I loved KJET AM (1590 khz) and how it sounded crusin' around the area, especially nearing sunset, the selective fading, that AM sound, and great choice of music heard there....It was unique

Here on the East coast, specifically the Boston area all the alt stations were on FM in the 70's and 80's.  I remember listening the very early 60's as a time when there were many wonderful AM stations, WBZ ("The Boss sound in the BOSs TOwN!"), WRKO, WHDH, in Boston and WPRO in Providence, RI.   I liked that the AM signal travelled far.  Later I use to be able to pick up WBZ at night when we lived in San Leandro, CA (Bay Area) when the weather was right.  Some stations broadcast with reverb or echo to give it a concert hall sound.   I'll shut up now as I'm dating myself.

Go on Jani, I enjoy reading your post about that classic "DX" sound experienced, and can get quite chatty about radio listening ?  Being able to hear Boston on the west coast is really a great thing. We still have FM AOR here in Seattle, and it hangs on even in 2020 .....

I remember this tune.  I checked my list and I don’t have the album.  I still have my entire collection from that era in the hopes that someday I’ll digitize them all—wishful thinking.
This psychedelic alt rock style was my favorite back then probably 80% of what KJET played in the early 80’s. Some of my other longtime favs introduced to me by KJET first were The Smiths, Blancmange, Violent Femmes, Lloyd Cole, Soft Cell, Missing Persons, and Roxy Music? Those bands probably ring a huge bell with you I bet...lol. When KJET played them, they were relatively unknown here in Seattle.

  Revisiting this is like a blast from the past Susan, and you started it when you mention that radio station. A flood of memories occurred 

 

Here is another local music trivia tidbit from the day. "The Rocket" a free paper, that chronicled the NW "alt rock" music scene back when. Back before the Internet this was how you found artistic "want ads", and bands seeking players. It was always cool to get your band mentioned in "The Rocket"  it featured club listings, who was playing where, and when, great art and graphics.....

@Susan R got me in this NW alt rock vibe, so today I'm listening to the "Crazy 8's" a band from Oregon that played in Seattle a lot back when. I heard this on KJET 

 

"Nervous in Suburbia" (1985)

 

My sweetie and I first saw this band back in '87 at the UW, they featured a big horn section, and poly ska rhythms....

 

They played Bumbershoot '89

So the independent movie theater I go to is closed but they started to offer movies to watch at home.

 You have 30 days to watch from date of purchase and 72 hours to finish.  I watched "Once were Brothers" the film about Robbie Robertson and The Band by Martin Scorsese.  I enjoyed it so much despite being on the small screen.  You might check out local theaters where you are to see if they are doing the same.

@Jani - That sounds like a good idea, as the movie theater business is really hurting now, I heard rumor that AMC was not going to survive this downturn.

I think there are a lot of businesses that won't make it.  I head that Barnes & Noble would be lucky to survive.  I assume their finances aren't so sound now.  On a related note, I ordered take out from a local restaurant last night, baked haddock with grilled asparagus, and bread pudding.  They even threw in a roll of TP!

@Jani - that's sounds like a great take out meal Jani, and you helped a local eatery. The idea of handing out rolls of TP, to take out customers, has caught on, capitalism at it's best 

 

I'm revisiting this yet again this morning, since you brought them up, it's just got this certain soulful vibe, and the stellar slow groove....

The Band - Chest Fever (1968)

Thats the cover painted by Dylan if I recall.   I thought the sitar player was an interesting addition as the Band didn't feature it although George Harrison, a friend of Bob did.  The stand up bass has an almost human quality with its arms sprouting out and upward.  Sort of snowman-like.  The Bridge is shaped like a smile!  Lots of symbolism there. 

 

The hallucinogenic vibe is added to by the accompanying voices that are just off time from Levon's voice.  Such a neat song with so much to explore and wonder about.  Thanks for posting it.
