How Did You Choose Your Female Name?

I chose my name very weirdly. My first name my wife chose (Laura). The middle names were a combination of things. First middle was my foster moms idea and creation (Corky). I was a very effeminant child and wouldn't/refused to go by my given name (Raymond). The second middle name was chosen in honor and memory of my foster mom (Elizabeth) and the last name was chosen for the longest foster home I spent time in. Names come to you and are a piece of who you are. They often are given by those who love us, but most often it is what YOU like and feel comfortable with. I wish you well in the search for a new name.

Just out of curiosity,

How did everyone find their feminine name?

I haven't solidified anything yet, but I'm thinking of Maude. I think it's a cute name (as I think with most old ladies names) and the only Maude I ever "knew" is from Harold and Maude (movie) - and I love her character!

Dr M

I chose my name because, well I've always liked the name, and the spelling is a homage to my male name, it's slept abnormally too.

GREAT response. My Elizabeth is a family name - and the Anne? From my deceased wife, my deceased grandmother and also is the middle name for my sister and first born daughter. Names do carry a lot of energy - and your particular story shows that yours carries a lot of history also.

My wife would have picked a name? donno

I always loved the name Emily, just a very feminine name and think it fits me as a Woman.

I knew my birth name should have been Michelle, since I was five years old.

But I didn't want my first name to be that,it would have to be my middle name.

I searched for a lifetime, trying on many many, trying to find the one that said,

This Is Who I Am.It wasn't until after I cameout to my then wife, that I found

the name that fit me like it was my birth name.We were watching a horror movie.

When I heard the name of one of the lead characters,I knew it was going to be my

name forever.I had jumped up,shouting,"That's It!That's It!That is my name!"

Scared the bejeezus out of my wife in the process too.LOL

My full name is Angelique, but I am an Angie,She Is Me.In every way.

It has been six years since I chose my true name.Six years of acclimating

everyone to who I am and what name I go by>I would not change a thing.

Big Hugs,

Angie

I was always told by my mom that she was certain she was having a baby girl and my name would have been Kirsty, so I took this name. It's kind of ironic as everyone thought she was having a girl.

Hi Dr. Met!

I have a new development in the spelling of my name. By accident, one day, I spelled my name as bernii instead of my usual bernie. As soon as I saw the new spelling, I loved it!!

FYI, I sign my emails at work as bernii too now. No one has said anything yet, but I am waiting for that day!!

I know it is coming soon.

LOL

I have used my real name since I chose it.Even insisting that I be gendered and treated like

the woman I am.By the time I left(of my own free will) I had thirty women and men gendering

me right, even being friendly. Not all employers are so understanding. On my next contract,as long

as I hadn't done the official name change, they could fool themselves that I was(normal)LOL.

Two weeks after name change, when I had to show my new DL,I was let go that Friday on some trumped up BS.It will be hard to get a new job,but this time I get to be hired and work as a woman

legally.The man is no more.

My family has Welsh ancestry, and I always liked the look and sound of a lot of Welsh names. My birth first name is usually a boy's name, but not always, and I thought it would be fun to have a little symmetry there. Ceri is usually a girl's name, but not always; it means just "to love" in Welsh, and since I'm a hopeless romantic, it seemed to fit me.

I've ALWAYS hated my birth name. It was the most common name in America for more than a decade and has been in the top 5 for the past 30 years. My last name; also common. My middle names; both common and male. My name pretty much consisted of:

Most common male first name - Semi-common male middle name - Common male middle name - Common last name

I cannot stress how much I hated that name... And it's still legally mine until I'm 18. And my relatives still call me it.

Reasons I hated it were:

1) It's a boy's name. Like omg... Nty X_X

2) Bible character. I'm atheist, and my mother just loved stressing that she got it out of the bible.

3) So freaking common. Every day I hear it called out for someone else at least three times. That's right; I see people with my guy name a minimum of three times daily. Whenever I joined a club or any sort of group, there were people with my name there just because it's that common. I'd be BoyNameHere #4 or something ridiculous like that.

4) IT'S A BOY NAME

I'd been looking for a new name long before I realized I was transgender. Without thinking about it, I generally looked at names that carried neither masculine nor feminine connotations. All the while, I'd been using an online alias of "Eth" but never really considered it to be Real Name material. I even looked at stuff in latin, just because I figured NOBODY would have a name like mine if I did that. Then one day I smacked myself and went "you know what? all my friends call me Eth.. I like Eth... I think I'm gonna go with that."

And that's how I figured out my name.

I figured out a middle and last name too, starting with T and H, so that my initials would also spell out ETH, but I'm not sure I'm sticking with that. I like Eth and the last name I've picked out, but the middle name was chosen to be dedicated to someone important to me, who died a long time ago. Their name doesn't start with T, though, so I had to get the T by searching their name, finding it's meaning, looking through those, and seeing if there were any T names holding the same or a similar meaning until I found one that was feminine. I went with that.

It seems like a pretty indirect way of being dedicated to that person though, so part of me wonders if I should just not care about the ETH initials and scrap the T name and just use the real name of the person I'm dedicating my middle name to. It'd come out as Eth with the initials EJH, but eh. I'm not sure yet.

You know what? I think I'm gonna poke my boyfriend to help me make the decision. He'll just love me for that.

-ETH

I always loved the name Carolyn - don't know why, I guess it just sounded feminine and it started with the letter "C" which is the same as my given name. Marie was my grandmother's name, so that was kinda obvious.

I take particular interest in names and online aliases so for me it was a fairly big deal and a bit of a challenge, because I like names that you don't hear often, but still feel good inside. I am very fortunate that it was available in pure form (without initials or surnames preceeding or succeeding) - means it's at least somewhat unique ;-)

It actually was from a TV show I used to watch when I was really young called 'Babar'. I have a crush on the eldest daughter (even though they were Elephants) who I saw as being a similar age to me at the time (about 5). Whenever her mother would call her name my heart took a strange skip, which at the time felt good but didnt realise till recently what that sensation was akin to.

I was browsing websites like allbabygirlnames.com and stumbled across a long list girl names of Latin origin. And as I was browsing through, I came across it, and as soon as I read it, I immediately remembered the TV show and the names of about half the charactes. I tried that right away (as I was in the middle of creating this account) and what luck! My girls name was available!

<3 Flora

PS. It's Latin for flower (Just in case)

Catherine was the name I was supposed to have until I was born male to everyone's surprise. It's a really common name for people my age and has always sounded nice to me.

I'm not sure how I arrived at Ashley--it shares the same first initial as my given name, so I guess it just sounded natural. I think it's a great name for girls or guys, plus people can call me Ash for short ;). Not sure why, but I just love that.

I had a really ahem dumb and slutty sounding female name at first (don't ask), but when I told my pseudo mom, we sat down and she came up with something that seemed a lot more fitting for me. Plus I like it better and it sounds less cliche. Pretty much same thing as sakura, except not my bio mom (bio mom hates what I am)

I used Joanna when I cross dressed but like the name so much that when I do my name change it will be Joanna Marie.

The name of Kristal chose me cause, while it is close to my male name and would be easier on my family but at the same time it would be different enough to suit me.

I'm thinking of either Dysis or Dylana for a name, and I chose those from a story I'm thinking of with the protagonist named Dysiris, and I've also always liked the combination of the letters "d" and "y" together.

I had an inspiring weekend. Our vet detected a large splenic mass in our beautiful husky Saturday morning requiring immediate emergency surgery. We transferred her to the hospital our excellent vet recommended where she had a successful, uncomplicated surgery to remove the spleen and mass, and stayed over one night without any post-op complications. We were able to bring her home last night and she's so happy and content. So now I'm focused on nursing her through her recovery. Throughout this episode, after an initial brief feeling of panic, I found my mind calm, focused, and optimistic throughout. I spent time meditating and being with my girl in spirit while she was still in the hospital. She is so brave and strong and good. I thank God for the mental stability I've developed through grace which was tested this weekend, for the superb healthcare providers we are blessed with, for the means to be able to afford healthcare, and for the life of this amazing girl who is the embodiment of sweetness, determination, and endurance. All so very inspiring. We await the pathology report, but I have not been dwelling on that. Just so blessed to be together with this girl.

So, it's treating this specific "condition" that is forbidden.   Sometimes it's hard to believe how much they hate us.

"Sunak and the Conservatives have used the row over gender and trans rights as a key plank of their election strategy against Labour and Keir Starmer."   Just like our GOP   "The change would allow political parties to restrict trans women with a GRC from benefiting from “women-only” shortlists and other measures aimed at increasing female participation."   Guess that GRC won't mean much.

I had a difficult weekend. I was upset to hear that the NHS had outlawed puberty blockers and spent much of Saturday in tears. I find the thought of trans kids suffering sooo triggering.
    • LucyF
from here (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2024/727/made) it states that it doesn't apply if:   "...(5) Condition D is that the purpose for which the private prescription was issued is a purpose other than treatment for the purpose of puberty suppression in respect of gender dysphoria, gender incongruence or a combination of both."   So the ban only applies to specifically for treatment of gender dysphoria/incongruence.

My weekend was OK, Took the wagon to the car show on Saturday. It was quite a few cars. After I just mellowed at home. Not much yesterday. Was feeling a little cruddy. After the wife got home, we took a drive to Centennial for ice cream. Then took the long way home. Went up and over the Snowy range and  back around to the interstate and home. all the while the left side of my face was building pressure, sinus infection. But got home it must have went its course because it subsided.   Decided to put in for the store manage position at our local Sportsmans Warehouse. It was late yesterday evening so nothing yet.   Hugs, Kymmie
    • RaineOnYourParade
Are they also banning puberty blockers given to cis kids who start puberty too early?    If not, that's not even targeting a medication, that's targeting a use of a medication. It would be like saying if you had a medication perfectly capable of treating both pneumonia and bronchitis, but you're only allowed to use it on one patient or the other. The stupidity is real

Having sat on several juries one realizes how little folks beyond the courtroom know about the decisions made.  The juries conversation about the evidence as presented by the sides involved can be exhausting.  I would hesitate to question a decision especially, in this situation, when the 12 jurors are from a conservative area.    That being said some in the political world are attacking not only the basis of our democracy but now find it advantageous to attack the legal system.  No system is perfect but in my opinion ours works fairly well.     Hugs,   Charlize

Good morning    We drove about2 ½ hours to go to a different church’s service.  It was very different, but very much the same.  I went there to meet the minister that will be standing with our minister.  As soon as she saw me she treated me by names and gave me a big hug.  A lot more music and fire and brimstone, but still the same church traditions we had since I was a child.  It is a larger congregation than ours.  But still very homey and friendly..  we were welcomed by all.   Busy week! My son and DIL are coming tomorrow.  I haven’t seen them in quite a while.   but now, I have to go to work.     Willow
