Oh snap! this is definitely my topic,  I have to say right now I’m listening to Duran Duran and  Ace of Base a lot in the Fiero, oh yeah Fieros are kind a like coming out but in a vehicular fashion... I wish my tape deck wasn’t so buggy, I use the original cassette tape in the Fiero, 1987 was a good year. I’m also inexplicably hooked on beep beep I’m a sheep as found on YouTube by so many different posters, I can’t get it out of my head and the little sexy sheep make me laugh so hard I can’t stand it.

I spend a lot of my time listening to Radio Caroline on the radio now they have their medium wave transmitter. Not quite the pirate radio it once was (they are now legal), but still playing better music than most stations (lots of classic oldies from those days). I listened years ago when they were pirates and BBC was rubbish, with regard to modern music. In general terms they are still more to my taste!

I think MW listening is wonderful. Nothing like a glowing valve receiver in the dark, the smell of the dust warming on the envelopes, an 8" Jensen bass reflex reproducer, the selective fading at dusk, to add to the overall effect. 39 M has had some pirates at times, real radio....

I found a new song, at the end of the movie "The Accountant," that really resonated with me.  The singer's voice isn't great, but it somehow fits the song.  It's called "To Leave Something Behind" by Sean Rowe.

 My daughter and I will be breaking out the Fiero tomorrow and going for a drive with our local little club, my tape deck stopped working so no cassette tapes on that trip but we will have the radio tuned into 94.5 which is the local 80s station and oddly enough when I was growing up it used to be KWSS which was the local pop station of the time and played exactly the same music so it’s really strange to still have the same station playing the same music from when I was a kid. I’m hoping for some Billy Joel and maybe some Prince, And the obligatory ‘safety dance’ that is so by definition 80s,  it reminds me of when I stayed up late as a tween and snuck out of bed when my parents didn’t know I was up to watch channel 48 on the VHF channels and see snippets of the early MTV that all the kids at school were talking about, well all the girls anyway... all the girls and myself couldn’t get enough of what was happening on MTV. It’s really strange I still go to the same church and school, my daughter attends the same school and has the same teacher that I did in sixth grade and I really love seeing him and talking with him about how my daughters doing, and since I help her with her homework every night it really takes me back . (sixth grade homework is harder than I remember) Oddly enough my wife’s Bestie happens to be one of the girls that was one grade ahead of me, who's sister was in my class. I hung out with her all the time and I still hang out with the sister and my wife (whenever they let me)  and I love just being part of the girls, even if they don’t really know what I’m doing...

Jae, are  you stuck in the '80s too? I'm currently listening to a playlist I made of '80s pop rock, classic rock, and a few older and newer songs mixed in. 

 

When I was  kid I wanted to be a DJ, and I made my own radio station. I taped the talk button down on  my walkie talkie and played 45's. My stations call letters were WZYZ. Now, I set my playlist up to be like listening to the radio. I put it on random play and let it go. Needing a name for it, I named it after my old radio station, WZYZ. I've got over 300 songs and adding.????

Hi Timber Wolf!

I did something very similar as a kid with all my cassettes, I found an old Rangers handy talkie near the damn in the woods by my home when I was out walking, it transmitted on the 150 MHz band so I managed to use a 108mhz transmit Crystal to get down to the bottom of the 108 MHz band with a little less than one watt. It took a fair amount of twiddling the coil’s and wrapping my own  antenna transmatch but it kind of worked and I was able to play my cassettes from our house on top of the hill and have a few people who I knew actually hear it even if the audio quality was terrible.  Oh and yes I am completely stuck in the 80s, we drove our little Fiero all over the place this weekend, we stopped at a really nice bar and grill to have some steak and eggs, followed by a trip to Gizdich Ranch for some pie. The 80s station 94.5‘s been permanently locked into my stock radio settings and we listened to it all day, we got a really good dose of Prince today which made us  both very happy because we like to sing along. We got to hear, little red Corvette at least twice of course the obligatory purple rain and my favorite of the day let’s go crazy. There were some other good songs, I remember some Joan Jett and Huey Louis but nothing overtly 80s it was just kind of a mix today. I’m not sure why am stuck in the 80s but that would be a very  reasonable summation of my personality preferences at the moment.
