From time to time, a question arises on this site regarding the proper use of pronouns.

One does not wish to offend, so it's imperative that all examples are included on any list that's posted here for the education of others.

To wit, here are a few that are common in my part of the country but are all too often omitted:

HIS'N Belonging to that man, as in "Them boys is his'n."

HER'N Property of that female person; i. e., "Is them books her'n?"

ALL Y'ALL Each and every one of you

THEM'S They are.

THEY'S They are.

YOU'UNS All of you, i. e., "You'uns comin' to the barbecue?"

WE'UNS All of us.

'N'THEM Also the others, whose names I shall not list at this time

.....my English teacher who was Polish was wonderful, even tho she always called me by the wrong name - i loved her though her breath smelled of rotten cabbage, because she was such a good teacher and English was my favourite subject - note we have an "e" on the word favourite in Britain - i have got into the way of using easy methods of writing, missing letter off, leavig out commas etc etc (because now i can) - The teacher, if we said "ok" would shout "get out of this classroom, I will not have you using Americanisms in my presence", lol!

My computer also misses letters as i needs a good cleanup - but when I first went to America, it was to Atlanta to fly ligh aircraft from an airfield in Rome, staying in a small motel nearby. Opposite was a small cafe i ate most meals and when i would leave, they used to say "YALL have a nice day now" - at first i looked around and thought - "theres only me - why are they saying you all"?

In Britain we have many different accents and dialects, i recite poems on y-- T---- in a Lancashire accent because i was brought up there but have lost my accent. As people travel more those dialects are fast disappearing which is a pity. When I was young, Iiving in Manchester, I could tell by a persons accent which part of the town they came from.

So yer cant do owt about it lass!

Jaques...

Why do the English use so many extra vowels in their words (foeces?!) when Poland has such a dire shortage? Perhaps you could trade for a few of their surplus consonants.

I lived in Rome from 1957 to 1963 and graduated from high school there. I also lived in Atlanta from 1969 to 1977.

My friend Clive is from Wolverhampton but has been to the USA so often that his accent has become somewhat Americanized. But I literally could not understand what his brother was saying when I visited there.

Well English is derived from Latin

Ah i expect you know the arfield in Rome then?

As for foeces - well English is derived from Latin and Foeces is such a word though i think its spelt differently in Latin, which language i never studied but

means dregs - yes i can understand you not getting the Wolverhampton accent, not one of my favourite, i love the Welsh language and accent, it has a lovely soft lilt to it...............

Discussion far too cerebral for my taste. :D

Today is the 30 day anniversary of my start on HRT. :) And changes are already happening; I (intentionally) gained 12 pounds two weeks ago (from 145 lbs). And it didn't go to my waist or love-handles! Yesterday I looked in the mirror at my rear and thought "Oh my god, it looks completely different". I know it sounds crazy after only 30 days, but I showed my wife and she said "You totally have a woman's butt!" It's really filling out. So are my legs.

OMG, I have never been happier. :D

cerebral, well Ms Catherine, lets talk bottoms then, lol! Well dont, Ive never had a "womans" bottom, nor hips - womens shapes are wonderful, i love curvy women - my missus is mixed race African/English and she has lovely curvy everything - its amazing what these hormones will do - or in her case, just nature, as they say "keep taking the pills"

Todays pet peeve.

Not getting replies from "Support Organizations" to my e-mails. Good thing I'm not suicidal! Don't know if this will post, Carriage Returns are not working nor are Emoticons. Huggs, Joann

Well, my later posts seem to have worked fine, Megan.

I'm sure glad I'm not doing the IT thing here.

PJ has more than the hands full keeping things running smoothly around here. :welldone:

There's a free solitaire game on my computer, and I turn to it now and again between fruitlessly sending employment applications into cyberspace and visiting web sites to see who's having more fun than I am (hint: everyone).

This version of Free Cell rewards the player who wins a game with not just an impressive animated display of playing card acrobatics but the recorded sound of enthusiastic crowd applause.

I realized today just how much I've come to rely upon that support to maintain my positive outlook in the face of unrelenting adversity.

If those people - strangers - can look beyond their own problems (not the least of which, for some, may be having died) and take the time to give me a virtual pat on the back, there is nothing I cannot accomplish.

Thank you, my anonymous friends, for giving me the strength I needed to carry on.

I highly dislike my mother she treats me like crap then throws a fit when I walk out to avoid a fight... only parents can victimize us and turn around and act like the wounded party...

They do know how to push our buttons but you'd be surprised how much you can miss even that when they are gone

Hope things improve between you. Don't know about yours but my mother thought telling you what was wrong with you was how to show love.

Sad for both of us

Not sure.  The perp is a minor.  The problem here is NOT transgender, the problem here is incompetent and criminal administration.  See https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/family-of-loudoun-co-student-sexually-assaulted-ineptitude-of-all-involved-is-staggering/3231725/ It is more than annoying that people think the problem here is TG and that other people think the solution is some stupid statewide law.  Like an appendectomy to deal with an ingrown toe nail.    Since Loudon, I recall a boy was asked not to use the girl's restroom at a high school by one of the girls.  He, overwhelming her with height and weight,  assaulted her, claiming he had a right to be there.   Later I think eight girls beat him severely in another girl's restroom.  Again the problem is not transgender, the problem is assaults in restrooms and common courtesy.  TG is used as a smokescreen and it seems to paralyze thought among administrators who do not want to do anything to provoke controversy.

Time to get with your Primary Care doctor and be referred to a neurologist or an orthopedist.  It could be many things, too many for any of us here to guess at.

Other than the Boy Scout motto, oath, and law. I use two:   When asked how I'm doing? In all honesty I reply. I would have to make something up to complain. If asked to explain further: I reply. I know someone is having a tougher time than I am, and I pray God blesses them.   I also recite this quote that I have tagged in my signature: Courage, doesn't always roar. Sometimes it's the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."-Unknown    Saying these things daily keep me motivated.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

If this goes on, I am conceding the real possibility of being stopped in WM or somewhere by a concerned citizen who tells me, "Lady, God made you female.  I don't think you should be trying to look like a man. You need to return to your true gender and be comfortable living your life out as a woman."   Begin odd and awkward conversation.  I have been thinking about this this morning.

There are many MAGA GOP types who are not transphobes, of course. Some MAGA GOP types are transgender.

I'm hoping to read the next section today.  Many of the reforms they are calling for are good, such as expediting the military procurement process, and have nothing to do with transgender issues.

Good afternoon,    I have a young friend who is vegetarian and married to a full on meat eater. They have two areas of their grill clearly designated for their different cooking requirements. When she’s cooking she uses tongs or chopsticks to handle any meats. When he’s cooking he respects her request not to cook her meals on the side where meat has been. They get along fine and respect each other.    When she attends our house, she usually brings her own food, but knows I will clean my grill to meet her requirements. We love and respect her commitment to be vegetarian. I love that she trusts me to make her comfortable when visiting us. There are ways to make it work.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I was going to call it Numbness, then I realised well.. it isn't. basically, yeah, it isn't.   this only happens to me sometimes. I'll be lying down and my legs will.. well, I guess lock?   If I straighten them out, they will unlock- when I roll over again, they will lock again. this lasts for around 10/ 15 minutes I guess   it's not pins and needles either

so, a close friend wants to cook for me   the issue is, she is a vegitarian and won't handle meat- I, on the other hand, won't handle vegetables- hate the things   every time she goes out to the shop, she comes back with something.. a cake, a fruit smoothie, a coffee, I won't eat any of it. please help me think of something that she could make for me that I'll actually eat   disclaimer: you are talking to the most pickiest eater in the world. good luck

I think there is some truth in this.  They intend to implement Project 2025, whether or not he spends his energies persecuting the Democrats who have been persecuting him (in his view, a debatable point) and does nothing else.   I have seen numerous accusations that the document is about "Trumpism", whatever that is, and is merely a vehicle for him to become dictator.  From what I have read so far, that is the same sort of truth as the Steele Dossier, denying the validity of a certain laptop, Schiff's non-existence evidence of collaboration and a host of other things, many directly from Biden, that are simply not true.   I will continue reading it.
