Today was NOT my favorite day. I slipped and fell in the kitchen this morning, hitting my leg on the wood stove.  Broke a bone in my ankle and had to go to the hospital for surgery. 😒  I'll be recovering from this for 6-8 weeks, which means playing soccer during the spring/summer season is over.  I only got to enjoy two games and a bit of practice before this happened.  Trying not to feel sorry for myself...but before I was assaulted last year and got TBI, I wasn't nearly this clumsy or unbalanced.  Now I trip and fall easily, so this broken ankle is like one final gift from the guy who hurt me.  And I can't even get around on crutches very well, because I feel like I'm going to slip and fall and get hurt even worse.

On the bright side, my GF doesn't mind carrying me around like a pet.  And my husband has brought me a riding lawnmower (without the blades) to use as my personal chariot out to the garden.  Having family makes life's bumps a whole lot better 🥰

Dang, @awkward-yet-sweet, be careful with your self!

Like you said, it's good to have people to help you when you need it.

Got back from our camping trip yesterday.  I still kinda smell like smoke LOL.  We did have a bit of rain, but then, this is North Carolina.

The daughter I was with is one of my biggest allies.  We still had fun.  They are seasoned campers, and we raised our family like that.  Rain is just part of it.

Working on my first cup of coffee and a muffin. I got through church OK, more or less. A few very caring moments. After I go out, I spend the next day resting, so today is reading, time in bed, and maybe crochet. Someone gave me a pattern to make a packer. I don't use them, although I wish I could, and a cis gay guy at the lgbtq seniors center wants it when I'm done.

@IvyI'm glad you had a nice time. @awkward-yet-sweetI hope your recovery goes well and doesn't leave you with additional physical challenges.

Good morning everyone,:coffee:

I've been away since Thursday morning, and so much has happened in the forums over the extended weekend. Hugs for everyone, extra tighter for those who are struggling. I was properly gendered by most of the strangers I had interactions with. My family and friend that I'm out to, caught the inside joke when I would order Bud Light with an little bit louder voice than normal. My conservative friends and family would give me the side eye, and change the subject. It was a bittersweet weekend trip back to my hometown. My cousin who was more like a sibling lost his battle with cancer, and we had a lovely celebration of life for him, with family and friends who haven't been together since pandemic, or longer because life has taken us in so many different directions geographically. Most of us stay in touch on social media, but haven't shared in person contact for years. We closed out the weekend with more family blessings as one of my great nephews got married, to a lovely woman, who's family was excited to meet the in-laws. The wedding was Saturday but the but the two families started celebrating together on Friday, and didn't go separate ways until Sunday evening. FUN TIMES!

Hugs,

I'm sorry about your cousin. I'm glad there was also something happy to celebrate. Kudos on the Bud Light "action"--these little statements are important types of activism imo.

I will throw my $.02 in on this Bud light thing. It was a beverage manufacturer giving a special gift to a person for a milestone she reached. Its not like they let the cans out to the public. People just like blowing things out of proportion. No one would have know about it if the lady didn't publicly thank Budweiser. That was up to her and she was grateful for the unique gift. I say, Just get over it people.

Off my soap box. LOL

Well my Sunday. I a bit, after coffee of course. I am heading to the  county assessors office to get my veterans discount on my property taxes. It has still been surreal these 9 months we have owned our own home. I hope this helps solidify it, some. Then to work to get the stuff for an oil change on our 85 Crown Vic 2dr. One of my other project cars. She is going to get some love once the wagon is back drive able again. Also have to call the manufacturer that is making the intake for my wagon and check the status of it. I hope good news.

Well my friends TTFN. as I bounce on down this path called life.

Hugs to all.

Hi,

not too bad a day today.  I spent most of it stocking shelves.  We were out of fuel for an hour or two. We had Diesel and Premium only.  Lots of irate customers.  Arguing about that or that they were charged for fuel they didn’t get.  No they were not charged.   What they don’t realize is our pumps check everyone’s maximum fuel purchase with their card issuer, every time they buy gas.  Then when you actually complete your purchase that’s all you are charged.  One customer insisted she was charged $100 because she could see the temporary hold.  Refused to accept that.

what a mess.  All because we sell more gas than anyone I. The area because we have the lowest price.

hugs

Right, what you said is the standard way they do credit card transactions when the exact amount isn't known in advance. Several places where I buy things online do it that way, and they notify you about how it works right on the screen.

Where I live, gas stations have a sign right on the pump to explain that. Although I suppose some people don't bother to read. That has to be an irritating experience for a store clerk to explain the same thing repeatedly.

What I don't get is... are there that many people who have a bank account and a debit card, but lack the financial literacy to understand the difference between a hold, a pending charge, and one that is finalized?  These were things covered in my high school personal finance class over 15 years ago.

Currently hating my pain meds.  I'm not sure if they are actually better than feeling the broken ankle.  I feel sluggish, confused, float-y, and a bit nauseous.  And my dreams are weird.  I can't believe that some people like this feeling 🙄. Can't be productive when awake, can't go to sleep, wake up hourly when I do sleep.  Its midnight so technically its morning now 😆😴

Morning everyone,

I'm very excited today as I'm going to test drive a car later. I've had a really small car for a while now and need an upgrade. Yay!

Anyway, hoping you all have a nice day. @awkward-yet-sweet Hope you have been able to get some sleep - lack of sleep is the worst - and that you're not in too much pain xx

Good morning, everyone!!! We're back from a short holiday - I guess I can't really call it a vacation since we're retired - and getting back to the normal routine. All the laundry is done and put away. Today we'll pick up our dogs from the kennel. I'm ready for my second cup of coffee and to read the newspaper.

Enjoy the test drive @kira_k! New car shopping is exciting!!!

And, I hope your ankle heals quickly @awkward-yet-sweet. I absolutely hate narcotic painkillers - I avoid them like the plague unless I absolutely can't tolerate the pain. Just remember that every day gets you closer to being healed.

@Willow - people have such short fuses these days and get upset so quickly. Working a job where you interact with them is both the best and the worst.

Be safe and enjoy this beautiful day!!

It's a little bit similar here, I sometimes tell my wife that I know more about bras than her. 😉

You'd be surprised. When I worked in card fraud for Wells Fargo years ago, the number of people who didn't, and don't, understand how debit and credit, cards work is staggering. Also, the number of people who don't understand the difference between a credit card (aka:Visa) and a charge card (aka: American Express) is equally staggering. Personal finance is not taught in many schools now, and many people think that as long as they have a card, they're good to go. They also don't understand the difference between having money in their account and having a working card. For example, they would say things like, "I want that money put back on my debit card NOW," when what they really wanted was their account to be credited. Many also think that if th4ey want a transaction refunded it's fraud whether they made the purchase or not.

I would have figured us older people would remember TTFN and my bouncing along reference.

Got all I needed done yesterday. Vets exemption on my property taxes, and the old change in Snowy. Still haven't called on my intake yet. Work today then off tomorrow to see my dermatologist. Need to make an appointment with my therapist. Haven't seen her since before I went to FL.

Have a good day.

Personal finance class in high school??

I am definitely one of the annoying illiterate credit card customers.

Maybe it’s the size of the print they use.

Good morning

First, I would like to point out that when I was in high school, the very first universal credit card, BankAmeriCard, had not been created.  No one issued Debit Cards, so it was American Express and DinersClub.  It eventually grew and expanded.  It changed names to Visa and was issued by Banks besides Bank of America, NA to compete with Mastercard.  Personal Finance was not taught in schools and may still not be taught in some places.  What seems obvious to some of us is very dark and secretive to many.  That would be particularly true of companies like ours that have onsite immediate check processing.  We do accept checks, the check is read by a scanner, your bank is queried electronically.  Then the check is printed by our machine and returned to you.  Meantime a slip you sign is printed and your account is debited for the amount of your check.  Now, if debit cards are a problem imagine what those people think of that.

@awkward-yet-sweet, I understand what you mean about pain medication.  I will not take anything with codine in it as that makes me sick.  And it is so documented in my medical records as an allergy.  I won’t take Oxy either.  I’d rather deal with the discomfort than deal with the drugs.

it helps that I have a high tolerance to pain.

Yep.  In many school districts, it is an optional elective. Where I graduated, it was actually a required course. One semester. It wasn't very in-depth, but it covered basic things like types of bank accounts, types of cards, how to apply for student loans, budgeting, how to file basic income taxes....  My husband and my GF had a course that actually included an entire life simulation and tips on basic investing.

I don't know yet. I'm sure there is going to be a big crowd. I also would have to keep up with the kids and probably won't enjoy myself mostly.
    • Ashley0616
I can understand that. My Keurig is used for hot water mostly and when my mom comes. I mostly use a regular coffee maker. I have had that for 5 years now. I had a Bunn but it didn't last long. I also have a French press and rarely use that. I would love to get a cappuccino maker but that is for later on. Starbucks is getting expensive. My kids favorite thing there is the cake pops. I found out that Walmart Neighborhood Market has them. Typical me getting off topic. lol

Wow what a busy day today.  Clearly the summer crowd is coming into town.  Doesn’t hurt that we have a PGA event here.  It is limited to 100 players. But the spectators is where the crowd is.   i alone more than doubled my usual sales.     we keep hearing thunderstorms however they are staying just west of us for now. The storms in western Tennessee right now are supposed to be here in the morning.

My gen z cousin & her gf were visiting the last few days. We are a very, very small contingent of queer members of our family & we stick together. She and her gf introduced me to G Flip. They recently attended a concert and said it was the best concert ever. They were playing G Flip in the car and I was impressed by the vocals, the lyrics, the influences, and the percussion (G is also a drummer). I love a nonbinary vocalist (not that we get to hear so many...yet...) because the freedom from gender performance shines forth. I could hear influences from many styles of music I loved in the 90s, but all blended together in a joyfully percussive way. G Flip is rad! I would post a link to some tracks or an album, but there are explicit lyrics which would go against community rules - you can easily search youtube yourself if you're interested; their latest album is called "Drummer". But here is a picture of G who is serving us gorgeous nonbinary vintage Axl Rose!

Welcome, @MAN8791. I relate to this so much. I'm roughly the same age as you, afab & nonbinary. For decades, I beat myself up for being a "broken" girl/woman. And I tried my darndest for many of those years to perform woman successfully. While outwardly I may have seemed "a success", inwardly the effort and dysphoria caused me so much anxiety, panic, and depression that it eventually became unsustainable. For me, the first step was letting go of identifying as "broken". Next, I allowed myself to be however I am. And very rapidly I felt better - in fact, initially I felt ecstatic. The door was open for me to really learn about self-love and therefore love itself.

Wasn't sure whether to post this in the "uplifting news" or "news" forum. This bill is pro-LGBTQ+, albeit 30 some odd years too late with 100s of thousands of lives lost throughout the AIDS crisis. The upshot is that ol' Ron has actually done some good for the community. That's really...something...although I doubt he sees it that way. And most importantly, greater access to screening and care will save many lives.   https://ncpa.org/newsroom/qam/2024/05/01/floridas-governor-signs-bill-expand-hiv-care

Both of my parents were raised in WASP-ish families. What was or wasn't appropriate, with an emphasise on superficial appropriateness (conformity) was verbally beaten into me the second I hit puberty.   Which is really sad as I think back, and was bewildering at the time. I remember being really free to be expressive how I wanted to and then once I started puberty, all of that freedom disappeared and I didn't understand, at all.
