How Did You Choose Your Female Name?

Guest Kayliegh

I choose Kayleigh, because it's an Irish name andmy heritage is Irish.

I always used Steph (Male name Steven), until I started seeing a GT and then thought I should use a name that I think fit's me!

BTW - "Kayleigh" means "celebration" in Gaelic - (at least that's what I've read.)

Think of a name that you feel best fits you and you'll be fine!

Kayleigh

I go by Kacee, it's from my initials: Kristina Alexsandria Caitlynne Elisabeth Elliston. The Kristina comes from when I was around 4-5, I remeber telling my mom that I wanted that name. Alexsandria is the name I would have given my daughter, if I'd had one. Caitlynne is in honor of a very dear friend who died a few years ago from cancer. Elisabeth is in honor of my wife, it was her middle name. Elliston, just 'cuz I like it!! LOL

Love

I'm still deciding on a name for myself, the two requirements are.

1. It has to be of Irish sound or Origin

2. It has to have found some popularity in between the years of 1990-1995 (I don't want to stand out too much)

The names I've found are Elaine (Or Elaina as a variant) Alyssa, or Colette.

Do anyone else have ideas?

Given to my by my parents at birth. Ashley was my middle name. :) I just kept it to try and honor them as much as I could. My middle name, Renee, is also my wifes middle name. I took it because when we were married, she took my last name and I took her middle name when I changed my name to sorta honor her.

I have thought about this over the years (I'm 50, and never married). I've used Sabine here as it was what I am "used to", but I hadn't settled on it. I think I want to involve my mother in choosing it, if only as I am her closest child and I am still uncertain how she will react to the news. I want her to feel she is gaining the daughter she wanted, not losing a son. I have looked at family names -- just as if I was naming a child -- and have some specific ones I'd like.

Oddly, my mom talks to me about clothes, cooking, and everything, and always has. I've even shopped with her before (unfortunately, for HER, not me, and are tastes are generational, though classic. I also have a better design and fashion sense than she does, as it turns out). I think, in a way, I am already a daughter-substitute. All that also makes me want her to play a part in how I decide.

I looked through countless baby names on the internet and made a list of the ones that struck me as something I might like to call myself. ONE of the names hit me hard... Belle, of course... but at first I didn't think it sounded "normal" enough. Eventually, I decided my name would be Anabelle and my friends could call me Belle, but now I think I just want my name to be Belle.

...then again, Anabelle IS pretty!

My Original name was quite unique but fortunatly I found feminine versions of it The one I'm going to change it to is derived from the Name Renee and I changed the letters around to form Renne (Pronounced like Len or the first part of the latin word for wind: Ventus)

My parents decided before I was born that if I was a boy I'd be Lewis Charles and if I was a girl I'd be Charlotte Louise, so Charlotte Louise it is. :)

The day I found out what I was on the inside, I became calm, and peaceful. It was at that moment that Rachael Elizabeth Evans, came out as clear as a bell. I now go by Ree to my friends. Whenever someone calls my name it fills me with peace and contentment.

The amazing thing was when I came out to my mom, the next day she called me and asked if my name was Rachael. WOW! She said she just knew.

Well for me I decided to try and keep the same initials as my given name from my parents. I also picked Alexandra because it the family name on my mothers side of the family for girls. Harper is a name I just always loved.

With my name I was looking for something with meaning and with a Scottish background. So after chatting with my BFF about names for like MONTHS I hit Alison because of its meaning, "truth" or "noble". Truth because This is the true me, and its also was first recorded from Scotland.

I have always loved the name Sarah so that was an easy one for me. The middle name is always harder to come up with. I thought of many different names but Michelle goes really well with Sarah so that is how I picked my middle name.

Actually, I just kept trying names I could hear without cringing. Eventually, someone threw Bailey at me, and I ran with it. It was like finally hearing the right thing. I went ahead and tried some middle names for what sounded to work with the syllables, and stuck with Anne. It just seemed to work.

Well, after a looooong string of different names I've pondered (even legally changing to one during my first attempt at transition, won't go into that) I finally settled on and legally changed to Kairi Elise ***** (kelise). I didn't want a common name, because I didn't want anyone I knew to think I named myself after them, which might have been viewed as rather creepy. Most people think I got the first name from the popular video game character in Kingdom Hearts, and while I have played that game, I had the name first! (so there :P )

The story I tell people is that I (or my parents, depending if I'm out to them or not) derived the name from the term Kyrie Eleison (sp?) which is a religeous term that I've read to mean, "Lord, watch over me on my journey" (which I thought fit very well to my situation, even though I'm not religeous AT ALL)

The real story (don't tell anybody) is that I heard it in a Mr. Mister song of the same name, thought it was pretty, and swiped it, giving it my own spelling. I wasn't till much later that I actually looked up what the lyric actually was and what it meant. When I did i was like, "COOL!" lol.

I'm not sure if Jessica will be my final name, but I know I've liked it for years. I'm also partial to Jennifer :D

Both can be shortened down to four-letter names (Jess and Jenn), just like my birth name. I dunno why I like em.

Just out of curiosity,

How did everyone find their feminine name?

I haven't solidified anything yet, but I'm thinking of Maude. I think it's a cute name (as I think with most old ladies names) and the only Maude I ever "knew" is from Harold and Maude (movie) - and I love her character!

Dr M

Well when I changed my name initially a few years ago it was more of just on a whim. I changed my again because I wasn't happy with that first name. So with this name I met this girl at my psych's office and I really loved her name. So I took that first name and paired it will a different last name that I've been in love with.

My name is based on my old male name and it's very similar. At first I thought of just changing my old name a little, but I decided to spell it differently as well and I like the result a lot more. It has kind of grown on me. I don't want to post either of them here though, for privacy reasons. Riana is a 'stage name' if you will, and I'd like to keep it that way.

i chose the name Claire because of a woman who I used to work with. Her name was Clare, she carried herself as a proper lady , always dressed sharply, a constant smile on her face, I was so envious of her, she once made a comment to me at work, she said she couldn't imagine"wanting to be a man"little did she know, she also once said that I should have been a woman because I enjoyed conversation so much, which is the truth, again little did she know. so Clare who has since passed on is the reason I chose the french version of her name, so when the time ever comes to change my name legally it will be to Claire Marie.

I'm honestly still considering changing my name. For now Ariel is fine. Sebastian was the name I got from my parents. Ariel was my favorite Disney princess despite being made fun of as "Sebastian the crab" for a good portion of my childhood.

I don't feel the name suits me though.

This is something I have been struggling with for months...

My grandfather and father both have the first name Dale. I was given that name too... my father and I both have nicknames, to help distinguish one Dale from the other.

There are tons of beautiful names out there for women... and I can't find a single one that fits me just right. It's like shopping for a new pair of shoes, they're all too tight, too frilly, too girly... I can't find a single name that fits me just right.

Because of this, I am considering just continuing to use my given name as it's fairly Androgynous, and just changing my nick name. But even then... I can't find one that fits... All my life growing up, I despised my name. I hated saying it. Introducing myself was hell and painful because I hated my name. But now I can't find anything else that fits me better.

I keep convincing myself to keep waiting until I am ready to go Full time, maybe when I look more feminine I'll look in the mirror and be able to put a name to the face but I'd like to come up with something sooner rather than later.

*sighs*

Hey, so...how I picked my name, well, i was going through fads where one name was way better than any other, but as soon as i said it out loud it was like, ''no way''. Anyway, I eventually settled on Jennifer Anastasous Mayfair. The Jennifer is from a hero of mine. Anastasous is latin for ''re-birth'', or ''re-born'' And Mayfair, i actually got that from a book series I read about a family of witches living in new orleans, anyway, ive read a lot about the druidic, and magical history of transsexuals in almost every culture, and well, a witchy name seemed good. when i actually said it out loud I know i had my name for sure. Ive gone by it since then. Besides, i think it has a neat ring to it, and Jenn Mayfair seems like a passable name as well.

Y'all be holding pencils like left handed people but I just hold my pens/pencils in ways that make people go "what the actual [squid]"

Hi Ivy, I can relate to that holding my pencil in my left hand although I'm right-handed.

So I am two months into E therapy as of this week. What can I say? I am now a busty blond supermodel who doesn't look a day over 25. This stuff is amazing!   OK, so I exaggerate, lol ... Seriously, the effects have been subtle so far. I would say very slight "plumping" in the chest region. More pronounced feelings at times (especially anger, which I don't necessarily like). The downstairs feels ... different...  I can tell something is going on to affect that region. Things come and go. I do feel overall ... different. Still dealing with fatigue though not as much as last week...   Back story: I had treatment for head and neck cancer 20 years ago. One surgery removed a tumor in my lymph nodes. They took out a whole bunch of stuff from my neck that was anywhere close to the tumor, including part of my shoulder muscle on the left side. Since then, my shoulders are lopsided and things (i.e. my chest) tend to sag on that side. I have long joked that I had a "uni-boob". Well, maybe the other side is going to catch up a little? Right now, I wouldn't pass for female upstairs except for the uni-boob (and the fact that I keep everything shaved).    I nearly quit HRT last week. I have been pretty discouraged overall with my life, career, relationships, direction. I feel pretty rudderless at times, and nothing seems to be going anywhere. For a day, I just felt like HRT was going to add to the misery: who is going to want a "man with boobs" (I still really crave the affections of a female, which is why a lot of this is very confusing). But those feelings seemed to have passed or at least are on simmer... For now I will keep going.    I just don't think I can ever give up wanting to dress female or desiring to have a more feminine body shape. Where that leads, who the heck knows... What a strange life this is turning out to be ...

I've been feeling for decades about how completely awful the bathroom situation is in America.  We have these portable restrooms all over the place in the cities with people coming to empty them but there is a sewer right underneath them.  When I lived on the streets, at night if I had to go, I often walked 12 blocks to a portable restroom only to find that it is locked and then I would scour the city for a 20oz coke bottle to pee in.  It was sad when society had to fight stupid people making restrooms in parks unsafe.  It seems like things were better in the 70's.
    • Lydia_R
Totally.   Coffee is too expensive this morning, but last month I hunted down some nice ginger and had that stored well in the meat drawer of my fridge that I don't use for meat.  Made a nice pot of ginger tea and played piano while it was boiling.   D-7  Bbmaj7  G-7  Bbmaj7  A7#9  repeat the cycle   Cmaj  Emin  Amin G  F  C/E (or is it E-?)  D (lydian!)  G   Fun stuff.  The Navy had me playing Jamiroquai's High Times on bass around South America.  Fun bass line on a 5 string bass!  I played it for the first time in 25 years the other day.  Sure was fun!  Not too into the lyrics.  Jay Kay is wonderfully melodic though.   Put on Allentown, sitting at my computer.  Someone has to do this work.  I can't really afford it, but I need a battery for my watch with hands.  I'm likely going to ride the bus there because I'm working on healing my feet.  I hate the bus, but this guy at that store can replace the battery in 20 seconds.  I'm lost without my watch.  My stupid clock in the kitchen went on "power saver" mode and the clock goes to sleep.  Not a good way to cook.  I use my watch for all kinds of things though.  I've got my old men's Timex on the ear of the stained glass owl in the entry.  It has a dead bat too.

I wonder about this sometimes.  If it were so, they would be in their 50's by now. It's not impossible.   Guess I'm a girl with a past.

Funny thing.  When I went to school I was writing with my right hand (I'm right handed) but holding the pencil like a left handed person.  They made me change that, and to be sure it was better for me.  Of course my handwriting is still barely legible.  It's just a curious thing. I'm a kinda mixed up person.

Bathroom usage law based on chromosomes is quite irrational. Just within the intersex community there are quite a few problems with it with those that have full or partial androgen insensitivity. For instance, I have XY chromosomes but also have a uterus and fallopian tubes. My breasts are real and I have had them since puberty. I was also born without a penis to speak of, but I do have testes.    I don't look like the average guy, and much less now that I don't hide my DDD's behind baggy layered clothes.    Physically I am much more female than male, but my birth certificate and chromosomes say something else.    I most definitely don't fit in the men's room. Last time I tried everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at me until I left. I have used the family restroom in public ever since (all gender). The Texas law basically leaves only one choice for intersex individuals. Family restroom or pee your pants. 🙄

I had a similar experience.  My father, doing geneological research, googled the name of the tiny hamlet in Scotland where his family came from.  He was surprised to find a request from someone in Australia wanting to find his birth mother.  The mother was named as my father's sister, from that same tiny hamlet.  There was no possibility of mistaken identity: there could not be two people of that name in such a small place.   The family knew that my aunt had had a child out of wedlock, but no one had kept track of the child.  And of course, the times being what they were, knowledge of the event was kept on a need-to-know basis.    My father contacted the person in Australia.  He gained a nephew and I gained a cousin that I never knew I had.  We kept in touch until my cousin passed away a few years ago.  I am still in occasional contact with his widow.

I can relate to that, I started my oral estrogen back in 2017.. less than 6 months I was wearing jeans size 40, then afterward my hips started to curve so I can fit a jeans size 12 or 14.. my treating doctors suggested for me to take before and after pictures and show it to them during my next doctor's appointment.
