning, my Dr noticed that I had unusual hair loss on my lower legs, suspected my T. Tests showed my T was not just low but practically non existent. Now my legs are wonderfully bare all the way up. My arms have also lost much of their hair. Has anyone else experienced hair loss like this, especially before HRT?

after reading many stories here I'm certainly a happy Trish today.

Hi, I've enjoyed reading this thread and gained some insight on a few products I'd like to try, thanks to everyone!

I use the Gillette Venus 5 blade razor. I love the moisturizer built into the blades as it does save time, and seems to cut down the risk of cuts, etc. I've been shaving my legs for a few years now all year round (I live in Florida). My hrt has made my skin itself much softer and sensitive to shaving so I need to be careful while shaving. Luckily, I don't have any hair on my ankles or feet, and have no hair on my chest or stomach. I own my own professional grade lasers and one IPL device for hair removal. However in between treatments I find shaving my legs a wonderful feminine experience.

I start in the shower after getting my legs good and wet, and shave each leg separately paying close attention around my knees as due to my being older this area can be the toughest to do a good job on. It usually takes me a good ten minutes per leg, and I haven't cut myself in a very long time. Now don't hate me, but I only need to shave my legs once sometimes twice per week for them to remain smooth and silky. I love the way they feel after shaving as I enjoy a little TV before bedtime.

Well call me surprised, shaved for real (I've done some small patches before with electric razor) for the first time today and not one cut! I wasn't even trying to be all that careful. I've cut myself more using my beard trimmer on my face. And I have a lot more experience there. Here's hoping not too many bumps and the like pop up.

On the downside, I only got through one leg and it took at least an hour. Definitely going to try trimming the hair first next time. And it turns out I've missed quite a bit. How exactly do you reach the back of your thigh and knee? And how do you know if you've got it? Unfortunately my legs naturally have more hair than the Amazon has trees.

I love the feeling although it also makes even more obvious how otherwise unfeminine my les are.

Here's to the other leg.

Using a trimmer first definitely helps. I always do that first when I haven't shaved in a while.

I also didn't cut myself the first, second, third, ..., (N - 1)th time either. Then finally on the Nth time it happened. Nooo, my amazing track record! So it happens to the best of us.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by how do you reach the back of your thigh and knee. I keep my leg straight and I bend back a little bit. I have the twist my waist a tad, but then I can reach back there and can see the back of my knees. If they feel smooth, then I've gotten it.

Good luck on the other leg! The smoothness is wonderful :)

I don't know I thought I had gotten my whole leg but I couldn't really see part of the back of the knee and when I was finished drying I realized most of the inner back thigh looked like it had barely been touched. Ick. Made me a big disappointed. Maybe my problem is I'm not only trying to reach every part of my leg but also see it so I don't end up cutting myself. Lol.

This goes right in with my complaint about the media. There just aren't enough voyeur videos, movies, etc that just show normal girls doing their normal things. You can learn a lot by just watching, often more than any instruction might.

Anyway I'll continue trying. I get the feeling that it might be a few days before I'm completely hairless down there. And then I'll probably have to let it all grow back as summer is coming and if I'm back in fla I'm not gonna be wearing cargo pants in July.

I always find that - I just finish - carry on doing something else then notice bits I have missed lol. I am lucky in being fairly fit so can twist into odd positions and get to see parts which many would have difficulties with. I think floor to ceiling mirrors would help but I cannot see that happening!

Practice and developing a method sorts most issues

Yes, same here. Behind the legs and arms are the worst. Doesn't help that the light is poor in our shower. I've started taking a waterproof flashlight in with me,.which helps a little bit.
