Jandi that is the way most people I run into act.

I don't get snarky comments or people screaming OMG its a trans person run away or they will infect us.

Most people couldn't care less what you are wearing.

I had a biker guy hold a door open for me when he didn't have to do and I am sure he read me as a trans person.

Most people are nice if you are nice to them.

Apologies for the delay, but this was what I was wearing on my first ever night out in my local town at one of the nightclubs on Friday night. I've never been out to one of the local nightclubs as Neil let alone Niamh, but I love drinking and dancing and after a meal with a friend we ended up at this place with a dancefloor and I can't help myself!

@JandiI love that outfit, it looks really nice on you. It surprises me too how much people don't seem to care.

@Niamhalso love that dress. Last night my wife, our friend and I went to the local gay club (never been to one before, never been to a club before at all) it was 'Halloween in July' so I thought, boom, I can rock all my girly glory and there's no walls! We got there and there were only three, very sad looking older men sitting at a small bar, the other sections weren't porn, no costumes, and our friend forgot her ID. So disappointed. Instead we went and hung out with another friend and his wife and another of his friends. So I ended up fully dressed (bra included! My wife got me one and I adore the little bumps they give me!) and met new people. Overall good night.

Don't feel you have to be restricted to just gay clubs you can go anywhere you want.

I know when first going out dressed you assume a gay club will be safe but a gay club can be just like a regular club.

Guys and girls drinking alcohol and flirting there is always a chance for trouble.

I have been in all kinds of bars being in the music business so always keep your eyes open to what is going on around you.

I totally agree about going anywhere. I prefer going out as Niamh to bars/clubs that are not specifically "gay" but it's good to hear from others if they received pleasant and courteous treatment. That was certainly the case for me a couple of weeks ago when I was travelling away from home as Niamh for a few days. I loved it.

Wish I could be more feminine at work but I do the best I can.  Though with the HRT a few changes are getting more noticeable

@Teri Annethank you so much! I don't really ever go to bars. I had 6 months of being 18 before my first wife gave birth and I never really partied before that. My idea of fun is being with my wife and kids and a few good friends are optional. I hate crowds. I'm highly empathic so even being in Walmart is like wading out into a stormy ocean. I've never felt like I was missing anything. I just get so uncomfortable in public, even cis-presenting. Like, I can't shop in the women's clothing at the thrift store without my wife beside me. Nothing negative has happened so far so I know that's all just me. Being in middle Alabama makes it hard for me to figure out what the heck is going on. I still can't get over the fact that it seems like all the homophobic and transphobia crap I've heard is just talk between 'bros'.

 

@JustineMwhat I see in that picture is a beautiful girl. I wouldn't think otherwise without a voice or body language.

Alice  never blame your situation on where you live and I know some think larger cities are more liberal but thats not really true.

I have been all over the south and north east and I found more hate and anti trans people in the north east and New England area.

People on trans forums talk about the "red neck good old boys" in the south being anti trans but from my experience they have been the most accepting .

I live in Ky and the people here are accepting for the most part.

My city has had a visible trans community since the early 1960s so here its common to see trans folks out and about.

@Teri AnneI am from Kentucky. I'm not sure what part you live in, but I found it to be the absolutely least accepting place I've ever been. And I didn't even have to deal with trans issues. I know it's not everyone but I couldn't go anywhere without seeing judging people, too poor, clothes not expensive enough, not the right family. I've found Alabama to be much more accepting. And I have noticed, like I said, that even the people here that run their mouths about gays and trans, tend to drop the act when you tell them you are. It's like they say it because they think it's expected and when they find that it's not our it's okay to not be negative about it, they just stop.

I'm not blaming my location, it's really just my own reaction that I'm pointing out. I'm still trying to build up my own confidence. 

 

(sorry, not trying to rip on a state, I've just had so many negative experiences in KY)

Ive felt accepted in "redneck" areas and unaccepted in very colorful rainbow spectrum places.  Who knows? Day by day I guess...

Alice I live in Central Ky  but spent a lot of time  in Eastern and Western Ky when I was a truck driver.

You are right when you tell them what you are they tend to back down and seem fine with it.

I did Trans awareness meetings in small towns all over Eastern Ky and help trans teens come to grips with everything.

The mountain towns are full of really accepting people.

Of course you might run into one bad apple here and there but they generally walk away.

      It's nice to care about others but you need to live your life as you please. No one be your only source of happiness. Love yourself and don't look back. I lost over 40 family members it hurts but apparently, they didn't truly love me. True love will always be there through the thick and thin. I can honestly say that HRT has made me think in ways that I never thought I would. I get myself some shoes or clothes every month because retail therapy not only helps but it is a reward to myself to show love. I have over 100 dresses. I have a whole walk-in-closet full of clothes and 67 pairs of shoes. I love who I am. I was born in 84 so not all people in the 80's think that way. As far as the name just take your time and be happy with it. I knew I loved the name Ashley. Take care and welcome!

      WOW @Ashley0616 it’s good that you have skills to treat traumatic injuries, as well as the ability to remain calm while managing others needs to get yourself and the boys ready to go to the hospital. Proud mama bear skills.       Well yesterday was not fun. I was getting ready to make dinner and I hear screaming and crying. I look over and my son put his foot through glass. He gashed near his Achilles tendon. Thankfully that is intact. I didn't freeze for a second. All of my military training came into play. I doctored him up and got Jett ready and myself and we headed to the ER. He is doing ok today. He says he is in pain but doesn't need Tylenol. He is a tough cookie!

      Hi,   It's seems today is my trans birthday.  I'm beyond excited. Just picked up my testogel from the pharmacy. Although I naturally have doubts as I'm sure do we all, they are rapidly disappearing. Yesterday I was so nervous I kept claiming I'm not trans, despite grinning like a fool knowing I can pick up my prescription the next day. I'm shaking and on the verge of happy tears. I will put on my first sachet this eve. Thanks so much to this forum and kind words from people. This is the first forum I found when I began seriously questioning.

      While the Soviet Union did not end up being the source of all evil, I believe that history has shown that Joe McCarthy generally was right. There ARE all kinds of Marxists slithering around. And if that had been dealt with firmly 75 years ago (or more) the nation wouldn't be in the shape that it's in now.    And while I generally oppose the idea of intervening in foreign affairs, the world probably would have been better off if we had taken care of issues in Russia and defeated the Bolshevik Menace back in 1919. God bless the memory of Admiral Kolchak.   Getting back to project 2025, my belief is that Republican efforts are inappropriately focused on trans folks. A minority of a minority does not wreck a nation. But it is easier to focus on trans folks because they can look like they're doing something. They don't have to address the real problems, and really they don't want to address them because they would have to address themselves.  They would also need to admit that the 50 State version of the USA cannot be saved.
