This month I want to go to the LGBT Assembly on campus. I think I'll introduce myself as my male nickname, but I'm unsure what to say I am, because even though I know I'm an androgyne, I don't know how exactly I want to be perceived for the rest of my life... like what marker I want on my driver's license... but I'm tempted to just say I'm male, because I think I would prefer that than to be perceived female (though the campus's lack of gender neutral bathrooms, including where the assembly will be held, isn't cool). Or at the very least, I could see how that goes, since I'm used to hanging around all my friends that perceive me female, and it'd be nice to be perceived... not female.

Maybe if I'm lucky they just won't ask. At least, not directly. I don't know. It's just, I have a chance to introduce myself to people without the influence of any previous friends or family, so it's like a fresh start, but I don't know how to start. Kind of nervous about it all.

I'd really like to actually talk to some people, maybe get involved with LGBTQIAP events... instead of just... wandering around in the background like I tend to do in new and unfamiliar situations... =(

^_^ Sounds like the perfect opportunity to find out a little more about yourself. If you identify to them as androgyne, the door's still open to identify as male, if that would make you more comfortable. Either way, I hope you find where and how you're comfortable with other people.

JJ, you were overdue for a day like that. Hope they continue!

Am anxious about meeting a new doctor today and asking about HRT. Would at least like to get started on Spiro as my BP is still up, even with the med I have been taking.

Huggs all!

Thank you Micha! No Spiro yet, my BP decided to be fairly close to normal today. Did find a pretty sympathetic doctor today, but that is as about as far as it went.

Next week I may know more. Breathe in, breathe out, relax....

Just wanted to say Hi to everybody. It feels funny when I'm away even for a morning!

Dee Jay-I just bought probably 7 or 8 dozen huge mature moss rose plants for around my pond for $1.00 total and a couple of mature coxcombs for 1/2 that-I love bargains. They will be perfect for around the koi ponds!

I also got my first pairs of boxers!:D I'm inching down that road.

Please do come help me plant!!

I looked at the size on the boxers wrong but they're the plaid kind and are apparently in style for girls as shorts-so my daughter is thrilled and wearing them w/ a long t-shirt as I type.

But I also found some bargain men's t-shirts and polos -and a pair of unisex Dr martins so I'm still a happy camper:D

not to mention we hit the farmer's market and will have fried green tomatoes and some baked okra for supper. A man there was so charmed by my granddaughter he insisted on giving her a watermelon! Wouldn't let us pay for it. That kind of thing used to happen all the time-in stores, restaurants, etc. but hasn't as much the past year or so. She has this charisma-kind of scary in a way.

And I had a half a big old honeydew melon for lunch.

Life is good today!!

Love you too!

Watch out for those thorns on those rose bushes!

Huggs and Hugs,

Opal

The thing about moss roses is there aren't any thorns and they like heat and don't have to be watered!

They're usually $5-$7 a plant here and I got probably 80 or more for $1. A once in a lifetime plant bargain I just stumbled onto where someone had just brought them in to the hospital auxiliary.

Not where I got the boxers-but they did have the new Dr Martins and tons of clothes just in for the whole family.

Some days just work and make up for the others when you want to turn off the phone and hide under the bed

I'm tired of being the good guy.

The guy people think is respectable and a good person.

Because I'm tired.

And I'm feeling short tempered and angry.

Nobody is ever really "the good guy" that way.

It's too big a burden to carry. You have the right to be angry, to make mistakes -to be human.

I believe from what I have seen here you have a wealth of wonderful qualities and are a very decent-and yes intrinsically good person-but I know because you are human you also have flaws and faults and are entitled to them.

You have the right to express that anger-short of harming someone else or yourself. In fact it's more than a right-it's an imperative because unexpressed anger will get you eventually and harm you.

So snap at a few people who will understand when you're sorry later and get some rest if you can The world is certainly a much darker place when you are tired.

Uh, ok, so i went out a limb and asked my long time best friend to be my girl just now.

Long story short, we kinda had somethin a couple years ago, i had to move. been kinda ehhh... since.

She wont come straight out and tell me if she wants it to go any father than what it is, although i feel like we both know there is more to it.

I made the mistake of hurting her one time too many (which was the 1st time), and i think she is just scared to put down those walls and give it a shot.

Idk what came over me just now. but i told her give me a straight answer tonight and i wont ask no more.

so wish me luck.

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
