How Did You Choose Your Female Name?

As a child i would ask my mother "what you have called me if i was born a girl" she would always say "Elizabeth"....my name is in honor of my mother. Lis is a derivitive of Elizabeth.

From Ελισαβετ (Elisabet), the Greek form of the Hebrew name אֱלִישֶׁבַע ('Elisheva') meaning "my God is an oath" or perhaps "my God is abundance". The Hebrew form appears in the Old Testament where Elisheba is the wife of Aaron, while the Greek form appears in the New Testament where Elizabeth is the mother of John the Baptist.

Among Christians, this name was originally more common in Eastern Europe. It was borne in the 12th century by Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, a daughter of King Andrew II who used her wealth to help the poor. In medieval England it was occasionally used in honour of the saint, though the form Isabel (from Occitan and Spanish) was more common. It has been very popular in England since the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in the 16th century. Famous modern bearers include the British queen Elizabeth II (1926-) and actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011).

When I was 4, I told my dad I wanted to change my name. He said he'd get really sad if I did it... so I waited 24 years. Over those 24 years, I picked names. I liked Alyssa the most. My middle name is Lee, and it just fits with almost any last name that happens to come along should I have to change that too.

My mother is an old hippie spiritualist... gave me a unisex American Indian name. Maybe you've heard it before. (Dallas!) It was a surprise to her when I was born a boy, as she felt my little female soul inside her. My feminine name is simply a play on the original. The True essence of Dallas: (Essence+Dallas= Dallesse) It came to me on a day when my true personality had suffered too long from oppression and forced itself to the surface.

My parents wanted to not know my gender at my birth, so they prepared two names, the female one was "Marie". Unfortunately, I don't really like it, so I just went for the simplest solution and took one of the female version of my male name i liked the most. Plus, both have the same diminutive "Lulu", as to not make those who use it (family and close friends) to switch. I really love Lucie. I wanted to keep "Marie" as well, though, and i have three legal first names. Without really thinking about it, it was just obvious, "Adèle" came between those two.

Lucie, Adèle, Marie <insert last name>.

One day, these words will appear on my ID card :D

I must say, I love it too. You really have picked a beautiful name. Though I like it spelled Lucy as well, I love the Lucie spelling and have done for years.

Lol, hit the backspace key.

I actually knew my first name long before I realized I had gender issues, my birth name name never seemed fitting. Partly inspired by the title character in one of the movies by my favorite Western (as in the genre) actor, partly by a fictional band leader :D

Now my last name is inspired by the Captains Nemo, most especially the daughter of the original Captain Nemo as portrayed in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (the graphic novel series). Even more-so it's inspired by Odysseus' words to Polyphemus* when asked his name, "I am no man," for in the Latin, "Nemo" means "No man" in the sense of "Nobody." I'm sure it didn't hurt when Eowyn repeated this line to the Witch King of Angmar as she slayed the dude.

*later, when blinded by Odysseus, Polyphemus exclaims something to the effect of, "No Man has blinded me." And that's why there isn't a breed of giant one-eyed dudes roaming the Earth any more. Because of the original Nemo. You're welcome.

My sister has already started calling me by Charli Elizabeth, and some how it sounds right. I was just using Charli as a feminine version of my male name for now, and was planning on changing it to Elizabeth. I wanted to get away from usinv anything close to my old name. But to hear my little sis call me that, it just sounded right.

Hugs!

Charli Elizabeth (hehe)

I have always loved the name Tracy. I also like Jennifer as well so chose the names Tracy Jennifer. Even if I never fully transition which is quite likely Tracy is a unisex name so I have confidence in using it anytime anyway.

I have always been very fond of my name (even a couple of girls I grew up with that had the same name that I always admired). I consider myself a classy girl who is always up to par with age appropriate fashions and the name just sort of suits me. I chose Nikole as my middle name because it sounded really good together. Turns out Nicole happens to be the same popularity as my birth name the year I was born. Go figure.

My mom has been more accepting of me being trans lately and even promised i could get a binder if i pay with my own money. The preferred name is still an issue. So far my mom, close friends and brother know i identify as trans but no one else does. I recently told mr grandparents about my partner and explaines the perferred name as a nickname they prefer to have. Luckily everyone who knows is accepting but i feel like i still have so much progress to make. Started getting more uncomfortbale being reffered to as my deadname and she/her in public. My therapist is getting me a trans pin for my birthday next time I see her. I have hop but sometimes I feel like the goal is so far. HRT and top surgery are things i know i want but there has been warnings given to me about the problems that come with it from the ones that have accepted me and I trust most. Mainly from the adults in my life that know, also been getting nervous many people dont see me as a man but i also go to an all girl school. being consistenly reffered to as women has started to get to me and have had urge on several occasions to write perferred name on paper. i dont think pereffered name can go into school system due to being catholic school and for graduation diploma we have to contact the person in charge and ask. I just need some advice on what to do, I am thank ful for the advice everyone had given me, made me feel better about future and hope that I can transition but also worry about familial ties and affect. due to most f them being born in the 80's and 90's and not taking it well originally mostly based on my moms reaction. I love my family alot but how they might react is scaring me. my mom still donesnt want them to know. I know they love me but when I eventually come out and medically trasition in several years hopefully, what will happen? there are little kids in the family and I already dont see them a lot, how would their parents react? what would they say to the kids? I know my aunt would not take it well due to political belief and warnings from cousins.

Maybe.  But they'd probably resent being required to do it.   IDK.  You have to show ID to register already.  And you have to be registered to vote.

Hah! Woke up the Red Scare!   I’ve never read Marx. I tend to believe in the inherent goodness in people. I let their words and deeds change that. Insisting people are immoral/less than/should not exist, stripping them (or keeping them from) human rights, is an a most basic example of true evil. What evils do LGBTQ+ people present simply existing? How does the Right justify their crusade against us? What justifies the manufactured fear and loathing they spout every day about us?

I saw this concert in which it is said that the famous phrase of Jon Landau "I saw the future of rock and roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen" comes from that night. By the way Bruce opened for Bonnie Raitt that night and she was the better performer . . . just sayin'.

Astronomy and astrophotography.  I have done a few public presentations on the subject and could most likely wing it for an hour without putting you to sleep.   On the other hand if you need a sleeping pill, I could also talk for an hour about flying and you'd be out cold.

Please consider joining us, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what the meetings are like. I've learned so much, had so much fun and gained confidence in myself just by being a part of this amazing group of people. It's a low key, no pressure, non-judgmental chance to just be among people who are supportive, understanding and affirming of each other.    I'm travelling out of state and still planning on dropping in for awhile.    Come see what it's like!!

Thank you, Susan!! It was such an amazing experience for me. I can't remember if I even talked about it on a Zoom meeting.   Here is the link to the post I made about it. And, again, thank you for helping to give me the courage to do it.
