I'm not sure how to use the Spectrogram but I am trying to find my tone and pitch as well as my timbre. I want so badly to sound like my true self, despite the horrors of testosterone damage. Please, would someone explain how the spectrogram works so tjat I can tell if I am dong this correctly?

I have found that my voice sounds deeper and man like on the phone and more female on the radio, I’m often confused for a woman when I’m talking to a train crew on the radio at work and of course I never correct them if they call me Mrs. It just makes me smile.

I have trouble with finding my voice as well, I do voice impersonations for fun, anything from Russell Peters, Jimmy Stewart and all the way up to the high pitch Bobcat Goldthwait. I find the female voice the hardest voice to do (and I’m horrible at it) I think the best thing to do is just keep at it and it will happen.

Trust me. It's not as hard as you think. I remember I taught my only guy bff that has a SUUPPEERRR deep voice to sound like a girl ;P. You just need the right tricks to do it.

This was so helpful I can't believe it worked! I have "tough guy" roommates so I had to drive to an empty parking lot late at night to practice. But after only 30 mins of stretching my voice I was able to figure it out! thanks a lot Chibi! ^_^

Yes it is! just about three hours drive north! There are plenty of cute and friendly guys here, they're just not my current roommates lol. Sorry for getting your hopes up, but I'm getting new roommates in a few weeks though, maybe they'll be cuter and sweeter ^-^.

This is by far the scariest part for me. I have worked on my voice for a while now, and while I don't think it sounds bad, I am absolutely terrified of using it while in public. Whenever I go out, I pray to god noone talks to me, asks a question or even says hi! Noone has yet, but if they did, I would probably freeze up or come off as being stuck up or something, but I'm really just scared. Has anyone else gone through this? Does anyone have any advise?

Thanks,

Jen

Haha yaaaaa. Sometimes I just act mute. LOL! But if I'm REALLY in the mood to talk then I'll do it. I like the rush LOL!!

I have no clue how to read the Frequency Analysis chart, but I am having fun with Audacity :D One of my quirks is that I make lots of weird noises and I like to hum to things I've never heard (and some things that I have heard). Most of my friends would list that as something unique to me:

"That is one thing I am going to miss. Whenever I was stressed or tweaking, I could talk to [her] and when I asked for an opinion, [she] would just chirp or make some weird noise and I'd realise how stupid I was being."

Anyways, I don't have a feminine voice and I couldn't get the tips to work for me (I think I am overthinking things), but I've spent most of my life contorting my throat, tongue, mouth, and voice, so when I stumble upon it, I'm sure I'll think, "Oh, that's what she meant by <<insert step here>>!"

Did you record yourself? Because even when I talk now without a record of myself I tend to think I'm not sounding right.

Yes, I have recorded myself :) Occasionally it sounds about right, but I don't usually remember how to get back to that noise. Also, the recorder I am using distorts my voice quite a bit, so I can't completely trust it.

I think it's best with an itouch/iphone/ipad. Just saying lol.

Ok, I may just be being derptactular here, but I can't make a gargling noise, at least as far as I am aware, I have no idea what is meant by forward and back when referring to voice, and I don't see how you can maintain a falsetto while lowering your voice...

Ur not really maintaining the falsetto ur just having the feeling. Easiest way is press your tongue against your upper teeth. And with that feeling in the back of ur throat (Should be kinda tightening) talk. That's what that is.

Check page 2 for proof that it was 2010. Lol! Ugh. I just listened to all my recordings. I learned my mistakes now and know what I did wrong. So that's good ;D

Just wanted to say. If you have step one down (Mickey Mouse) Step two is making motorcycle noises by pressing your lips together and making a pitch high then low, high and then talking. (Notes for myself)

I will compile EVERYTHING on a blog and make everything neater during the summer. I just have to be reminded.

Wow Chibi this thread is AWESOME. Thank you so very much!!!

Honestly your "voice shortcut" shown in the YouTube video, is BY FAR the best tool I have ever found to finally reach a somewhat decent female voice. And believe me, I've tried practically everything offered out there. I mean all the fem voice courses/methods out there, singing, you name it.

Of course, NOT EVERYBODY will be able to go as high as you go when you go real high before sighing (you reach a G#5, that is, about 830 Hz, which makes me think your natural voice is tenor or even high tenor, and it breaks somewhere around G#4 or even A#4). also I believe you were still a teenager, around 19 y/o when you recorded the voice shortcut, right? Ican go as high as that G#5 you do reach in the video, but I strain my vocal cords a bit. Since my voice break is at G4, I feel more comfortable going only as high as G5, and then sighing. Then I get a "girl voice" a bit similar to yours in the video, only about half a note lower as an average.

I will be honest, the main reason why I signed up to this web site, is because of THIS THREAD, how useful and insightful it is. IMO, your shortcut is MUCH BETTER and easier than CandiFla's videos because she never explains the most important thing: how to reach the female falsetto voice (the Minnie Mouse voice, as opposed to the regular male falsetto, which is the Mickey Mouse voice, which is WAY DIFFERENT in sound and quality to the female falsetto. Being able to reach a FEMALE falsetto voice is THE KEY to achieving a convincing feminine voice IMO, as opposed to just being able to reach a male falsetto voice, which requires almost no effort really.

Anyways, I signed up, I wanted to thank you for such a GREAT thread and I really hope I can be informed if you have found any other shortcuts, or uploaded any other videos with your voice reciting some passages or just talking whatever stuff, I am sure it will be really helpful for many people struggling to find their fem voice, because IMO when it comes to passing, voice is about 50% and the rest is the other half!!!

Much love

Elegant

No one that hasn’t gone through the self perceived shame and guilt about the feelings we’ve had cannot understand 1. Why we need a therapist we trust. 2.  Why we suddenly need to talk to them. 3. Why things set us off and throw us into a bout of extreme depression.  4. Why we feel threatened even when we aren’t in immediate danger.  That threat may be only in our mind but it’s our need for reassurance.

Be careful about software bundled with your antivirus! Most likely they are using it to spy on you. As far as I know the only 2 VPN providers that actually protect your data (and delete it as soon as possible if they keep anything at all) are Proton VPN and Mulvad VPN - the latter one actually had their servers stormed by law enforcement and they walked away with nothing (cause Mulvad had no customer data to offer). I would avoid antiviruses altogether tbh, they're not a magic cure for internet safety and the built in one from Microsoft does its job well enough. If you're not on WIndows you don't even need one - just be smart about what you download of course.   Your web browser asking you to turn it off is probably because the browser would prefer to know your real location, just ignore it or pick a better browser, like Firefox.

It was stupid of me, the cop was in front of me in a u-turn cut in a spot I know about. I was running a little late because of the slow truck, and the cop happened to be there today. It is like one of only three places for a speed trap on my commute. I usually don’t speed as I try to leave enough of a time buffer in the morning.

The worst possible scenario is 4 points on my license, which a defensive driving course will negate it. I had considered getting a lawyer, but it is probably not worth the expense.

Yeah, I was puzzling on that too…

Good luck maam 😊 I’ve experienced that they’ll lower the points , if you show up in court and pay the ticket.

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums Mealaini,   Like you I knew in my preteen years that I was meant to be a girl, but didn't have any way to bring it up in the early 1960s. It was the expanding news outlets on the telly that allowed me to understand that I may not be the only person who felt this way. Wow was my mind expanded once the internet became a reasonable research tool in the 1990s.   My grown daughter (42) is nonbinary and atheist with pagan leanings. So when I came out to her she was thrilled and wanted to dress me up and show me the world. Well I think she wanted to show me to the world. My son (45) is evangelical christian and very upset with his sister for many reasons. However he's a reluctant supporter of me as transgender. I'm out to my wife and we've been married for 48 years this June, so I'm in a very late in life transition.   The other thing that has me going down an internet rabbit hole is your location. It clearly states United Kingdom with a sub flag of Illinois. I've searched the web and can't seem to locate Illinois, UK. Am I missing something?    Best wishes,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Thank you for sharing, @Mealaini, and welcome.    I appreciate your description of IFS and your book recommendation. I have a few close friends who are very enthusiastic about IFS and my therapist is incorporating some of those elements into my therapy.    -Timi

Leg hair.  Shaving it was a surprisingly big decision.  (Not as big as the beard tho)  After I did it a few times, it's never really grown back.  Haven't shaved them in a couple of years and you'd never know it.  A daughter living with me doesn't shave hers, and she is much furrier than I ever was.     I don't exactly hate my living as a guy in the past.  TBH, I was never quite there anyway.  But I just dropped it.  I live full time fem, and it would bother me a lot to go back to being a guy.  But I don't have to appease family or an employer.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
