How Did You Choose Your Female Name?

At first I thought I choose Sara because I like how it sounds and out of the necessity of choosing a name to identify with.

Now that I look back at things, it was a bit more complex. All my life I liked to create stories and act them out in private.

A way to get away from reality. I realize that all the names I was considering were from the characters in those stories

minus the Japanese ones. I figured it would be kind of strange for a Chinese person to have a Japanese name. Also,

considering my entire family has relatively common American names, I choose to stick with that trend.

Also tried feminizing my male name and didn't like the results.

Though I'm still not sure if Sara will be the name I officially choose in the end it's sticking to me for now.

I was going to go with Ashley. I just like that name. But then there were so many Ashley's (offline too!) so I picked April. I don't remember how exactly I cam up with April, but somehow I did. I think I was thinking of other names that started with "A", and somehow I got April. I thought, "Hey, I don't know any Aprils." so I picked that one.

Mines was easy as! As you can see I called myself andreahilton for my account name, Andrea is my real girl name and Hilton is well I love Paris Hilton.

However in real life, I won't call myself with that last name. My real name is well just change a to w, and I always had a tense feeling hearing my male name. When I changed the w to a, my name went bam to female! It suited me straight away.

When I change my name legally I would have to change my middle name too since it's my father name, I will change it to my mother's name.

I will be called Andrea Heather (last name private) one day, and the first time I thought of it, it suited me faster than light speed! :)

As of now, I chose Alexandra, which is the female version of my male name, Alexandre. I'm used to be getting called Alex anyway.

I've always liked the names Megan and Jessica, I thought about it for a while and I decided I liked Megan more, so I became Megan

I was registering on another site and found the name Mildred was taken. I really like Midlred and so I used a spelling that was similar to old english. I then added Anne

I was 5 years old when a girl moved into the neighbourhood with the prettiest name I had ever heard (which isn't Jane) so I decided that was my name to. At he age of 5 I was still sure I WAS a girl so the name meant a lot to me. That was 55 years ago so I have had my name a long time! ;)

[My birth mother said he was going to name me Sheila - god I am glad she didn't keep me - I HATE that name LOL!

I posted earlier in this thread about being undecided on names with a few listed that I was considering. Just posting an update, but I've decided on the name Clare.

My girlfriend and I had a conversation one night about this :P.

We went over at least about a half hour to an hour or so before deciding on one aha.

Originally it was going to be michelle, the parallel to my born name.

But we had decided that honestly, it just wasn't matching with me.

Then we thought of the name "macy"...I loved it.

It sounded cute, and something I could just...well fit with.

So, it's stuck.

I can't say it's permanent, but so far it's stayed.

Though no one but her calls me by it yet, I'm waiting for the day that other people do the same :/ (aside from the community here B))

Guest Celeste!

I chose my female name from when my wife was pregnant.

We hadn't decided on what name scince we didnt know the sex of our baby.

So we choose a name for each sex.thow years before as corny as it is there was a girl at my local supermarket that i always used to be served by in tassie that had the same name that my wife and i agreed to name our daughter if we ever had a female child.thow we had a little boy. So I took celeste as my name.

Celeste x-x-x :)

I actually decided on my name when I was about 10 years old. I never felt comfortable with my male name I was given at birth since it just didn't seem to fit what I felt inside of me, so I looked around my class at the other girls I attended school with and didn't want to pick one of the usual girl names that were popular at the time, e.g.; Susan, Patrica, Mary, etc. So I decided on Erica. I always liked this name and it was different from everyone else's.

Since I've known myself as Erica most of my life, it was just natural to become Erica when I had my name legally changed. It's also not even close to my originally boy name. I felt I needed a complete departure from that life.

I was talking with my best friend (if you read my other posts and see that I mention her in almost EVERY one of them, it's because we really are that close) and I asked her if I was a girl what name would suit me best, and she suggested Natalie, so I tried it on and kind of liked it. :) The only problem is, she doesn't really like calling me by my girl name, but she still thinks it fits.

I chose Angelique,or should I say my inner true self did in 93,ten years before I came out.

It was while rereading a novel recently that I came across my name in one of the lead characters.

When choosing my name I wanted nothing remotely close to my birth name.So while watching a

movie in 03,I heard my name and knew right then that was who I am.Now I know why.My inner woman decided her name long before(he) admitted that (he) was a woman to the world.I had always wondered how I had so decisively chosen my name.My how convoluted are the minds workings to have stored my name so deep for so long I never knew it until my time was right.

She knew,(he) had nothing to do with my choice. That was the begining of (him) going bye-bye

forever.Fare thee well dude,I sure don't miss you.

Hugs Ladies,

Angie

give her a chance, like with anyone close to us its gonna take time for her to get used to the change and use the name on a fairly regular basis. It has taken my SO since april to get to the point where she uses Joanna regularly, the only time his name comes up is in an emergency but then she did know me by that name for several years.

The last time my mother and I had a conversation about what she would name another daughter if she had one. Unfortunately she passed before I came out. I would have just asked her what she would name me (my dad is really open hearted and open minded but I think it would be a bit out of his comfort zone.) When I was in my late teens my mom thought she might be pregnant and asked what I thought of Christine for a name. It was a long time ago, but I remembered and that is what I went with. I found out later that in my baby book she wrote Kelly for a girls name. Christine is still more recent and since I went with it already, why change again?

"Ricka" adding the A" to Rick. Fits me perfectly. My BF responded by saying, "I want to tell the world I am in love with Ricka." So how many Ricka's do you know? Yep! That would be me! They broke the mold after they made me!

Ricka

Living in a Hispanic area of the country I had taken your male name as Rico, so Ricka would be the correct feminization. Anyway congrats and welcome aboard

I know I said something in this topic earlier, but I don't remember what I said.

So basically I remember I always really liked the name Janelle. So why not?

I'm not sure the past is a sure guide to future needs.  LGB have no dog in the fight on public restrooms, for example.  That is T only, and only some T at that.

When I appear on the radio and podcast it will be in discussion with a political scientist who will discuss those aspects. I’m focussed on the implications for kids and why the recommendations are flawed. But yes, I will probably briefly paint the political background.

GFY, @Betty K. Don't forget to write about the motivations for the Cass Report, and who paid for its conclusions. "Cass Met With DeSantis Pick Over Trans Ban: Her Review Now Targets England Trans Care." — Erin Reed  And now its back to America, 'surprise, surprise.'

Hi @Sol. Great to hear from you and your updates are all encouraging. Wonderful all the support you're now getting from your family and to hear you sounding so positive and hopeful. Career as an archivist sounds like a great path - sensible and not too specific, but endlessly fascinating at the same time. Not only do museums employ archivists, but so do many other institutions such as historical societies and universities. Your university may have its own archives which you could visit and learn about. Take care & be well!

Hi @KathyLauren no worries!   I’ve only ever gotten a two-year degree in programming, and that one was just because I existed in the U.S. Air Force as a coder long enough to qualify for all of the technical credits, then I just took CLEP and DANTES tests to get the rest.   Most of my work has been in the security arena, lots of C/C++. Worked as a Red Hat hacker for a few years, and spent a few more years in gov’t spaces.

Hi, Amanda.  Your story sounds quite familiar, though my pesky body part didn't need the attention of a urologist.  You are in good company here!

Hi, @AmandaJoy.  Welcome to Trans Pulse.  Be sure to check out the various forums and join in any threads that interest you.  We'd love to read all about you in the Introductions forum.   -----   I started programming in Dartmouth Basic in high school back in the early 1970s.  I did my degree in Computer Science.  After a brief stint in the "government flying club" (RCAF), I worked as a programmer-analyst and systems analyst for about 25 years.    I am retired now, but I still enjoy programming.  I write a lot of the code for my astrophotography observatory.

WOW HAS IT BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE UPDATED!!! Welp, I'm updating now, and it's been a lot of changes.  1. My mom is starting to come around a little (I think). She does refer to me more as her child now, and even offered to help me cut my hair so I think we're making a little progress. I'm still planning on going on T later and I'm gonna start saving up to buy trans tape (I can't wear binders because I have GERD), so hopefully the progress stays. My dad, sibling, friends, and my paternal grandparents have all been super supportive and I'm really lucky for that. My sibling also goes out of their way to introduce me as their brother and it makes me so happy :D 2. I've been socializing a lot more! Mostly on Discord, but I've made some new friends and I'm really happy about that!  3. I'm on birth control! I still need to go to the gyno but my GP got me on the depo shot and it's been working for me so far! My dysphoria has gone through a lot of ups and downs, especially around periods, but that source is pretty much gone now and I feel way better. I do have more dysphoria centered around my chest now but that's pretty easily fixed with baggy shirts most of the time.  4. I know 100% now that I'm hoping for a uterine ablation (cauterizing the uterine tissue so it doesn't grow) at some point in the future and it's likely something I'll have to save up for but from my research it's a lot less invasive and safer than a hysterectomy so I definitely recommend it if people are able to access it. I also know that after that, I want to save up for a reduction to combat the chest dysphoria, and I still like having it sometimes so I'll keep a bit of it (I'm shooting for an A cup, I'm a C cup currently).  5. I've been writing more and I've even got some ideas for art projects! I also got an Archive of Our Own account where I post my finished writing, and I'm starting a book project at my mom's urging (she said she wanted that as her Christmas present so I'm gonna try, might not get it done this year though). I haven't gotten to write much lately but I'm hoping to change that this month.  And finally, 6. I'm gonna be a college junior and I have a career path to pursue! I'm gonna be an archivist, hopefully working for a museum (not too specific on where, I just like museums).  So yeah, a lot of stuff has happened and it's been pretty good!
