Bigots in Tizzy Over Target Partnership

Minnesota-based retail chain Target has come under fire from those on the right after announcing its new partnership with Chip and Joanna Gaines, the couple behind HGTV’s popular show Fixer Upper.  A new home decor line called Hearth & Hand with Magnolia is set to debut in Target stores nationwide during the first week of November.  Fans of Fixer Upper have taken to social media to voice their outrage.

The reason for their ire?  Why, Target allows its employees and customers to use the fitting rooms and restrooms that most closely align with their gender identity, that’s why.  Ironically, amid the lamentations that these fans of the show have already boycotted Target for its hellish ways, you won’t find similar threats to stop watching the show.  Apparently Mr. and Mrs. Gaines are perceived as Christians among their fan base, something that fan base has expressed puzzlement over in light of this new development.

Last year, Fixer Upper viewers from the other side of the aisle were outraged at the revelation that Chip and Joanna Gaines are members of a staunchly anti-LGBTQ+ church.  The couple released a statement in response explaining their personal beliefs, which do not include discrimination.  Their partnership with an accepting and affirming retail chain seems to solidify the claims made then.  We applaud Mr. and Mrs. Gaines for choosing to align themselves with such a progressive company and wish them success in this new venture.
