I always wanted to get into photography more, but couldn't afford the film and all.  When the digital cameras came in, it opened up a new world.  Once you had the camera, you could take unlimited pix, and just delete the crap and save the best stuff.  Then add in photoshop, and you can crop, and play with layers, adding text - I mean wow.

Unfortunately, having a phone with a camera, I seldom carry my Nikon around anymore.  I need to get back to it.

I don't remember something like FotoMat, but when I was a kid the digital cameras weren't a thing yet. There were shops that developed photos onsite, and you'd get back a stack of pictures a few days later.  There was also a "1 hour photo" place.  But the big thing I remember was that the police department where my father and uncle worked had a photography specialist and a darkroom.  I don't think that exists anymore.  Some people still use film cameras for art purposes, but I think they often develop their own.  My husband has an older Nikon film camera with a big lens that he used when he was in high school.  It gathers dust in some storage box now, but he took some really interesting shots 20 years ago.

I thought of getting into photography and I rented a good Nikon camera when I was in school, but my pictures were never better than average.  Not really my thing.

Good morning, everyone!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day to celebrate themselves or someone. It was sunny but windy and a bit cool here but beautiful nonetheless.

Lots of projects and running around to do, today.

Kodak was the leader in film photography as the digital era began. They bought out one of the first companies to develop a digital imaging platform and then pretty much let it die. Their position was "digital photography will never replace 35mm film." Now they are out of the photography business.

Stay safe and find the goodness in this beautiful day!!!

Good morning, sunny and going to 90 in the mid-south today. I am finding the photography chat interesting. I remember when the family photos were in black in white and you took your film to the 'drug store' (neighborhood pharmacy) to be developed. You went to a photographer to have portraits done for special occasions. I had college friends who had their own dark rooms, the chemicals were foul. I worked in the cell phone industry and remember the first time I saw a 'camera phone' prototype. It was a laptop and 3 circuit boards that looked like a hobby kit. I do remember that everybody at the time thought that phones with cameras were anything but a silly gimmick. Oops!

Morning Everyone. Coffee is ready. Had a great day yesterday with the wife. I took her off roading. We did a trail called Miller rock down in CO. She enjoyed it as much as I did.

Being together for going on 38 yrs. We tease each other, in all good fun. So, she was teasing me about getting me a Jeep.

"get a Ruby for Ruby for her/him"

Kinda surprised that she made that slip up. She does recognize my female side.

As a teen, I did develop and print some B&W film.  I had a red light and used a tiny table in a closet.  Never had an enlarger.  All the prints were small, probably around 2"X2".  But it was fun.  I went wild when I finally got a digital camera.  That wasn't till the early 2000's.  I have a lot (too many) of pix on discs.

It's still fun playing with the focus, and depth of field, just experimenting.

Yes Ivy, the digital camera leveled the playing field for the hobby photographer. I still like taking pictures of the birds at my Winter Feeders, as well as off season wildlife in the woods.

Good morning everyone.:coffee:

I remember when FotoMats were a big thing when I was younger, then they disappeared just as quickly.  It seems just a few years ago places like pharmacies and department stores were still doing film developing.  That is completely gone now too.

It's amazing that things like long-distance calling, TV channels going off the air for the night with the national anthem, cheap Kodak cameras that took 24-36 pictures at a time, seven-digit telephone numbers, three TV networks, and so much more have become so rare or completely faded into the past.

My grandkids didn't even know what a land-line was.   LOL.   We had a party line when I was a kid.

I like photography and would love to try film a bit more, but it seems to expensive to experiment with now. I have a digital camera with a couple of lenses. I need to get out more now that it's getting a bit warmer.

I got a small Polaroid a little while ago, so may e that will appease my experimental needs for now.

Good morning

Yes, I’m off today and boy did I need it!

Growing up my father did black and white film processing and printing.  I learned to do that then tried my hand at color slides.  They were a bit tricky in that there was a step or two that could cause the film to be greenish if not done right.

like others @Ivy I have a nice Nikon digital and an iPhone.  I use the iPhone for “everyday” pics but if I want something special, out comes the Nikon.  I also have an underwater Nikon.  It’s a film camera so it’s Truly a by-gone.  But there are things you can do with it you can’t do with a digital in a housing such as macro photography.   It’s less apt to leak at depth.  Most digital housings are limited depth, the Nikon is 300 feet or 9 atmospheres.  It is amazing what you can do with a good digital camera that you can’t do with a phone.

I should have slept longer, I’m still tired.

Well didn't sleep well at all. last night couldn't use my Bi-pap/02. They were working on the power and shut us off from 3am-7am. Plus first night on a brand new mattress.

Trying to figure out what to wear for my hair appointment later this am. Keep finding that my wife decided that I didn't need some shoes/outfits when we moved. I keep finding some missing. Maybe some shorts and a T which is about normal for me.

Well time to reset the clocks in the house. Only 3. One is the coffee pot which I need to start and get me some. MMM sounds like a song. LOL.

Hugs to all,

Kymmie

Good morning everyone!! Early morning for me - went to the polls to vote in the primary elections and then off to a dentist appointment. I cut grass on part of our property yesterday - will knock out the other part on Thursday. Today I'm going to work on my truck a bit. And, a replacement part for our pool salt system arrives today so I'll install that and we should be ready for pool season.

Enjoy this beautiful day!!!

Ugh!  I woke up at 7 way too early for a day off.  I didn’t even finish the first cup and I fell back asleep.  I was awakened by my phone, can you come in to work?  So and so called out.  So much for a day off.  We took the dog to the vet as scheduled, had lunch at Chic fil a got home at 12:30 at was at work at one.

I really needed a day off.  At least I only worked 3 hours.  This old body only wanted to work 4 days not 6 or 7 per week.

Harley Bike Week is in full force.  Bikes going up and down the road constantly now.

otherwise not much going on.

Well I saw the endocrinologist and still didn't get to be put on HRT. I did a physical exam and scheduled my blood work for tomorrow. My next actual appointment is the 24th. Hopefully get it then. I guess this time I'm not going to have my expectations so highly. I also did sign a paper stating I wouldn't get hormones from anywhere else and to keep with the routine appointments. I'm one more step closer to my goal I guess I can say.

My hair appointment went great. had it layered, a little trim at the ends, and best of all. She straightened my hair. I love the way it looks. Since I'm working on the car today. I put it up in a pony tail. It hangs just they way I love it. I know it only for a little while. I may see about going straight all the time.

Intake for the wagon had been ordered today. Have the old on loose but not off yet. Its a heavy cast iron sob.

Heya! I might not be on as often, seeing as I'm leaving for a school trip come 3 am, but I'll try to be on as often as is possible 😊

I guess there is a reason for not rushing things (in the Dr's eyes). You'll get there Ashley!

I see my GP tomorrow - they can prescribe hormones without any other intervention - if they choose to but I am guessing it won't be that straightforward. Once I get a mental Health Plan in place I can book in with the therapist for July.

Name wise Maybe Kate?

Good luck getting all the ducks in a row, no mater the number of ducks or the process you have to put them through. It's like @Ashley0616 pointed out, the doctors seem to have their own view of have fast things roll around. Lets hope that you both see positive support from them as you move forward.

I'm so happy for you and your new hair stylist experience. When I'm working in the shop, it's a high ponytail for me too. When welding or rolling around on a creeper the ponytail is folded up under my hat or helmet so hot sparks don't get into it. Also make extra effort to keep your hair from getting rolled up in a creeper wheel. You'll only do that once, and hopefully you won't have to cut yourself away from the creeper, like I did.

Hugs for all,

Ouch!!! That makes me cringe just thinking about it.

Good morning everyone!! I slept in to 4:30 this morning!! Drinking my third cup of coffee after getting things going. I've already read the local paper and caught up on the news. Dogs walked and fed. Breakfast dishes done.

Our pool has a salt water system and it was just not generating chlorine - finally realized it was the salt cell since the only average 5 to 6 years and it's 7 years old. Installed the new one yesterday and this morning...success!!! Put on the solar cover and set the timer for the pump. Now we just need the temperatures to get out of the 50s and 60s again!! The weekend is looking good for swimming and then into next week.

Small projects for today.

I am so happy that your wife is so supportive @ShawnaB. My wife does the same for me - she';; pick up things for me when she's shopping if she sees something she thinks I'll like - and she monitors the online sales for things, too. Life is good.

Stay safe, everyone and find the goodness in this beautiful day.

Major mood, right here ^^^    I've listened to Lumineers to a long time (a major portion of it by osmosis via my mom), so that is almost painfully relatable

As for getting a button-up/formal pants suit, you can try to talk to her more -- Cis women in tuxes have worn tuxes in recent years, after all, (for example, Zendaya) so it can still be a relatively safe topic. For jumpsuits, I'd recommend going with a simple one with a blazer, if you can -- this'll make it look overall more masculine. There's a lot of good brands, but going for one without a lot of extra glitz on it will make it look less feminine under a blazer. I don't know many specific brands though since I usually just get my stuff from chain stores, sorry :<   When it comes to your hair, if you can't cut it, you can look up tutorials on fluffing it up instead. If you can pull it off, it can look a lot shorter and more androgynous instead!

As far as I'm aware, he wasn't -- he just sometimes wore skirts, which was why it was a question in the first place.   In my opinion, part of that is because of the way press spares attention on issues like that. As a bit of a true crime nut and what I see: Child predator cases' (and cases of a sexual nature in general) press focus on those with an AMAB perpetrator generally, and very rarely are AFAB perpetrators given much press time or even getting tried due to a whole bunch of issues I'm not gonna get into. Because of this, when you see these types of cases and a boy is the victim, it's almost always a queer person who is the one who committed a crime that gets press. Therefore, with the amount of cases seen with this type of perpetrator (and due to the fact "99% of queer people are not sexual criminals" doesn't attract eyes), the human brain can kind of naturally makes an association with it. It's not right, but it's also a fault I think falls partially on the media.   That's all my opinion, though!   This is extra confusing to me, as a feminine man is usually viewed as gay. If someone is refusing the acknowledge the existence of trans people, then gay would be the societal connection that comes after, I think. So, that sorta implies that trans women wouldn't be interested in women in the first place by those assumptions? Of course, trans lesbians exist (most trans women I know like women, actually), but it's a little ridiculous to me that people will deny trans people's existence, call all feminine AMAB people gay, and say that trans people are looking to peep all in the same breath.   Wow, this was a lot longer of a response than I was planning to write--

For one thing, the practice of putting into office wholly unqualified people simply because of racial, sexual or national characteristics.  It is no accident that Karine is a Haitian immigrant, Black and lesbian.  Kamala Harris is a Black female. Pete Buttigieg is gay.  Often you find that Biden explicitly stated that this is why he hired them, not because of competence, but because they checked so many boxes on his little list.  It makes a mockery of people and is a disservice to the US.
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am not sure why people are in favor of unaccountable agencies with bloated budgets and wasteful spending.

Hey girl  I had a problem like you happen to me also. In my first year of estrogen I had a period where my level were good then they got really bad where my testosterone spike high.  I felt like you with all that disforia coming hard. Our bodies need time to adjust. The process is a real pain in the beginning. It levels out eventually and you don't even think about it. Hang in there hugs

      Biden's woke agenda?

I wonder if there will be law enforcement procedural shows coming this fall. I can imagine Law and Order: Genital Crimes Unit, or perhaps, FBI: Domestic Genitalia. Then again, maybe they will dedicate a CSI program about the dedicated members of the Oklahoma State Police Genital Screening Unit. Good to know that those Oklahomans have their priorities squared away.
    • KatieSC
Protections? Well, when they mandate that some who is transgender can get facial and genital electrolysis paid as it is essential to affirming care, or when they mandate and pay for facial feminization surgery, speech therapy/voice affirmation surgery, I will believe that the order is effective. One of biggest hurdles for many transgender individuals is the cost of care. I remember when my one insurance company tried to say that my speech therapy and voice surgery were "cosmetic". I remember when they blocked paying for my facial surgery. I remember the fight I had to get electrolysis. These procedures could save someone's life if the procedures help the individual successfully transition, and are no longer misgendered.

I don't think it should be.  Nor do I see Project 2025 as pushing Christian nationalism.
    • Abigail Genevieve
The agencies are supposed to work for him.  The problem, as conservatives found out in Trump 1, was they will ignore the president and do their own thing.  The agencies are supposed to be under his control.   Congress delegated some of its law making authority to the agencies, which is another problem.   The bloated federal government needs to be trimmed.  Dept Education is worthless - test scores have dropped since it was instituted in the Carter administration consistently, and it is currently implementing Biden's woke agenda more than doing anything else.

I hope to eventually wear a suit for dance but don't know what exactly to look for. I feel like jumpsuit is safe option but I have been interested in wearing button up and formal pants. Is there a certain brand i should look for or sites I should look at for tips? My mom is not exactly keen on me wearing too masc clothing like suits just yet but is okay with jumpsuits. Also is there hair styling tips availible, my hair looks like image below. I might be able to get shorter haircut like pixie but am not sure yet.

It’s never been about him, but he is the Presidential nominee for the Presidency that starts in…2025. I don’t see a lot of conflation that this is a “Trump doctrine”, it a doctrine that benefits him surely, but it is a plan to instill crony governance and enact very Christian conservative (if not purely Christian nationalist) “order” on the country. If you don’t see this as the Right doubling down on Big G government, I don’t know what to tell them. Getting rid of agencies and giving the authority directly to the Executive isn’t shrinking government. It’s consolidation power.
    • MaeBe
It is the made up ideology they believe trans people are pushing on the world, those “poor young girls who are being coerced into believing they are men” and the “perverts who put on dresses and think they’re girls”. The anti-LGBTQ+ movement came up with the term. Being trans = you believe in trans ideology/transgenderism, supporting trans people = the same.   In the end anyone that acts on or thinks gender is anything but what is in your pants is a “transgenderist”, why not make it a word if it’s not, there is no real grey area. Unless you acknowledge there is transgenderism, but use your knowledge to “correct it”.  So I guess there could be transgenderist conversion “therapists”.  Face it, we deface the America they want. Land of the Free and Home of the Brave? I think being out and queer is pretty brave. And freedom shouldn’t just be for those who push a narrow “Christian ideology” as the “true” governing model.
