I was shocked to sleep in until 0900 today.  My husband is usually up around 0400, my GF gets up around the same time, and everyone else a couple hours later.  Imagine my surprise when I woke up naturally with no alarm, cuddled up with my husband.  🥰. I think he was really tired, since this only happens on holidays.

Good Afternoon

The part-time job of my choice came through. I have completed all the paperwork.  I never expected to have to do this.  But the first house down here killed any chance of a nice retirement.  Hopefully I can fix that.

@April Marie I’m sorry you had a breakdown.  I suspect we’ve all been through something similar.  I know I have.  Funny about your wet strangled rat.  At least after it dried and with a little work you should have been able to revive it.

Good morning coffee in hand.  Yes my clock reset last night.  Yes my alarm went off so I could get to church on time.  Yes I want to sleep another hour.  Whose crummy idea is it that we keep doing this? We use tiny little light emitting diodes that put out lots of light with very little electricity expended.  Farmers don’t care, they get up with the sun anyway and factories don’t care either,  they keep upgrading lighting to cut costs, and don’t have windows to let in natural light anymore.

Good morning everyone,:coffee:

If you didn't set your clocks forward last night, you're late for this mornings appointments. It's the weekend so hopefully you're sleeping in was okay.

I was up by 6:45 because my aging body doesn't want to sleep past 7 hours of sleep. Getting up before the Sun, has one reward for me. I can open the window blinds before any birds are at the bird feeders, brew my coffee, and watch as the Cardinals arrive, followed by the Juncos, then sparrows. We had a light snow, and I can see where a rabbit has been cleaning up the spilled bird seeds around the base of the feeder stands. The Mourning doves have arrived and cooing away.

Hugs,

The flock of Dove are mostly on the ground feeding on spilled seeds from the bird feeders. The one making most of the calls is in a tree.

That sounds a lot like our morning routine.  We deliberately didn't change the clocks last night.  We'd rather lose an hour of awake time than an hour of sleep.  Got up at 6:45 also, but old time.  Ran around the house changing all the clocks.  Then sat down with our coffee.  French press for my wife and espresso for me.  You have the same birds at your feeder as we do.  Sparrows, juncos, chickadees, mourning doves.  One, count him: one, cardinal.  Blue jays, crows.  Not too many bunnies, but a few brainless squirrels.

Well said. There's really no need for DST anymore, but it is an excuse to drink more coffee🤭...

Origin of the Phrase Birds of Feather Flock Together

You can trace the origin of the phrase back to the 16th century when it was used in a poem by William Turner in 1545 as “Byrdes of on kynde and color flok and flye allwayes together.”

The picture appears to be a flock of Blackbirds, but there are several different species: Redwing, Common Grackle, European Starlings, and Robins.

This brings back many good memories of my late father. He was an avid bird watcher, and we spent many hours together watching birds at the lake. His favorite was the red tailed hawk, but he love songbirds. Thank you, Mindy for sharing this photo.

I fill my bird feeders in the morning too.  I also scatter sunflower seed on the ground for those that prefer it that way.  Of course the squirrels take a cut of those.  This morning there are a whole lot of cardinals.  The males constantly arguing over whose space it is whilst the females mostly just stuff themselves.  We get a lot of doves as well.  It's Kinda hard for them to use the feeders.

The smaller guys work the ground too, but they swarm the feeder once the ground is clear.  I hang suet as well and get woodpeckers on it.

I'll need to start filling the hummingbird feeder, but will probably wait till this next cold snap passes although maybe the sugar water wouldn't freeze?

Good Sunday morning to everyone. or should I say Saturday. Sorry, I haven't been writing for the last couple days. My emotions have been going ramped. Friday found out that my mom was in the hospital. Her levels were all out of wack. She hasn't been eating. She can barely keep anything down. Found out she as Afib. The Drs are trying to figure why she can't eat. So I am worried about mom. I have broken down a couple times.  I am just worried, She is 87.

Yesterday got some work done on the tweeter pods for the bike. Today, more work in the garage. On something, LOL

Coffee brewing. Actually slept in this morning. Had to make up for the hour lost. Wife is in Lincoln, visiting the oldest and family.

Hugs, to all.

Bird feeders.... Ha!  That would be "cat feeders" at my house.  Haven't seen a bird in our orchard literally in years.  😆  Occasionally I find puffs of brightly colored feathers on the ground, but that's about it.  It was funny a few days ago, we finished planting some new trees, and every young tree had at least one cat climbing in it already.  On the bright side, we don't have vermin.  No squirrels, rats, mice...even the crickets and the grasshoppers disappear.

Good evening, or is it.

@Mmindy love the size of your Bucket-O-Brew.

@KymmieL sorry to hear about your mother.

As for me, we celebrated our granddaughter’s last birthday together 8 years ago.  Happy 15th birthday today.  We miss you so much, but know you are in a better place without pain.  I think about you every day.

met with my new boss today.  Finished up the paperwork, got my training materials.  My fist class is tomorrow.  And my first scheduled work day is Thursday.

I know, I know . . . I should be watching the Oscars, but bonfires of vanities, you know. You know?

I heartily agree.  And with the large number of different organizations that give awards, IDK why it is such a big deal.  Seems like just about everybody gets one or at least gets a nomination.  Like an Oprah show, just look under your chair.

Drag is a threat to nobody.
After the directors of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won the Oscar for best director, they spoke about dressing in drag as a kid “which is a threat to nobody” in reference to a rise in anti-drag sentiment in recent months.

Interesting but not surprising at all. I think if things keep going in the direction they’re headed, we’re likely going to see a lot more of this. Let’s hope it doesn’t ever escalate to something violent.

Good morning

I was startled awake at 3:15 this morning.  The upstairs neighbors were stomping around and yelling at each other. I debated for 15 minutes about what to do but finally called 911.  The police showed up and things have been quiet since then.  The stomping is not unusual but the yelling at each other was a first.  At least they aren’t here very often.  In fact there are only about half of us that are full time residents in this building.

I got my employeeid this morning.  Now I have to remember a 6 digit number that has no rhyme or reason to it.  I can’t even store it in my password vault as sometimes you have to add a zero to the beginning and sometimes you have to add the company initials to the end.  Could they make it anymore confusing?

anyway, I now have two 2hr training sessions to complete before I can go to work.  One is tobacco and alcohol related and the other food related.  Violation of either gets you fired on the spot.

what ever happened to the good old days?

Massachusetts is having a pro transgender protest next Saturday in Boston.  I hope it catches on but there are lots of places I don’t think it would be a good idea.  The counter protests could be quite detrimental to our health.

That reminds me of my days working for DoD.  We had to change our password every 120 days. It had to be 12-24 characters, include a capital letter, a lower case letter, a number and one of the following symbols: !, @, $, #, or %, AND it could not be the same as one used in the last 18 months. As if this wasn't enough, we weren't supposed to write it down. We did anyway; it was the only way to keep track.

I feel your pain on this, Willow.

That's why outside farm cats are so important. As for the crickets, and grasshopper not being around... Do you let your orchard grass grow, or do you keep it mowed? Are you using organic fertilizers or spraying pesticides? That will keep the bugs away as well.  Sparrow Hawks are good at keeping grasshoppers to a minimum too.

Suzie and I love the entertainment the Squirrels bring to the feeders. We put out peanuts, ear corn, and some seeds for them. The feeders we want to keep for just the birds, we us spicy seeds.

@KymmieLI'm sorry to hear about your mom, and have her in my prayers.

@Willow I did drink two pots of coffee yesterday, in the shop.:coffee:

Hugs,

I'm sorry @Ladypcnj I can only sympathize with you on that. Therapist on the other hand is crazy. I have had 16 in 10 years. It sucks having to have to go over things. I will say though after 6 therapists I didn't have to explain my history they simply read the history.

I followed you and will give you my advice when I can. It has happened to me a lot too. If you want to you can always message me and I'll get back to you ASAP. I understand your concerns.

I don't use it.   One of my daughters gave me a little to experiment with, but I haven't.  My youngest tried to put some on me once, but I din't like it.  The light was pretty bad admittedly. My ex didn't use it, and my daughters didn't use it much either when they were still at home.  (If so it was very subtle) And I don't often notice it on women my age (mid 70's)   I shave every day.  But my beard is not heavy, and essentially grey, so it's not real noticeable unless you get close with good light.  I was starting to look into electrolysis, but the pandemic hit, and I just kinda dropped it.   Sometimes I do wonder about it though.

It's something I'm just learning but I find I actually enjoy the 'craft' of it in addition to how it makes me look. Even after a fresh shave, I have a mild 5'clock shadow. For me, the primary use of makeup is to get rid of that. I'll start with the orange concealer over facial hair areas and a bit under my eyes. Liquid foundation over that and light concealer used judiciously over that (still dialing that part in). Then just a tad of powder to bring color back in certain places. There are a number of Youtube tutorials on that layering process.    I'll also pencil in my eyebrows a bit since they're blonde and otherwise not very visible. Sometimes I'll get adventurous and give mascara a try but that's a delicate skill and usually I mess it up. I don't particularly like lipstick, but just ordered a 'lip pencil' to experiment with. Hoping for a more subtle effect.

Sunday is my weekly ablution day - all of the parts that need occasional shaving get their required attention. The weather is rainy and cool today so after the ablutions and shower, I put on blue jeans, a gray t-shirt and a black front-zip hoodie along with gray sneakers.   And, I did put on make-up, not to impress anyone but just to feel as if I'm looking my best....as good as that can be given this woman is now 69 years old.

There are lots of us here willing to offer support, ideas, a shoulder or just a smile. Working with your therapist and finding your true self can be difficult process...but it will also be filled with wonder and joy as you discover that person who's been waiting inside you to be found.   Just know that you are not alone.

Thank you KayC!  I am just trying to keep breathing. I don't have a huge amount of time in my life for self exploration.  My job and responsibilities have me second guessing all my inner work.  I do have time off in the summer - coming up soon as I am a teacher.  Only a few workshops.  Looking forward ward to some introspection.     :) Mealaini

Yes, essentially. As Julia Serano says, they view trans outcomes as intrinsically worse than cis outcomes.

I used to but now its just lip gloss every now and then, in a subdued tone.

Yeah, a lot of times I don't really have anything to add to the conversation. There are some threads I seldom post on.
    • Ivy
I have seen some things about this.  As I remember it was not very trans-friendly. The people doing these things seem to minimize the positive aspects of transition, and maximize the potential problems. Basically, make it as difficult as possible (without outright banning it) to discourage anyone from doing it.
